A couple months ago I finished putting together some nostalgia decks. White with Serra Angels and White Knights, Black with Royal Assassins and Sengirs, Red with Shivans etc. Then play them against each other. Blue seems to be the strongest with the combination of Counterspell and Control Magic ruling most matches. Mono red burn with Ball Lightnings seems to have the best chance at defeating it or a Dark Ritualed Hypnotic Specter.

Still need 4 Sarcomancy for one of the Mono black aggro decks though.

That sounds similiar to what Jack did:

Sweet. Pretty similar. I don't use strip mines and I have a splattering of cards from Tempest Block as well.

I'm throwing together some nostalgia decks too. Modern Magic design just doesn't interest me anymore. I'm starting off with ProsBloom (Trade me some Legends Storm Seekers, ya mooks), I've got U/G Madness, and I'm building decks around Limited Resources, Fire Covenant/Binding Agony, and I'm likely to build Sligh and Ponza decks as well. I'll probably just keep on going with it.

Yeah, the plan is to just build whatever I think I'd have fun with. Necro, Counterpost, Turbo Stasis, you name it. I'm working on an old frames only format, and I'm tinkering around with what the B&R list should be. I'm honestly thinking just to start with the Legacy banned list and go from there. Old Magic design was so great, I think that a format like that would stay in decent enough flux, if you can prevent broken **** like Moxen + Tolarian Academy. There were so many cool decks back then, while decks now are just midrange goodstuff and bland.

I'm really starting to think with all these things popping up like Randy Buehler being such a proponent of Vintage, and this 93/94 format, that more people are getting sick of the current Magic design philosophy of making piles of ****, with a few busted cards for people to play the lottery with.

Also, all creatures all the time is ****ing booooooooooring, even if I do <3 me some Merfolk and Infect.

It's crazy, the difference between old timers, and players who have started more recently. I was playing ProsBloom against this kid the other day, and he was getting utterly irate at the turn I comboed off. I'm sorry you're used to durdling around with creatures, dude. Magic blows goats now, and this is how cool **** used to be. It probably blew his mind that he lost to a deck that had zero creatures in it. He couldn't even fathom the Winter Orb I showed him. It blew his mind. Kids these days, man.

I agree. Decks that do nothing and sit behind counterwalls or combo out using old undercosted cards to win instantly is the most fun way to play magical cards.

It's almost like it's called Magic: the Gathering and not Creatures: the Creaturesing, and two opposing wizards would do what it takes to spoil the other one's plans!

You know, I miss the good old days when only creatures played were Morphling and Mishra's Factory, almost nothing ever resolved except on an end step and even the counterspell deck tapping out meant nothing thanks to 4x force of will and 4x daze.

I just don't get why people don't want to go back to the good old days, eh? Remember how much fun it was when green was completely unplayable and white was a splash for STP and maybe geddon?

Those were the days...........

I'm a self-confessed lousy player of MtG when it comes to the more competitive formats. I've always been a more casual player, but I got into the game for the art and that is the main reason I still buy and trade. I've been a collector since Revised (I started about a week before The Dark released) and I still like to collect. I've got several sets finished over the years but here is where my current collections stand:

I've been mainly focusing on completing my foil Innistrad block (almost there!) as well as Portal and Portal Second age, foil Urza's Destiny and Legacy (got a ways to go on these), and - at a much lower priority - some of the older sets from Fallen Empires up till the Urza's Block (in various stages of completion).

My collection of foil Thorn Elementals and Arabian Rukh Eggs aren't huge, but I still add to them when I can.

I've got over 300 Memnites now though, mostly non-foil but also foil, foreign and full-frame versions. I add to that whenever I get the chance.

I have also collected angel cards since I first started the game. I've been trying to replace all my non-foil angels with foil versions and collect an English version from each release for each of the angels.

I'm always on the lookout for signed art proof cards too...I think I've got around 350-400 of them now, of various sets and rarities.

