1. What one piece of advice would you like to share with others to help them be more successful or be happier?2. What failure in your life have you experienced that you feel is important to have lived through to help you grow? 3. What would you like to do right now that is just outside of your reach because of one thing (money, people, other resources)? 4. Now for some serious questions... I currently enjoy your sense of humor yet I can see how others might get upset with your sense of sarcasm, my question being are you like this to your realworld friends aswell? Has your argumentative instincts ever gotten you in trouble outside of Motl? Do you drink? Wanna come over for a beer with Aggy and I ?

1) I'm 18, I'm not really in a position to offer anyone worthy specific advice. But if there's one thing I think everyone should remember, I'll happily pass on George Carlin's parting wish to question everything. Question everything you're told, everything you hear, everything you read. You don't have to always disagree with it, but always question things told to you by government, or businesses, or clergy, or anyone in a position of power. 2) I don't know if I've had a life-defining failure. Which just means of course I'm overdue for one I still have to answer your question though, hmm... To be honest, one of the failures in my life that I think has changed who I am today was my (pitiful) wrestling career. I don't know whether it was stage fright, a lack of confidence, or what but I could never seem to be able to step up my game once the whistle blew on the mat. For two years I felt a sort of background guilt for not being able to perform the way my team needed me. I had my share of pins, but overall I had a losing record. And I hated myself for it. Somewhere along the line though, I broke the paralysis and now I can step up to conflicts. On a more positive note, I think that's why I've finally acquired an exercise habit. 6:20 mile now, 6:00 by the end of june is the goal! 3) If I had my way I would love to be enrolling at George Washington University next fall to get my undergraduate degree. I'm going to University of Delaware instead, and don't get me wrong, as things stand right now it's no question which one I want to go to. But if the stars were to align I'd choose GW in a heartbeat. Partly it's the money that's keeping me from enrolling there (I'd rather not be in student debt from my undergrad when I move on to law school), and partly it's the education. I'm in Honors for UD, so I get smaller class sizes, priority registration, and nicer housing. At GW I wasn't in Honors and therefore lacked all those benefits. And it's partly institutional, because while at UD the staff is very open, helpful, and friendly, at GW the professors made it all about their egos. But if all could change, yeah I'd rather go there. 4) Hmm... the price guides update pretty slowly sometimes. It'd be cool if that was more regular. seriously though, I'm pretty happy with MOTL as the way it is. We don't need avatars or anything dumb like that. 5) Oh god. Again, I can't speak about people who are older than me, because it's certainly not true, but from what I can tell with interactions with my peers I seem to be more understanding and empathetic than others, and I'm leagues better at conflict resolution. But again, I can only speak for people my age, since I'm sure (or at least I dearly hope) most of them catch up with maturity

1) D'awww thanks amigo! 2) I'm flattered that you think I'm awesome. Is it cool that the feeling is mutual? 3) Depends on where they live. For people who don't live in Bear, or directly next to it, the response is a blank stare and "where's that??". For people who live in Bear, it's "What?! Someone else lives there? How did I not know you lived there?". Yes, Bear is such a boring place we're all so desperate to get out of it we don't even notice who else lives there. 4) Nice deck plug well, I'm not an expert on legacy by any means, but yeah it looks like you've got enough blue spells to run FoW main, assuming you're not overextending on the battlefield. I'm also curious in knowing how preordain is working better for you than brainstorm (no, seriously, I'm not being snarky, I genuinely want to know). What sort of spells are you running into that need countering? If you're skewing more towards blue than you'd like to support FoW, have you considered putting your Missteps in main? 5) Oooh! 1 - Momir Vig, general of my favorite EDH deck and an awesome villain from the novels 2 - Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, amazing card and took me far both at the NPH launch and release parties. 3 - Kamahl, Fist of Krosa, because green can be badass too 4 - Edric, Spymaster of Trest - he sounds like some designer's D&D character, but he's sooo political. Love it! I've thought about feeding my inner history nerd and altering a copy so it has Henry Kissinger in the artwork instead :P 5 - Riku of the Two Reflections - He copies instants and sorceries. And he copies creatures. How did I play magic without this guy?! Friday needs to come here now! quote: Originally posted by BoltBait: 1. Post a recent picture.(That isn't a question, is it?) 2. 1) This is about a month old (I'm on the far right in the orange shirt) 2) High School education, enrolling at University of Delaware with honors next fall. From there, a degree in political science, and after that, a law degree from (if I can manage it, and I humbly submit that I can) George Washington University or some other DC law school. 3) Right now I'm a host at Friendly's part-time, and a soundboard operator at my school's (amazingly nice) theater for local dance companies super part-time. I hate the former and love the latter. 4) They're pretty good. I've only ever had one, but I think they're alright. My extended family is a little more messed up, but nuclear-wise it's pretty traditional and cliched. 5) Taking my mock trial team to 4th place at the delaware mock trial competition this year with only two other people who weren't n00bs. And winning Best Attorney. 6) Tattoos aren't really my cup of tea.

