Almost anything of decent value is on the reserved list and so many other cards were underpowered back then when compared to today's printings of cards. Aside from Swords to Plowshares white never had any decent single target removal for many years until Wing Shards which makes perfect sense of why they put a card like that into Iconic Masters. Tinder Wall and Elvish Spirit Guide are both great legacy cards not on the reserved list are more Iconic than many cards that were chosen for Iconic Masters. Balduvian Horde was another Iconic card in it's time. It was really the first time you had a 5/5 for 4 mana after Juzam Djinn. During that time many people wanted to trade their dual lands to get a set of Balduvian Horde.
That's because white either killed you with weenies or kept sweeping the board. White also had a lot of hate spells/creatures. As far as being limited before Mirrodin, whew! That would be a pile of stink if they held true to the reserved list. Someone would have to pay me to take their garbage out to the can.

Disagree there are definite iconic cards after Mirridion, for one you would leave out every walker, but even cards like sphinx's Rev, Bitterblossom, Blood Braid Elf, etc.. I think a lot would say were iconic in there time in the sun.

One of the biggest issues with trying to make Iconic Masters feel special is that so many of the cards you would consider "iconic" have already been reprinted in the other masters releases (modern and eternal). It's nice to see some staples still make it in, along with some of the clearly needed rarity downshifts on cards that are out-classed now. Would agree that the reserve list is probably the biggest hurdle though to Wizards making the set they probably want to. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. I'm most excited about many cards having brand new artwork for iconic masters. Aside from that these masters sets are starting to become glorified core sets.

Glorified core sets that keep prices under control.

I think we are getting too many reprint sets now, 2 in a year seems a bit much, plus with all the other product I bet sales start to lag on these.

I actually miss how it use to be only 2 expansions or 3 expansions would come out per year. It just seems that they are steam rolling set after set with new/old mechanics, turning old enchantment cards into walkers, planeswalkers everywhere, vehicles everywhere. It's just too overwhelming. I started at Mirrodin and loved playing Vintage and Legacy. Too bad they don't have any support for vintage tourneys anymore like they use to. My Oath and Grim Long decks have accrued about an inch of dust. I think wizard's marketing is killing the game with 5 or 6 sets coming out per year including modern/eternal masters or ftv set.

Standard and other new product is where the money is at for Wizards so they are going to keep pushing out as much new product as they can each year. For this year it was 4 expansion sets with planeswalker decks and bundle packs for each set, 2 masters sets, set of 4 commander decks, whatever the new duel deck was this year, archenemy nicol bolas, and FTV. At the minimum if you bought 1 box of every sealed card product that came out this year from an online store would run somewhat over $1000 but many of us buy multiple boxes of each set as you don't get everything you want from just opening 1 box of something.

Masters are just a way to get reprints out, without unbalancing standard/modern by putting them in a core set. It also gives wotc good avenues for limited as the general power level of Masters srafts and pools is higher, but everything is a bomb.
So, now we have a product that provides some anti-inflation, adds extra fun limited events, and gives stores and Wotc so much more money. Masters sets are fine, as long as they dont overprint them, or churn out too many in a period.

Any predictions for From the Vault: Transform? What do we have to choose from in this Innistrad/Dark Ascension, Shadows over Innstrad, Eldritch Moon, and Magic Origins for transform cards? Probably worth the MSRP alone if they include Jace, Vryn's Prodigy.

It wasn't worth $10 several years ago. I'm sure you could find other investment that have better and/or more consistent rates of return.

Star city had a couple hundred boxes of Iconic Masters for Black Friday at $150 that sold out before the afternoon was over. Value of the set is going to remain low for awhile due to the amount of Iconic Masters that has already been opened but from what I understand stores are not to be seeing anymore Iconic Masters coming in directly from Wizards.

Interesting. This makes me want to buy some more now. I thought they were going to do print runs like that of Modern Master 2017 for Iconic Masters.
