Haha you can do it! I donated a ton of bulk commons/uncommons to my LGS. That helped out a ton.

Bring a Vintage deck, a Legacy deck, and a Modern deck. We can jam somewhere for a few hours.

Do you know where you are staying yet?

Heh, well my wife has a medical conference and we'd be flying there. I don't know where we'd be staying yet. Heh, we'll see if I really want to bring $20,000 worth - Vintage - of cards on a flight haha. Knowing my luck I'd get a TSA agent who has been really wanting to get into vintage and waiting for the right sucker to go through security.

I have yet to play a single EDH game. About 15 years ago I played in a highlander tournament. That's kind of close :-p

Haha. I don't have enough time/patience to play EDH. But sometimes I do play with friends if they have an extra deck.

My Legacy deck was foiled going to Eternal Weekend and back and it wasn't a problem.

Also had 2 sets of powers just in case my friends needed to borrow or a desperate person wanted to overpay.

1. Imagine what starter decks would have looked like back then.
2. Showcase as many "back in the day" cards as possible (Mahamoti, Vesuvan, Sengir, Serra, Force of Nature, etc.).
3. Provide nostalgia for the older players and show newer players what Magic used to be like.
4. Have the decks be as balanced as possible relative to each other. They need to each be good and have fun and powerful cards, but nothing over the top.

Each deck has 2x of its corresponding dual, and as there are 10 unique walls in Unlimited, each deck has at least 1 copy of an assigned Wall, because, Walls. And most importantly, we don't play with sleeves, because we didn't back then. Shuffle up those Seas, boy!

I have 8 of the 10 decks complete, just short a Tundra, Trop, and Braingeyser. Since quitting Standard again, I take them to FNM, and get a group of 4-8 together to play these. They're hugely popular and everyone has an awesome time with them. One guy double Dark-Ritted Turn 1 into a Sengir Vampire, only to have to it Control Magic'd away a few turns later. In another game, everyone yelled at a guy for not using his Icy Manipulator to turn off his Howling Mine. Apparently, he forgot how artifacts use to work. At least he used the Royal Assassin to good effect. Good times...

A few guys at the shop are trying to get me back into Vintage, so I suppose if one can casually look for A/B Power, I'm doing that.

Long term, trying to collect every old-frame foil. Have most of the pretty expensive ones: Gaea's Cradle, Grim Monolith, Onslaught fetches, Brainstorm, etc, though missing one rather scary one: Port.

Having 2 kids in daycare though kinda puts a damper on Magic spending money though.

This is GREAT!! Reminds me of when I first started to play back in 1993. I've been in and out of the game a few times and sad to say that I have sold off nearly everything each time but I did manage to hang onto my "Famous Movie Monster" deck. It's red and black and features Sengir Vampire, Vampire Bats, Lesser Werewolf, Frankenstein's Monster, Cyclopean Mummy and Scathe Zombies. It also has Lightning Bolts, Chain Lightning, Darkness and Terror to set the mood. I really love playing this deck and it's actually pretty good with Dark Rituals, Sol Ring and with Baron Sengir, Greater Werewolf, Krovikan Vampire and Arrogant Vampire as supporting characters. All old school!

Paul

Penny sleeves were definitively a thing back in at least unlimited. They just might not have been PVC free....

Penny sleeves, wow I forgot all about those and most people at that time thought it was sacrilegious to use them. I actually played in games where people actually ripped up Chaos Orb's and dropped them on the playing field just to try to touch as many cards as possible!!

Working towards 7% of all the Collector's edition/IE Jade Statue. Problem is I won't pay more than $2.50 each but my hoarding raised the price of the card worldwide.

I'll chime back in that I have completed all 10 Unlimited decks, woot! I'm sure I'll spend the next 10 years tweaking the power balance among them, but right now super happy with them. If anyone's in the area and wants to throw down like it's 1994, just let me know.

With that, I'm going to take a break from Magic projects for a bit. They have a tendency to get expensive.

uhhhgh.... Milwaukee....so many fake hipsters....

Check out the Polaris restaurant, on top of the Hyatt hotel in the downtown area. Last time I was there in like ...2008, they had excellent ribeye, and these awesome little salt-dishes with (6-8) types of salt, sea salt, black salt, hiawan sea salt (pink, it's pink! Bolton would approve,) and a few others! But that was 7 years ago, and they closed and reopnened, so I don't know whats going on there now.

But Milwaukee sucks.

Hey, not all of us in Milwaukee are hipsters.

Some of us are just normal, closeted nerds that live just outside the city limits.

If you like Blue's, you'll find Maxie's highly enjoyable as well. Great food/cocktails.

Ya, I'd been doing that but some cards I've been unwilling to pick up in case of a ban:
goryo's vengeance/shoal stuff
amulet of vigor/hivemind stuff

and some cards just b/c they are redic high:
jace, v

it should tell something to wotc that they've let prices get out of control when a standard card is too expensive to justify buying by someone who has 19 pieces of power and over 100 duals....

I have been working on putting together (mostly by trading locally) many of the popular legacy decks for people to borrow at my weekly/monthly tournaments. Up to 13 independent decks so far.