As we covered already, it's pronounced "your highness".

1) As always, the Butler did it! 2) See #1 3) Oscar the Grouch, for teaching young children the importance of pessimism. 4) Medium rare, with stir-fried mushrooms on top and mashed potatoes on the side. Absolutely NO gravy! 5) the ones who do it for attention are the silliest. The ones that do it out of genuine concern for animals, slightly misguided. If they really wanted to avoid animal suffering in their food there's no choice but growing it themselves, because thousands of fieldmice, rabbits, etc are slaughtered accidentally by threshing machines to make your salad. Heh.

1) The style of humor I use changes when I'm around different groups of people. I like reading them and figuring out what their sensibilities are, and then matching my style to that (yes, I've toyed with the idea of trying standup). Around people who know and accept my style of humor and realize I'm not the jaded a-hole I come off as, yep that's how I roll irl. For example, my new favorite joke is: I just got back from the battered women's shelter and boy are my arms tired! Yes, going to hell. 2) Oh god, I can't count the number of times. Thankfully they've become less frequent as the years wear on 3) No, but the more I read about it the more red wine seems like a no-brainer to have at least once a day. I'm assuming you were referring to beer and others, to which I say no not right now. Perhaps later, but I'm not really intrigued by drinking, and certainly not to the point of being drunk. 4) I don't know if it'd be possible, and I doubt I'd drink something hard myself, but I think that'd be fun you seem like a really interesting fellow. Plus, I still need those pictures __________________ "I never got any respect at all. My family moved a lot when I was a kid, but I always found them." -- Rodney Dangerfield

Rite of Replication (kicked) to both. Worst-case scenario, it gives you six game enders rather than one (by worst I mean "most boring"). At best, you get an army of someone else's best creature, or, in my personal favorite moment of 'OOPS LOL' of all time, you cast it on someone's Priest of Titania, tap all of them for forty mana, and kill your opponents dead with a Fireball. As for Mafia and WW, I would - and I know this isn't popular, for whatever reason - go back to adding as many different roles as possible. On Mottlesalvation, just like on MOTL before, what kills games is inactivity. Give everyone a role and they'll want to stick around.

