nderdog Moderator	posted June 17, 2011 02:53 PM Getting excited for our commander launch party tomorrow, although it technically isn't a legit one. Due to lack of support from the store, we are just playing our own homemade commander decks and giving out the promos. I have 3 decks, although the one I have to loan out was just thrown together from extras and isn't a great deck, but better than someone not playing, and others are planning to have a deck or two to loan out as well. On the lack of support note, I'm starting to think about helping out. Since the store has repeatedly failed to get us product for launch parties and prereleases, as well as rarely stocking packs, is there a way for me to work with a distributor to get the product myself? I'm sure that wouldn't work for prereleases, but maybe everything else would work out. Has anyone done or tried something like this? __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! caquaa Member	posted June 17, 2011 03:13 PM I'm not sure exactly what you mean by they failed to get you support. Are you saying they don't have packs in stock? Wotc doesn't provide prize support beyond the oversized promos for this so any support would come from the store just purchasing booster boxes and charging an entry fee to cover their costs. Distributors need to sell to someone that has a brick and mortar store. You'd likely have to arrange something through the store but maybe if you're fronting the cash and handling the magic part they would allow you to order on their behalf or something. The next best option would be to get booster boxes online for ~$90 then use them as prize support but there wouldn't really be any room for profit to kick something to the store. If you get them from wotc directly I think they run $60-70, but you need to get all your premier store stuff worked out through wotc. All of these options have the store buying though. Wotc likes to control the product and make sure it isn't being shipped overseas and the likes.

As the TO, I have all of the WotC support that I need, but our last prerelease was NPH only, and the release was draft only of NPH because they could only spare a single box for us, and that was a day late and 3 hours after the rescheduled time. They didn't order any commander decks, so we can't have the proper event where everyone plays with the WotC precons. I'll ask about whether I could front the money, but that is a little risky as they have failed to come through on some preorders in the past, and I really don't want to be out the tournament and the cash both. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! helpmehelpyou Member	posted June 18, 2011 10:27 AM why isnt witch a tribe? and why are all the magic witches listed as wizards? or shamans? why not just let them be witches? if witches where to become a tribe what are some keywords or mechanics they might have? scry seems fitting. some could probly fly some could turn other creatures into stuff like pongify or the new m12 card "turn into frog" since this is "magic" after all, it seems like there should be alot more witches out there. and they seem to have alot of design room to work with.

Witch is probably being considered as a female version of a wizard so no need to change the creature type.

Think of "wizard" as shorthand for "arcane spellcaster."

I'd give it away, but I don't think even new players would want these cards as most of them are RV-Tempest junk.

nderdog Moderator	posted June 19, 2011 06:54 PM Well, time to disassemble the Commander deck, I think. I picked up one of the precons to use, since at yesterday's event, Nderwife and my decks got quite a few comments about the "insanely good" stuff like Gaea's Cradle, Umezawa's Jitte and Chameleon Colossus. I'm really glad I didn't try to build a really good deck and instead focused on one that would be fun or else we'd have been in the doghouse. A Defense of the Heart for a Primeval Titan and a Simic Sky Swallower was treated as an epic turning point of the game (I shudder to think what might have happened if I hadn't used some discretion and instead dropped Kozilek instead of the Titan) although in the end, it came down to everyone inexplicably ignoring the mono-Red deck dropping direct damage spells here and there until he had several dragons in play and no one else had any fliers left other than my Simic Sky Swallower. It was fun, though, and since there were 7 of us, everyone else walked away with 3 promo Commanders to build around, and between Nderwife and I, we walked away with one of each. Now to teach them that old cards aren't to be feared, and explain why the Kaervek the Merciless commander was a much bigger threat than a Chameleon Colossus when I rarely had more than 4 untapped lands. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here!
