I was wondering if anyone here has actually ever thought of running an MOTL vent server. Could make for an interesting atmosphere, a place to trade, a place to discuss decks strats and every tournies in everyones area's and how they turn out. Or even just random bull****ting.

As this is a suggestion forum, please use some respect when posting here. Leave the profanity at home.As for your suggestion, I wouldn't really use it. We currently have the IRC #motl channel and it gets a fair amount of traffic. We also have the #motltrade channel for trading. Why not just use those? EDIT: For those that aren't familar, vent is short for Ventrilo which is a free VoIP client. Imagine IRC only instead of typing on keyboards, you talk into your headset mic. __________________ If you see a rules violation, PM me a link and I will take care of it. Ventrilo and Teamspeak are just a few programs to use while chatting online. IRC is basic and fine enough and kids won't have to run out to get a headset and mic. If you've seen some of the crazy ways people type online what makes you think it's going to be easier to understand them of you hear them jabbering into your ear? Besides, if a random or troublesome person wanders in and decides to make a scene, I don't want to hear that crap.__________________ GøÐÐ맧D≡P≡CH≡ MOD≡ I played an American 370HSSV-0773H CRIKEY!

Trust me, Vent is: 1) Low bandwidth. Lowwwwww bandwidth. 2) Limited by how good people's microphones are. Seeing as everyone uses $5 junk, it sounds terrible. 3) Limited by server ability. Who will host the server? 4) Buggy and Laggy. Frequent drops. Sometimes you will stop hearing everyone else for 10 minutes, and then your computer will play everything everyone said in those 10 minutes, all at the same time, for the next 10 minutes. All in all, Vent is a total disaster. Take it from someone who used it to play Guild Wars. Edit: Typo. __________________ Mess with the best, die like the rest. I'm going to have to disagree with you pyr0mas5ta. I personally used Vent many, many, times back when I used to play WoW and never had such problems. I also know of no less than 20 or so co-workers/friends who regularly use the software without problems. The problems you experienced were probably related to a configuration problem or some other interal factor. Personally I think this is a great idea, and I'm shocked there is such opposition towards it. It makes communication much faster than typing. Don't get me wrong, IRC is great, but it has it's limitations, and ventrillo is a good way to circumVENT those limitations. quote: Originally posted by pyr0ma5ta: Trust me, Vent is: 1) Low bandwidth. Ok, let's say I believe you. Who's hosting the server? You? __________________ Mess with the best, die like the rest. Originally posted by Boltbait: pyr0ma5ta speaks the truth.