I tend not to try and collect a newer set unless it really captures my 'must have' bug...too many collections on the burner as it is.

do you just collect angels or things that makes angels or what? The 2008 lithuania or some country national champion was on facebook the other day saying he might sell his trophy which has a decree of justice sealed inside it which i thought was neat for angel collectors of which there are many

I just completed the Japanese phase of my Grim Lavamancer Global Playset

4 of each japanese version (m12 & torment, foil & non-foil)

http://imgur.com/YYCyzfm

with some extras with more on the way
http://imgur.com/vCQOato

and the korean playset of foil and non-foil
http://imgur.com/2XD5mgV

I have german pending

lots more pending but lots more to get

Here is what 148 Grim Lavamancers look like in a binder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFmlIKKCA5o

I have 16 more incoming putting me at 164 Grim Lavamancers.

I have tons extra but still have these gaps

Torment foil
2 T-Chinese
4 S-Chinese (1 incoming)
3 German (incoming)
4 Portuguese
4 French
3 Spanish (1 incoming)
4 Italian

Torment non-foil
2 T-Chinese
2 S-Chinese
3 German (incoming)
4 Spanish
1 Italian

M12 foil
3 T-Chinese
3 Russian
4 Portuguese
3 French
4 Spanish
4 Italian

M12 non-foil
4 T-Chinese
3 S-Chinese
4 Russian
4 German (incoming)
4 Portuguese
4 Spanish

So that's 69 I'm still missing from my goal and that's not even counting artist proofs.
Once I fill in those 69 gaps that'd be me at about 233 Grim Lavamancers and then hopefully I can get some more artist proofs.

THEN, maybe I'll loosen my Grim on some of my extras :-P

Look at MKM, you should find those relatively easy there. At least the European ones.

All-foiled modern GB elves is done.

Next step: starting trading away my edh/legacy stuff for modern staples and buying cheap modern staples deals for 6 months before I open my local 50% online / 50% IRL "modern-standard only" mtg store

I just realized you had replied...I must have missed this post when I read through it last.

My angel collection is anything with the creature type 'Angel', any card that produces Angel tokens, and angel tokens. I prefer to get a copy from each edition that an angel is printed in, but more of a priority is just getting one of each. A note on the tokens is that I do collect third party Angel Token cards but only printed ones(i.e. not just clear 'skins' stuck on a card or stickers) and not card alters.

I suspect that my budget wouldn't have afforded the trophy, though it would certainly be a nice addition to my collection.

Currently my collections are still the same as before, though I'm pretty close to foiling out my angels. I suspect that I'll collect the next Innistrad block in foil too though as Innistrad is one of my favorite sets for art ans storyline.

Last I saw the trophy hadn't gotten that many high offers but heck I dont even remember where it was posted now. If interested PM me what you would have paid for it and I can try to dig it up.

My buddy's birthday (Seraphim3577 on here) was last week and I got him FTV Angels. About a decade ago I remember getting him an alpha or beta Serra Angel...can't remember which one.

Thanks, but I'll probably pass on the trophy. I've mostly spent my current MtG balance on a box and a couple of Fat Packs from the new set so it would take me a while to save up for any sizable offer...that's the curse of having a mortgage and kids I guess

At the moment though I'd also have to say that I'd probably want to prioritize any cash I get on the two big angels I still need: Alpha Serra and Judge Exalted Angel. I also need a foil AVR Avacyn, Angel of Hope, but I've got one in my foil AVR set too so it's a little lower priority for me.

FTV Angels was pretty cool for an angel collector for sure. Happy birthday to your friend Seraphim3577 too!

I am hoarding all of the Dakra Mystics I can get. So far, I have well over 3000 but I'd like to get up over 10k.

Also doing the same with Honored Hierarchs. Have around 1000 regular ones and around 1500 foil promos.

No reason, I just love that these cards are so hated.
