I have no experience being a Tournament Organiser, but the first question that came to my head was what would you need to buy that the store does not have?

Release and prerelease, to the best of my knowledge, require a premier store. Wizards is shipping product (and free boxes for prize support) before the products release date so I'm doubtful they'll do it for anything associated solely with WPN. I believe the store has to apply for the prerelease/release. If you have a higher store level (however that works) then you have the potential to be able to run more then 1 day of pre/release events.

A release event does not require a premiere store, but prereleases do.__________________ *MafiaBass*Joshweek*Letter Bombs!*Prices*Gatherer*Logout <Tranderas> damn

Well, booster packs, for one. For some odd reason, the local store can't get the owners to get them product more than sporadically, claiming that the store needs to show that they can make money first. The problem with this theory is that it's a used game store, and that part is not doing well at all. Every time Magic packs are brought in, they sell like hotcakes and a box won't last a week. Somehow, this in no way suggests to the guys in charge that our store can make money by selling Magic. I'm trying to find a way to get around this problem. We've already shown that our guys want this, as at the M11 release event, several of us drove the hour and a half to the main store and we had half of all of the players in that event. We always have more people show up locally than they do at their location for Friday Night Magic. I just can't fathom why they feel that our location isn't good enough for Magic. Sounds like I need to either find a place to buy the boxes retail the day before the release events or convince the store to let us order from WotC and act like a normal store. I'll see if I can get them to finish up the paperwork if I promise to front the money for the boxes in return for getting to keep the tournament fees.

I am able to sanction Release Events just fine, and should be able to do the same for Prerelease events soon since we just hit our Core requirements, and the only venue I'm associated with is the local store, which isn't a premiere store yet. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I'm thinking of buying some CE cards for my cubes -- I'm not putting too much care into pimping it out, but WB cards really bother me and CE is cheaper. Is there a noticable difference between the cards when they're in sleeves? I was considering buying bulk CE basic lands, but I don't want to if they're going to stick out. Again, this is for cube, not tournaments.__________________ seancperry on MTGO

Because the rules there are absolutely insane and make no sense at all? Example: I was looking for some old magic software, I searched the forum, found a thread about it posted a while ago, and posted asking for information about the project, if anyone had heard of it or similar. Normally, that's good, because I would not be spamming the forum with duplicate threads. I got a warning. Geez, I'm a pretty rough mod in Brazil, I ban people straight without infracting first, but some of those guys over there are... weird...

That is extremely stupid in the case he mentioned. Thread necro is bad for trade lists and such. There's nothing remotely bad about it, and it should be encouraged for discussion topics when you're adding new information or requesting further details and the like. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Wasn't trying to justify their mods, just saying I bet that's what he got the infraction for. It all goes back to DnD basically. Those of you who think necromancy spells are inherently bad, well you better recognize.

I started my cube off by buying a sealed CE set and cracking it. It looks great with BB duals and power and the few things I don't have foil yet such as wrath. I haven't noticed any difference at all when playing or shuffling, but I do NOT allow riffle shuffling of my cube. Its over half foil so no way are people goign to start putting shuffle creases in my cards. Most people seeing my power and such either think I'm insane letting people use beta power or they get suspicious and look closely and see the corners and realize what it is. I'd say its a great idea to keep costs down and still look nice. I also use raven black ultra pros. Besides being really nice sleeves, the black background does tend to hide the corners too so it does make it less obvious that they are CE. I take pride in my cube, I just haven't decided on what lands to use yet. I think they have to be foil to match the majority of the cube. Unhinged is nearing a cliche status for pimping, so I'm leaning toward using foil saga. Cost is a concern so none of this is happening at the moment because my cube sees such little action. http://www.cubedrafting.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=318 there is a pic there w/ them sleeves up, unfortunately that was taken w/ my old camera phone so its not as clear as it could be. The list is also a tad outdated. Just in the CE pic the swords, birds, demonic, regrowth, and geddon have all had their foil counterparts added. My cube also attempts to go by using nothing but english cards with no textless versions so older players that have been out, or newer players that missed seeing a card, can easily know what it does and make a draft choice w/o asking someone. Only non-english card left I believe is my korean diamond, I'm just waiting to get a deal on FTV and replace it. yah, I like talking about my cube, hah!

I'm in the middle of an 8-4 M11 draft. Just finished the first round. My opponent has out Chandra Nalaar and does the deal 10 damage to me and all my creautres. I cast safe passage and went on to win. Poor guy. He had countered a useless spell a turn earlier too.On a side note I haven't pulled a mythic in 5 straight drafts. Wish me luck the rest of the way!

it's borderline frustrating trolling all the forums and threads in here reading about people and their drafts and their fnm stories. There isn't a store that sells cards here within a six hour drive. Excluding wal mart. Basically i got me and a couple buddies that play so i get to play against the same decks every week. Or we have four person drafts, yippee. Thank goodness for edh i suppose.

MTGO! So my draft day gets better. Second round, first game I get out an early Juggernaut and cloak him for the win. Second game he quickly gets out an Acidic Slime, Howling Banishee, Grave Digger, Juggernaut and overwhelms me. Third game is pretty close, I get out a cloaked Cudgel Troll and a Roc Egg and have him down to 8, but he has me down too and has a bunch of creatures out. He attacks me and I block with my elf and egg (getting a bird). I have a safe passage, but plan to hold onto it until the next turn. Figure I can attack him twice with the troll and win. However, he has a fireball and I am forced to play my safe passage. Next turn I can deal him 7 damage (4 from Troll and 3 from the bird), but he will be at one but then he will win. I top deck an Armored Ascension and go onto win. Maybe the only card in the deck that would have saved me. Then agreed to a pre-game split for the final, won 6 packs and the point (on the coin flip).

That cube is sick! Me and my buddies are putting together a cube, but since we don't get to play that often and don't really have much time we are just using Evan Erwin's list to start it off. I figure we can change it the more we play. We are going to use proxies for all of the higer end cards, ($50+). I was looking at CE stuff, but I havent found anything that cheap and the CE duals look to be going for close to what the normal version is. If I had to choose between CE and Revised, I will take revised. All we care about it that the cards are real for the most part.

Post fliers around locally, and see if anyone else plays. Less than a year ago, I didn't think that we had more than 4 or 5 people anywhere near me that played, and almost all of my Magic was either against Nderwife or at the store an hour and a half away. Once a used video game store moved in and started trying to get Magic going, things really changed. We just got our 30th unique player to qualify for Core Level last Friday, and we haven't had a weekly tournament smaller than 12 people since we got sanctioned, averaging about 16 a week, which I expect to pick up after the summer. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. My playgroup has started a casual format called Set Wars. The concept is to build a 40 card singleton deck using only cards from your specific set (except for basics). I will be using Urza's Saga. I was just wondering what kinda deck/cards I should use for my first deck on sunday night? I was thinking about a G/W deck with Enchantress.
