The weird thing is there's no actually hacking. Its just finding an account that uses an expired free email account.

I'm sure he can also be reported for breaking Terms and Services of X companies free email clients.

Problem with this is that it goes against the mail shipping of biohazards. I hope you are sending it in the appropriate sealed biohazard labeled packaging =)

Signing the guy up to adult websites is much safer =)

Sad :/

I've been personally ripped by him, so I will help spread the word.

He never returned my stuff. =/

I'll give the Ottawa police department a call again, and see if they can reopen the mail fraud case they never bothered investigating. I suggest others do the same, if you want anything done about it.

they usually have a case #, can't more people call in and reference that number stating that they've talked to other victims and want something done.

I've seen police and detectives don't really care for small $$$ theft. but IF enough people call in week after week, I believe they will finally do something. it's just a matter of how many people call in.

It seems everyone who traded with this person has sent their cards to an apartment address. It is very likely that he is no longer there and with no real name, it will be very difficult to track him down. Perhaps someone can call the landlord and request information on who is living or lived in that address during the time frame that these incidents took place?

Yes, it's an apartment address. He lives there, it's been confirmed. I have no idea what you mean by "no real name". His name is John Strickland, which was also confirmed. Someone did call the landlord, which is how all of this was confirmed.

After several emails from John the other night, he's informed me that he won't be back to MOTL. Yeah, we'll see how that goes.

Thanks,
Jazaray

Just noticed this thread. I, too, have been ripped by this guy. I didn't want to report it because he told me he'd send me a Thragtusk for me waiting so long. Then he never responded! I lost a lot of money to this guy, but when I went to report him all of our PM's had been pushed to the bottom and subsequently deleted. I'm happy others have voiced their stories as well.

FWIW, my file number, back when I filed for mail fraud, was 06-113128 (Ottawa PD).

does anybody knows someone that can hack (at a pro level), and get information from IP, mail or whatever so you can get real information from him (phone, address or real name). From there, its just a mtter of time to hire some motl canadian member and do a visit to this guy and put the things clear.

I would gladly send a buck for this deal.

Having someone go to this guys work or household is a bad idea. If you don't even know personal information, how would you know he isn't dangerous. I mean seriously it is just stupid and no amount of wrongs this guy has done is worth the risk of that. Keep calling the PO PO and let them do their job. They are paid for this.

Chime. Not to mention that fighting crime with crime isn't the most brilliant strategy, especially if you then call up the cops.

Why not post this guy on everything that is legit? twiiter, facebook, personal web pages. Everything! The more people know of him, the less damage he can do. Think bout it, how do u think he'll respond if theres a big ripper warning on starcitys home page? or tcgplayers home page? even salvation.

Imma call my 6' 300lb buddy in ottawa and get him to go to dudes house and take ALL his cards and send them to me so i can return what was stolen. Maybe bitch slap the guy a couple times. Seriously though. Some people need to learn the hard way

You have NO IDEA who this individual is. He could very well be dangerous. You don't know him. Aside from that, it's illegal to do what you're proposing. Violence is NEVER the answer.

Seriously, listen to yourself. "I'm gonna go and do illegal stuff to prove to him that doing illegal stuff is bad." Really?

And you think that your "Friend" is going to get the cards? What he'll get is a prison sentence, and the cards will be placed into evidence, or just given back to John. IF he even has them anymore.

I don't want to hear any more talk about going to beat him up. It's ridiculous.

Thanks,
Jazaray

Don't talk like a 12-year old idiot. Jaz is completely right: you have no bloody clue who or what this person is, and you'll just screw things up for everyone, you and your friend included. If someone gets hurt doing that, Strickland is off the hook for it because it was self-defence, and you get stuck with an assault charge. Even if you get away, you need to realize that while the police might not haul ass to investigate mail fraud, they sure will to investigate assault.

Besides, this guy's not some kid in a corner of his parents' house. He's been listed as a known telephone fraudster for years--even before he started ripping on MOTL. He's not just hanging on to the cards, he's reselling them on ebay, kijiji, LGSes, etc. And it's not just cards, it's money, too. How do you propose to get everyone's money back? Go through his wallet? Steal his credit card?

That's moronic. Don't do it. If it happens, I'm pointing the cops right in your direction. I know you're angry, but we have a legal system for a reason. Use it, and maybe our combined weight will suffice to finally get something done. I started the procedure six years ago. If everyone else chips in, you can finish it.

perhaps if all the trades went through a moderator, no one would need registered mail, and could just send (with the cards) a postage paid addressed envelope to the mod of that trade ... then the mod would know who owes, and could return the cards if the other end is a ripper.

Do you know how many trades MOTL facilitates? Mods don't have hours to process trades each day.

Plus, if they make a mistake (which is bound to happen sooner or later, we're all only human after all), they'd be exposed to being filed against for mail fraud for a simple accident. It'd put them at a huge risk.
Even waiving their responsibilities doesn't fully protect them in some circumstances that would come up with the number of trades they'd be moderating.
