Lost in top 8 first round playing Izzet. Totally misread Archon (didn't realize he only detain when attack) and then drew 13 lands out of 17 lands in 3rd game .My deck was pretty good with 2 of the 2/2 Goblin dude, 2 Goblin Guttersnipe and Niv-Mizzet. Kills people all day with Guttersnipe. Got 3 prize packs (it's low since the store always try to give everyone something). Traded 2 of them and something else for an Overgrown Tomb. Watched the guy then pulled Abrupt Decay and Rakdos's Return. Then traded the last pack and something else for those 2. Then watched the guy pulled a Dreadbore AND FOIL Detention Sphere. LOL. *face palm*

my brother and a teammate both 3-1'ed at the prerelease. I did not get to go. My teammate's sealed pool was insane. He chose Selensya, and opened -A 2nd Grove of the Guardian -Isperia, Supreme Judge -Loxodon Smiter -Precinct Captain along with the Selensya Guildmage and 3-4 populate C/uc. The deck looked stacked. Apparently they got blown out by aggressive decks. I'm surprised Rakdos is as good as they were saying, but congratz to everyone who was able to attend. I wish I could have.

I thought it was pretty fair for 48 players, .
That prize support seems terrible...1 pack per person into the pool? where'd the other 48 packs go considering iirc 2 per player are supposed to go into the pool...

Went Golgari. Pool was good (Abrupt Decay, Blood Crypt, Loxodon Smiter, and Cyclonic Rift). Deck seemed good. My play was bad. 1-2 drop like a boss.Did manage to pick up a Jace on the cheap though, and got some good money cards anyway. I very much underestimated Scavenge. I thought it would be too overcosted and irrelevant, but it came in handy every single game. Even without Corpsejack. Just dumping +1 counters onto the lifelink bat was great. Managed to stop the Azorius guy in round one who cast his promo and an Overloaded Cyclonic Rift on me by just having a 5/5 lifelink bat... Cyclonic Rift seems like the sleeper card in this set BTW. I woulda liked to have done better, but all in all a decent day.

Well, I have no idea if it's supposed to be "2 packs per player" but it seemed to me like the prizes were pretty stellar. Those deck boxes are $20 each MSRP and selling for $40 each on eBay and Amazon (for the black ones). The smaller ones are $10 each easily (they were the single-deck MAX Ions) and the shop gave away 6 of them. The carrying bag that went to first place is probably another $20, and they threw a free BBQ for all attendees. Seems like a lot more $$$ went into it than 48 packs, and they ran four of these things over this weekend (last one starts in a few hours). I could understand if you'd rather have the packs, but I much prefer their version.

I like your version better too, free BBQ is always good and sealed packs tend to be overrated. Sure, you can hit a bomb and make a bunch of fast cash, but the chances of that are slim at best. The deck boxes/carrying bag were just icing on the cake.

Took 6th in my prerelease going 4-1-1 playing bant splashed 1 mountain and an Izzet Keyrune for Mercurial Chemister. Didn't open any mythic bombs, but the Azorius rare and Righteous Authority on flying dudes got there. Got 9 packs from that, then played in a draft using the box provided by the guy that won. Ended up splitting the finals there, netting another 6 packs. Azorius was okay, but everyone (myself included) seemed to be X splashed Selesnya. The Selesnya decks were definitely the most difficult matchup for me all day, and probably the strongest guild choice.

I took Rakdos to a 4-1, 5th out of 64. I pulled Niv-Mizzet and Hallowed Fountain but couldnt make them work in a deck so i didnt play them. Other rares i played were 1 dreadbore and Cryptborn Horror and Carnival Hellsteed. Unleash is awesome, especially in a format like this. My only loss was in round 5, to Azorius. i had beaten Azorius once already, this time i just had a bad draw two games in a row. It happens. Overall i was very pleased as this was my first ever sealed event and i still took 5th. As far as prize support, I won an Ultra Pro binder and 4 additional booster packs, from which i pulled another Hallowed Fountain, Supremem Verdict, Mizzium Mortars, and Chromatic Lantern. All in all it was a ton of fun, and i can't wait to get the shot to do this again.

Righteous Authority would always fizzle for me (creatures killed or bounced). How did you prevent that?

I just waited for my opponents to tap out usually before I dropped it. It wasn't all that difficult to drop it early as I had some ramp in my deck (2 keyrunes & an Axebane Guardian), and it usually only took 2 combat steps before they were dead at that point. Even if it was removed the next turn, the extra 7 or so damage I gained off of that swing seemed to be enough.

