I don't do that. I have two in the sideboard, however. I think it's highly meta-dependent, though. I did some playtesting with a friend of mine for about an hour versus a blue deck and Thrun was absolutely gold when I drew the one copy. However, against almost everything else, I was really underwhelmed and last Friday, I replaced it with another Acidic Slime, which was much more valuable - it destroyed an Angelic Destiny played turn 3 against me (I took one attack, then searched for it with GSZ). If you expect lots of blue, Thrun is great, as it dodges counters and Vapor Snag. It doesn't die to burn or black removal, but against white, it doesn't look so good across from Mirran Crusader, and against green, a Titan makes Thrun look puny.

I play Green White HumansIn no way is it Tier 1, but it gives me something to play every weekend for, say the next year, and it cost roughly $20 dollars...so I'm good. I 80-20 RDW, 20-80 control (better with UW, worse with others), 60-40 Illusions, 40-60 tokens, 10-90 Wolf Run (my worse matchup - get them to under 5 life and can't seal the deal), and beat most other decks, including the occasional burning vengeance. you can tell by those above %ages that I usually go 3-2 every week. Went 2-3 twice, and 4-1 once. __________________ -Schmitty 5th in Refs [227] in OH-IO (5 behind helper monkey) 2nd in Posts [6555] in OH-IO (only 1600 behind Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Just heard from a buddy that Illusions has been big lately. I played this deck minus a Sword (ran Wurmcoil instead, never used it) in the side last Friday night and went 3-1. I lost to UW humans 1-2 in round one, then didn't drop another game to come in 3rd on tie breakers, since there were 3 3-1s. I was impressed with myself, and the deck was fun to play. I don't have a lot of time to worry about stuff like metagame and playtesting, and it showed when Angelic Destiny beat my ass, but that's ok. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

No, they will not help your specific deck beat illusions. If you want to beat Illusions with an Esper deck, have a plan to resolve Day of Judgment and use Timely Reinforcements. You also don't play enough spells to really be using all 4 Snapcaster Mages.

The red mana sources are in the deck just on the off chance I have to hard cast the Phoenix, but the real way I cast it is to dump it in the graveyard, get metal craft, then cast it for 4 colorless. Theres also the 4 BoP that help smooth out any lack of not getting the right lands. The deck takes a beating in the early turns but then once a splinterfright or two are in play, you flash back a gnaw to the bone which can be any wheres from 8-24 and it becomes a whole new game largely in your favor. It just needs a way to be more consistent.

So whats popular now? I haven't played any type 2 recently (competitively) and still play Solar Flare casually. What are we playing and please, as usual, post a deck list ~MM __________________ I am MeddlingMage...YOUR Motl Survivor 11 Champion, 2007 Captain N award winner, 2010 Marlboro award winner, and 2011 Champion Tournament Pick'em MOTL NCAA Bracket Challenge winner!CM Punk "OMG Kevin Nash WTF, thought he was dead, LOL" New keeper of the Logout button

I recently played in a Standard Championship tourney at Superstars (brick and mortar store for ChannelFireball). I got second place (and $110 in store credit). There was a U/B control deck that took first, a U/B Zombies deck that made it to the semi-finals, a U/W Delver/Aggro deck that made top 8, a U/B Infect deck, and at least three R/G Ramp decks. I don't remember what the last deck was. I'd recommend that you look at the daily events on MTGO to see what's doing well - go to the right side for Event Coverage and see the decks that do well in daily events and premier events. U/W Humans, U/W Delver, Ramp, U/B Zombies, and U/B Control seem to be among the best decks in the format right now. Although, it's certainly possible to do well with other decks. I've been running this (or slight variations of this): 1 Birds of Paradise 3 Solemn Simulacrum 4 Huntmaster of the Fells 1 Acidic Slime 4 Primeval Titan 2 Green Sun's Zenith 4 Galvanic Blast 4 Slagstorm 4 Sphere of the Suns 4 Rampant Growth 3 Beast Within 4 Inkmoth Nexus 4 Copperline Gorge 4 Rootbound Crag 2 Kessig Wolf Run 7 Forest 5 Mountain

Won't be able to play it for the first time until Friday though. this is what I've been playing for the past month at least in some form or another:4 delver 4 snapcaster 4 huntmaster 2 garruk relentless 2 inferno titan 4 ponder 4 devil's play 2 shock 2 galv blast 4 mana leak 4 vapor snag 4 hinterland harbor 4 copperling gorge 4 sulfur falls 2 rootbound craig 6 island 4 mountain its somewhat similar to what you've listed. Sideboard has some whip flares, slag storms, ancient grudges, dissipates, and various other random cards. It seems to hold its own decently well. It finishes games out of no where w/ devil's play fairly often. Never be afraid to use them early.

it looks like it could easily work better tho. All the 1-3 of's seem to mean its not tuned enough yet. Sometimes a bunch of good cards can win, but the right good cards would let you win more easily.

Try tuning it, just seems the 1-2 of's actually work, 3 of's are generally things I want to draw, but don't want 4 of... *Shrugs* Would love to here suggestion, specially if anyone sleeves it up.....also thinking it might be my local meta that is distorting my view. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. American Miracles all the way. It's a fun deck in my opinion because it doesn't have a terribly good advantage in the format, and when it wins, people can claim you just topdecked all of your answers, making them feel like they lost to luck. Meanwhile, I'm still holding a planeswalker, sweeper, and o-ring or something after they stone-cold lose. The downside is the games often go too long. I'd love to have a finisher but it just doesn't fit in the 60.