1) Because effective communication is for losers and English is a language of Winners. 1B) Do they have to be worn as intended for it to count? 2) I would have two half-crumbs, the hell with your tricky question! 3) I haven't had any memorable 'victory from the jaws of defeat' style wins (I've had quite a few epic, and in hindsight hilarious, misplays though). The most memorable win to me has to be casting a kicked rite of replication on priest of titania and then killing the other two players instantly with a fireball. Well, instantly in a manner of speaking, of course. quote: Originally posted by ogre: Favorite food?Top 10 favorite movies? When did you get into Magic cards and who/how did you get involved? 1) 1/4lb all-beef hotdog, grilled to perfection (crispy on the outside, not on the inside), served on a bun with cheese, ketchup, and mustard. Burritos are pretty good too. 2) Only the top 5 are in particular order. 10. Caddyshack 9. Dr. Strangelove 8. My Cousin Vinny 7. Fargo 6. The Godfather 5. Apocalypse Now 4. Pulp Fiction 3. Vertigo 2. The Usual Suspects 1. Psycho 3) I was introduced to it by a cousin of mine back around the time Mirrodin was released. He only gave me extras of his worst cards, and I lost every game we played against his (in hindsight godawful) green deck which consisted of literally nothing but oodles of land and then massive creatures. I still stuck with it though, and now I'm the better player 4) I remain optimistic that, as Mark Twain famously put it, Congress will do the right thing once they've exhausted all other possibilities. 5) Unless we get our act together with reregulation, and seriously crack down on the current incestuous relationship between regulators and the private industries they regulate, I don't see things looking too good for america. Ideally we'd put more effort into developing a manufacturing base for green technology and infrastructure. With gas prices rising still it's just a no-brainer. And to that end, I'd like Congress to quit subsidizing the gas prices, because the only way we're going to get serious about alternative energy is if oil is no longer an option. Collectively, we're dumb as bricks, and brute force seems to be the only way to motivate the herd. In the short term we need to start cutting the deficit with a piecemeal approach consisting of raising taxes and cutting spending, but in specific areas of govt spending, specifically entitlements. I've done some research on what the Obama healthcare law will do for medicare costs and the results are positive. Included in the law is a shift of medicare's payout system from its current method of volume-based payment (which incentivizes hospitals to shuttle patients around and rack up the cost) to results-based payment. Furthermore, I've personally (using CBO figures) calculated the Social Security expenditures for the forseeable future, and if we raise the age of retirement to N-5, where N is the national average life expectancy determined by census data, we'll start posting over a hundred billion dollars in surplus annually. This is keeping in the spirit of Social Security as it was established - in 1933 the average life expectancy was 60. You weren't expected to live long enough to qualify for social security, which is a massive difference from today, where the average american will get 12 years of payouts. Another thing I think we could try (though I admit I've done no research on the topic) is to raise our tariff rates. Not a lot, not enough to trigger a war, but higher than the >5% we're at now, which is much lower than other nations. Raise it a bit and use the revenue to pay down the debt. those are my thoughts on the matter, anyhow quote: Originally posted by bigbob585: 1. Do you like sushi2. What was the proudest moment in your life?
1) I hate sushi. 2) The biggest and longest nightmare story would be the shop I used to go to before I found my current one. It was populated by obnoxious, cutthroat, immature gamers and at least one pedophile (no, seriously). One guy in particular was the amalgamation of every negative gaming stereotype - disgustingly overweight, slovenly, a poor sportsman, unhygenic, crass, rude, bossy, childish, manipulative, and with the world's biggest ego. So memorable is he that me and my buddies who left the store still refer to awful opponents as "bob"s. 3) Trollandtoad is pretty good in my experience. Starcitygames' prices are a bad joke. 4) raise minimum wage by a dollar? 5) Like I said before, I'm only 18, so I haven't had that impressive a proudest moment yet but so far, taking my mock trial team to 4th place out of 30 teams and winning the best attorney gavel was a pretty proud moment. Especially when the year before, when I was just a witness, we had taken 16th out of 20. quote: Originally posted by WCFmo: 1. Have you ever seen a man eat so many chicken wings?2. How many times do I have to tell you to clean your room?
