I just got my store's inventory in. Does anyone know if the guild packs will be reproduced or is it plausible to think that these will retain value unopened over time? I suspect I'll have quite a bit leftover is why I'm asking.

They might enjoy a very limited-scope aftermarket value (as a rarity, or as a draft item for particular customers).I'd say your best bet would be to try to use them for your own event. "Post-release" party, if you will. Worst case scenario - you've got a gift box that has 5 regular boosters, a spin-down die, and a promo card. I'd wager you could retail those for $20-25 and move every last one of them in the near future.

Foil Charms, angel of serenity (though the margin on this isn't super high, I see her going higher to around 25-30 once the card pool opens up a bit), Detention Sphere. All the rest are at their all-time highs.

I think he meant which cards to target for deck construction? Because this isn't a draft (unless your shop has side event drafts) so you can't exactly pick your cards (unless he means trading).I don't have my own list, but I did happen to read this article with some interesting takes: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/maxsjoblom-092712-return-to-limited/ I'm not sure I agree with a lot of what he says there, but he does back them up logically. For me, I will have to read the cards as I open them and look for the best stack of 23 cards with the most synergy.

Azorius, hands down. With enough detainment effects and the 2/2 blue critter that draws cards, Azorius has enough evasion/carddraw/bodies to push through. Not counting Arrest and the likes.

I really think it depends on your playing style. Azorius and Izzet colors in this set both seem like they require a good grasp on timing and rules, whereas the others are more straight-forward.

Well, just placed 14 out of 48.I played Izzet, and opened a Niv Mizzet in my guild pack. Note: The guild packs are NOT the same for everyone! I didn't get an Izzet rune key, but I got Niv and a guildmage. Two players next to me got neither a Niv nor a guildmage. They each opened Mercurial Chemisters. I opened mostly Azorius bombs in my regular packs, so I went with RUW. Rares: Lotleth Troll, Hallowed Fountain, Archon of the Triumvirate, Collective Blessing, Wild Beastmaster. Prizes for placing 9-16 were a single bonus pack, and I pulled an Angel of Serenity in mine

So after huminahawing for awhile I decided on Selysnea. Pretty pleased with me pick. went 4-1-0, only losing to two turn two pack rats. That card is the biggest limited bomb in quite awhile. Ended up 5th out of 75 (rounds were cut short, should of been 7 but im okay with that). Lots of hype for Rakdos and Golgari. I played 3 rakdos, 1 azroius 1 golgari. I slaughtered them all except the one player who dropped pack rat. He was playing Golgari, but I do not exaggerate when I say pack rat won him the game. His golgari-ness did little against sylesnea. So overall I am glad that I went with my original choice. Sylesnea did have a weakness I didn't really encounter. I had little flyer defense. Additionally, the 1 1/3 flyer pegasus was one of my biggest damage dealers. Removal was expensive in the set, but was always worth it when used. I'll add to this after, two-headed giant in about 6-7 hours and I need some sleep. Edit:
Anyone have suggestions on two-headed guild packs? Like which two to choose. Love suggestions/opinions. Considering Rakdos and Izzet/Azorius, or Double golgari and the rest into a tricks deck. Or Selysnea and azorius/izzet.

Wow... I didn't go because I was a little under weather, plus I need to study. And damn, my friend said at our store, we ran out of EVERYTHING, even for the Sunday flight. This is even crazier than Zendikar.

7th out of 52 (4-2) with really good tiebreakers.Izzet, and got myself a second Hypersonic Dragon and Mizzium Mortars (never used the overload). Also got a Overgrown Tomb, Pack Rats, Rest in Peace, and Precinct Captain. Needed some extra removal and beef so splashed black. The 3B 4/4 Defender, lose defender if have a gate guys are the HOT ****. Blustersquall is a house. As is traitorous Instinct - nothing like dealing an opponents Archon of the Triumvirate 4 damage with mizzium mortars, gaining control of it with the instinct, smashing face, and dealing it the last one damage with izzet staticaster. GG. Yeah, the Selesnya land was boss last night...just no land removal and I had no bounce. Nothing like Growing Ranks with the 8/8 token in player. Twice...lame. Win vs. Azorius, Golgari 3x, Loss to Golgari and Selesnya. __________________ -Schmitty 85th in Refs [282] on MOTL (2 behind Gamma_1) 2nd in Refs [282] in OH-IO (72 behind souladvocate) 2nd in Posts [7466] in OH-IO (only 600 behind Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Regarding the two-headed giant decks go, I'd say pick two guilds that use opposite colors so you can share the card pool and both benefit. Azorius was really strong, and Golgari would be a nice compliment without competing for colors.

1st out of however many were playing (24-25 or something), though the prize support for these aren't really great for people that do well, not going to go into that here. Really happy with the results. I chose Rakdos and opened so little for it that I felt so crappy when I was actually building my deck--it took almost zero thought to put the 23 non-land cards together because there were just literally no choices. I guess what ended up happening was that I had a decent U/C base with absolutely zero bombs (other than the one Hellsteed) but just enough removal, and it was fast enough to kill people. Most of my good stuff was in Selesnya. Watched guy across from me pull a Rakdos's Return, and another guy pulled two Jaces and a Lotleth Troll. I got an Armada Wurm at least, but it's not like I could actually really play it.

Prize support depends on the stores... my LGS gave out a M:tG carrying case, a Commander-style deck box (these: http://www.mtgfanatic.com/store/viewitem.aspx?i=dck-bx-000192), and 8 packs to the top player. 2nd place got 8 packs and the deck box, 3-8 got 4 packs each and a smaller deck box, then 9-16 got one pack. I thought it was pretty fair for 48 players, plus they had a free BBQ cookout (chicken, potato salad, macaroni and broccoli, some other stuff). Really cool shop with a great player base.

The dice were nice... The letter was cool.. Even the guild related pack was ok... But did anyone else construct totally opposite decks of their guild alignment??? I pick Azorius yet my packs produced 2 Blood Crypt and Trowtani to start... And heaven forbid if a had an aligned Mage!!

Placed 2nd out of 16 play Golgari. Swept most matches until I hit another Golgari deck in the finals that had pulled a few better cards.Took home 13 boosters for my prize support. Pulled two NivMizzets, Hypersonic, Overgrown Tomb, Hallowed Fountain, Dreadbore and a foil Deathrite Shaman. Very happy!

Went Selesnya today. My guild pack was awesome. Started out 3-0-1 (shouldve been 4-0) and then got mana screwed hard core round 5. Finished 14 overall out of about 50.~MM Edit: Populate was too much for people. Lots of 3/3 Centaur tokens. __________________ I am MeddlingMage...YOUR Motl Survivor 11 Champion, 2007 Captain N award winner, 2010 Marlboro award winner, and 2011 Champion Tournament Pick'em MOTL NCAA Bracket Challenge winner!CM Punk "OMG Kevin Nash WTF, thought he was dead, LOL" New keeper of the Logout button

Azorius was horrible for me. Went 1-3, didn't pull any good removal. No arrows, no arrests, no Supreme Verdict. 1 Detention sphere and like 2 Detains. I went with UW tempo flyers which would have worked if Rakdos didn't kill me with tons of creatures or if Izzet didn't kill everything in sight. Guttersnipes are nasty and the Lobber Crew is gross.

Lobber Crew is a very sneaky "tempo card" and I had two of them in my packs "Block, then tap to ping you" haha. Buying me time all day long until I could drop Niv-Miz or Hypersonic (or Archon of the Triumvirate).