Chose Selesnya, got no additional Selesnya/Golgari/Azorious support in my 5 packs. Couldn't even get any populate action going Opened the following rares for my sealed pool: 01 Carnival Hellsteed 01 Conjured Currency (FOIL) 01 Firemind's Foresight 01 Grove of the Guardian (Pre-Release) 01 Growing Ranks 01 Havoc Festival 01 Mizzium Mortars 01 Cyclonic Rift C/U were all over the place. Went 1-3-1 and dropped before round 6. Switched entire deck to R/U/B for round 5 just to see if I could have done better. Nope. Pity pack for just showing up netted me a Steam Vents, so I'd say it was a push. --Evil __________________ I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. Yesterday was the two-headed Giant. My teammate and I had an awesome time. One of the best tournaments I have attended. We were in synch in all of our games, and had lots of laughs. Not once, but twice (game 2 and 4), he dropped lobber crew on turn 3 and then we topdecked rakdos on turn 4. It was hilarious, as we both were prospecting a topdeck and did 'magic fingers' to his deck for a laugh. Then when we actually flipped rakdos we busted out laughing. We took a Selysnea and an Izzet deck. We wanted rakdos, but it was really ironic that my selysnea pack was rakdos stacked (carnival hellstead and havoc festival and cryptborn horror) and his izzet was rakdos/sylesnea heavy (dreadbore and rakdos). Lobber crew was a definite sleeper, as in two headed it hit both opponents. Hit with lobber crew, dreadbore. Hit with crew from untap, cryptborn. Before resolution, hit with lobber crew again for a total of 6 dropping the cryptborn. We had between us a total of 13 removal spells and 26 creatures. went 3-1, only losing in an incredibly tight game against azorius/jund. If they hadn't won on that turn, we would of turned it around. Today is the last pre-release. We are having it at a bar, and the Fanchix girls are coming to perform a burlesque show, play magic, and offer lapdances. Happy hour prices are in effect, and it is going to be an awesome time. T-minus two hours, can't wait!

I chose Golgary, and got no green awesomeness so I had to change to Rakdos. my deck ( mana cost): street spasm (x1) electrickery (1) slitherhead (1) thrill kill assasin (2) daggerdrome imp (2) rix maadi guildmage (2) 2x sewer shambler (3) 2x stab wound (3) 2x auger spree (3) 2x annihilating fire (3) viashine racketeer (3) cobblebrute(4) slum reaper (4) perilous shadow (4) catacomb slug (5) 2x tenement crasher (6) carnival hellsteed (6) 1x transguild promenade 1x Blood crypt 8x swamps 8x mountains I saw it, my curve was above 3, awful, my only strategy was try to survive first turns with removal and then try to push through with big dumb beasts. 1st round - got a by 2nd round - against 4 color poupurri - 2-0 3rd round - against Jund - 2-0 4th round - against undefeated Azorious - 2-0 5th round - against another undefeated azorious - 2-1 Won first place out of 30+ peeps and 16 packs. games highlights: hellsteed and the crashers were just too much for people to handle. haste just caught people offguard. they won me most of my games. incredible. people were even telling me at teh styart of the tourney, "well at least you got a shockland". pretty fun night.

I googled Fanchix and found a plethora of interesting media, including a certain video of these ladies playing Magic. Yes you will have one of the best pre-releases I've ever heard of. Sounds epic. --Evil __________________ I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

Sounds like I need to go to pre-release in Canada, the US apparently has no idea how to run one of these

Nderwife ended up surprising me with a trip to Portland to play the first 3 prereleases this weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't fully think out that after having worked all day Friday like normal, maybe a midnight, 11 AM and 4 PM event all back to back might end up with us a bit too tired to think by the end of it. Because the store people know us well, they let us get the same deal as the people who signed up for all 6 events all weekend, being guaranteed one of each guild, then the last one being random. I twice traded my Izzet for Azorius because I knew my brain wasn't working well enough to play UR, and Detain with fliers tended to work well for me. First event went well, going 2-1 before drawing with my final opponent so I could just grab 2 prize packs and rush back to the hotel for a few hours of sleep. The other two times I went 1-3 due to lots of play mistakes and a subpar pool. The final event, the only hightlight was winning 2 games on the day with Azor Elocutor, thanks to a Palisade Giant and 2 Archon of the Triumvirates protecting him. Nderwife pulled a Jace and Cyclonic Rift. The only mythic I pulled in any event was the white Angel, and we only ended up with 1 shockland. On the plus side, now she wants a half-case so we can play some sealed at home. I just have to track down a good price somewhere. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! I played 2 prerelease tournaments. First day I went 3 and 1 with Izzet and opened a Temple Garden and Hallowed Fountain both which I didn't play to win 3 packs opening a Lotleth Troll out of one of the prize packs and the 2nd day I went 1 and 2 drop with Rakdos splash green for Lotleth Troll and few other green cards. Both games I lost on the 2nd day went to 3rd game and were close losses.

just another thought on this, for those of you who weren't aware. apparently a lot of the golgari guild packs from various areas were loaded with 2 rares per pack.so if you lost to golgari, that could have been a reason. Frank opens up one here and gets wayyyyy too many rares http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=10739

That's your answer right there. You've been around long enough to know that this is a family site, and if something's not safe for work, it's definitely not safe for MOTL. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. We need a prominent trading site called like, "Adults who play Magic" lol. There is important stuff to post! Not saying to do it here. I'm just saying if there were a good place like that with relaxed rules with a solid user base, I'd probably be a regular