1) No, but I have seen a haggis-eating contest, which was gross. 2) Does not exist, not because you're dividing by zero, but because there's no number in the numerator because I haven't taken the test 3) Nah, I'll leave it to professionals like Dustin Hoffman. 4) -5 5) Is this a rhetorical question?! quote: Originally posted by CubFan81: Since we got your favorite card to play how about a few more:1) Favorite Magic color? 2) Favorite deck? 1) Green, followed by blue, and then white/black combined. 2) My Momir Vig EDH, followed closely by my Ghost Dad EDH, but I suspect they'll both be taking a backseat to Riku and Animar on Friday. Which can't get here quick enough by the way! 3) Time Spiral. WotC can try to sling mud on Natalie Portman (the opposite of putting lipstick on a pig?) all they want, but Time Spiral was an amazing set. Certainly it's the only one where the commons are actually interesting. 4) Modern format, should it become legal, sounds pretty good. 5) I would add enemy color dual lands to the core sets. We already have uncommon enemy color hosers in the set to drive home the idea of allies and enemies, intentionally crippling certain deck archetypes on such a weak principle strikes me as frankly stupid. quote: Originally posted by JoshSherman: What is your favorite sit-down restaurant? What is your favorite home-cooked food? 1) Chain restaurant is Perkin's, because I have so many good memories there with friends (a friend's girlfriend was a server there and we'd go there weekly for dinner). Non-chain is Angelo's Pizzaria in Montross, VA. The crust melts in your mouth. 2) Beefaroni, yum! 3) Fish and chips, but only if the fish is beer-battered and not breaded. 4) Not at all, ew. 5) Xbox 360, I like playing tactical FPSes (Black Ops before it went to modder hell, Rainbow Six Vegas 2). I tend to choose games based on reccommendations from friends or if they're particularly innovative or outstanding in some regard (Assassin's Creed series for gameplay style, story, and controls - Brotherhood makes you feel like a real assassin, Mass Effect for story, and how it truly is a game where you control the plot, and Portal because it's genius puzzles). My all-time favorite game however, bar none, is BioShock. And I can't wait for BioShock Infinite quote: Originally posted by Cab: Why do you want to go to law school/why do you want to become a lawyer?
Now that I've actually tried my hand at being a lawyer, if even a pretend one for mock trial, I can say confidently that I really genuinely enjoy it. I also count critical thinking, analyzing, debating, and thinking on my feet as among my stronger talents, and for some reason I seem to be better than my peers at public speaking and doing so off the cuff. Law plays into all of those strengths, and I wouldn't mind the research aspect too much either, considering I'll have to make it through being a paralegal first haha. I'm strongly opposed to going into a private firm, because being an ambulance chaser or a litigator for big wealthy business holds little appeal to me. I feel like it's my responsibility to do what I can with the talents I have to make other people's lives better somehow in my life - after all, that's the only legacy we can leave when we go. So to that end, perhaps working as a district attorney or a public defender, or in the Justice Department. Somewhere I can feel like I've made a difference. If I can have my own It's A Wonderful Life moment where I realize I've helped even one person have a better life somehow, I'll consider it a success. quote: Originally posted by hilikuS: What'll it take for you to paint/draw me the rest of a p9 proxy set?People are forever loving the ones you sent me via the Hoarder's Bank awhile back.
Not going to lie, I'm a little amazed to hear that, considering that was before I got halfway decent at altering cards! I've actually got a completely free weekend ahead of me (no pressing engagements, parents are out of town and I'd rather just relax than party) so I can sit down and finish 'em off. Which ones don't you have? As for what it'll take, a quick survey of your list turned up oodles of things I've been looking for for my Ghost Council EDH deck (particularly Debtors' Knell, I'm about ready to sell a freaking kidney to find one of those). PM me and we can work it all out! quote: Originally posted by Myy: why do you enjoy Adventure time so much?what did you think of Kung Fu Pande 2? how tall are you? what's you take on Fraternities? good, bad, why? would you rather meet Megan Fox, Natalie Portman or Milla Jovovich? 