Any chance of this site finally giving us the options of uploading them? It would be pretty sweet and a nice improvement, you know, with all that money from The Stack.__________________ "Who do I trust? I trust me."

It's been brought up before and they're unlikely to ever be implemented. There are issues with where they're stored. If they're just links to someone's own storage space there are the same issues in play as why only Mods are allowed to embed images. If they're stored on the server they become added bandwidth that Leshrac has to pay for. MOTL has always had a nice clean professional look, and Avatars would detract from that. There are plenty of other places for it, it's not needed here. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! I will give you that for sure, MOTL does have a very clean look to it, one of the best I've seen. But still, Magic is about creativity and imagination, would be cool to extend that onto here.I just would love to see MOTL grow so much larger. I see a lot of the same names over and notice a lot of newbies that never stick around. Anything to draw in and, more importantly, keep new members is a plus in my book. __________________ "Who do I trust? I trust me."

I fail to see how making the site uglier would keep people around. I have yet to stay for very long on any site at all that has avatars, partly because of the childish feel. Slower load times and more clutter are bad times. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! I wholeheartedly agree. MOTL's appearance is refreshing. We're so bombarded with images in the outside world that it's nice to take refuge somewhere for a little while.
Besides, you'd all be too intimidated by my beauty to tear your eyes away from the computer screen.

Agree...one of the reason why I choose motl is it's clean forums. I hate when one forum's page has millions of animated gifs and big flashy sig...it's annoying. Keep motl clean

As someone who has avatars disabled or blocked at every forum I read, I'm glad MOTL doesn't have them.__________________ Team ICBMHate advertising? Get Firefox, then pick up Flashblock and Adblock

(1) Servers aren't free and they aren't a one-time payment either. At least I know my site costs money every half year or so to maintain and it sees maybe a millionth of the traffic this does.(2) New people do join up MoTL quite often. The only thing is that they have little to no interest in sticking around General Discussion or sometimes even Magic Discussion forums. The biggest thing on this site is trading and you see a whole ton of names in the H/W list section of the forums that you never see in GD.

Gee, like server costs maybe... What possible benefit could avatars bring to the site? Last I checked, wasting bandwith wasn't a plus. Also, you aren't actually saving Leshrac any money by using the small font. In fact, you are killing kittens by doing so.

i agree with the clean look. more proffesional look than any other trading site out there. it is rather refreshing.only reason i use one on wotc is because its a custome one of a leafs logo __________________ your ubb survivor 10 champion!! That gets to be an old excuse, im sure this site pay for itself if not more with the traffic it sees. I dont think th server has ever been upgraded the copyright on the forum is 2000, I know people who do installing of phpbb/vB and they wount even touch somthign this old not to mention infopop got renamed and such. Bandwidth is generally only increased on the client side for avatars.

I'd love to see your figures for how you think MOTL pays for itself. There's no way. As has been stated, there are 2 ways of doing avatars, and the only one that stands a remote chance of getting implemented are ones stored on MOTL servers so there's control to keep people from doing very bad things with them, and that does make the bandwidth server-side. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I share the opinion of just about everybody else in this thread, they aren't needed.Avatars just add another aspect to the site that mods have to watch after. I can just see somebody sneaking a nasty little picture. It's nice that some forums offer them, but I really get annoyed having to scroll through all of the pictures or looking at those large banner sigs so many people have on sites like mtgsalvation. __________________ Get "it" nowWisconsin - smells like dairy air!

I've been hanging out on a gaming forum with signatures, avatars and youtubes embeds and I like coming back to the peacefulness of MOTL. On the other site a lot of pictures were of half naked women, because a lot of teenage boys frequent the site. Avatars of breasts etc.