1) Because its sense of humor appeals to me. It's a show that, more than any other I've come across, seems to remember what it's like to be a kid, and revel in it. auto-tune finn's voice whenever he sings? Why the hell not? They have a companion who's an anthropomorphic video game console! Like Axe Cop, or Calvin and Hobbes, Adventure Time makes no excuse or pretensions about its silliness - it is what it is. And it loves to subvert expectations as to what a kid's show is. Many tropes of young children's television shows - Don't Talk to Strangers, Bullies Can Be Healed and Befriended, Don't Resolve Conflicts with Violence are all initiated in episodes and then thrown for a sharp left turn into insanityville. One episode Jake and Finn find and cure a bully, only to realize that the presence of that bully was the only thing keeping a larger predator from swooping in and eating the cheerful little creatures he was picking on. When a skeleton appears out of nowhere and offers Finn 'magical powers' if he follows him through a portal, Jake cautions him against it, not because you shouldn't talk to strangers, but because "he's ugly! And ugly people have low self-esteem, so you can get more out of them!". 2) I didn't see it 3) I think I'm about 6' even. Which is funny, because my facebook profile pic just happens to be me with my buddies, who are 3 of the maybe 5 or 6 other people in my class who were taller than me. 4) I'm ambivalent. Like any institution, they've got a dark side (date rape, excessive partying) that is an undeniable truth but also not the norm for the institution. I personally won't be joining one at college, but I understand those who do. 5) Can't stand Megan Fox and an unfamiliar with Milla Jovovich, which makes Natalie Portman the clear winner! 6) ObamaIsKillingAmerica, if you replace "what they've been doing since being banned" with "their opinions on recent political events". quote: Originally posted by OGB: What is your favorite word? 1) I don't know if I have a favorite word (I have a least favorite word, but I can't even type it without grimacing I hate it so much), but I love wordplay. Carlin is my favorite comedian, and while it's hard to unseat him as the master of language with brilliant bits like A Modern Man, up-and-comer Bo Burnham does a pretty damn good job of trying. Sorry Bugger, if it's NSFW, it's also NSFM. ~ Jaz . Literally every line is a pun, double entendre, or other play on words, and it's seamless. fwiw, the video is bizarre and irrelevant. 2) Does the pope **** in the woods? 3) Probably, I'm not too competitive 4) Doubly irresponsible for wasting so many resources. Food prices are climbing, energy costs are too. I don't care how much "in love" you are or what your archaic customs tell you to do, don't be an ******* and have that many kids. quote: Originally posted by Jazaray: 1) What kind of law do you want to go into?2) What made you decide to be a lawyer? Do you have a shark fetish like I do? 3) Can I ask you for legal advice, once you pass the bar? 4) Do you want to have kids? How many? Does it matter what gender? 5) What state (or country if that's your preference) would you like to end up living in, to settle down? 6) When are you gonna come and visit me? Thanks, Jazaray
1) I don't know, to be honest. I'm keeping my options open at this point, but considering that the environment and resources are going to be the defining issue for humanity in the 21st century, environmental law seems like a smart choice. 2) See Cab's question and my response 3) Are you kidding?! For you, my dear, anything 4) I don't know, I don't know, and I don't know. Probably 2, probably boy and girl. 5) DC if I can. I love everything about it 6) Whenever I can! We need to do one of those MOTL picnics again! __________________ "I never got any respect at all. My family moved a lot when I was a kid, but I always found them." -- Rodney Dangerfield

FYI - I've been stalking this thread waiting for you to answer my questions in your massive re-answer.Follow up: what is your least favorite (same as most-hated?) word? I went to a Bo Burnham show blind, which is to say, before I knew how talented he was. I was completely blown away by his lyrics. So, what is your favorite lyric of his? I'd have to say the one about Duraflame, the unnatural log. __________________ 2010 Homer Simpson Award Winnerhttp://classic.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/016901.html

Ugh... Jillian is my least favorite word. I know lots of people hate "moist" because of how it rolls off the tongue, and that's the same reason I hate... well... I don't want to write it again! My favorite line of his (there are so many good ones it's hard to choose!):

Have you listened to Art is Dead? Massive respect points to him for writing that. Definitely knows a lot about his craft. __________________ "I never got any respect at all. My family moved a lot when I was a kid, but I always found them." -- Rodney Dangerfield
