Ah, yes those are good SB suggestions. I have none of them because i haven't actually put any effort into the deck. I happen to have City of Solitudes and Dense Canopies, haha.Ian, have you heard of B-R-E-A-D?
I can't even remember all five letters but the first three are bombs-removal-evasion. I guess the other two are accel and damage? I don't know.
But the basic principle on this is priority of each of those kinds of cards. You need bombs more than removal, removal more than evasion, etc.

My GF thinks magic is an obsession, I told her it's just a hobby. she doesn't understand.

well, I only play on Fridays before FNM and some times on Sundays, we get together for about 5 hrs. I hardly consider that an obsession.

I think the collecting part is what can become an obsession pretty fast. Least it feels that way some times when I look at the 30 binders on the custom shelves I made for my cards and the pile of binders stacked up on the floor next to the shelves. __________________

I'm not in denial about my obsession. A couple weeks ago when my wife was at her training in Seattle, one of her classmates and her got into a "who's husband is a bigger geek" contest, which I proudly won when Nderwife countered a "my husband played Magic" with "my husband currently runs the local Magic events".  I do have someone else that I'm working to get made a TO so that I can get some time off and not have to deal with the issues that have come up lately with missing promos and lack of product for releases and all of that good stuff. Next on my list, build a Commander deck. I have no ideas on this one, but hope to be able to use some of my old cards that I have floating around that never get any use. __________________

I often see/hear people bring up "rosette printing patterns" during the discussion of legitimate/counterfeit magic cards. Does anyone have a good example of what they look like up close and what fake cards lacking them look like? My google fu seems to be failing.

Finished draft last night; 5 people showed up, multiplayer planechase, archemy and even a game of emperor.cards of note, and rares and foils, and the third box out of about a dozen I've opened in my life, then I've been happy with with. Foils:
Conversion Chamber (ewww...)
Slag Fiend (yay...oh right..ewww... combotastic!)
Vault Skirge (second favorite common from set!)
Viridian Harvest (most useless card I can open in a draft.)
Whipflare (into valakut.dec u go!)
Rotten Hystrix (ugly card, even in foil.)
Mycosynth Wellspring (into 5-color deck u go!) Rares:
Surgical Extraction (the three uncommons from this pack were amazing, Beast Within, Deceiver Exarch and Despise)
Hex Parasite (1 down, 6 to go)
Batterskull (This thing was not nice to my life total... lost my first two games to this thing.)
Torpor Orb (my pool...had this rare...)
2x Sword of War and Peace (John went happy with this card...I made him clean up his mess> ) The other sword, never saw play, but I think David or Brendon had it.
Lashwrithe (yay! need only two more now!)
Phyrexian Obliterator (weeeee!!!!! I got this and went monoblack...and lost)
2x Life's Finale (EDH happy, and thats about it.)
Birthind Pod (EDH!)

Don't bother buy one of wizards.

Ah, that's all i know about drafting. I don't have any set rules and i really only learned from drafting (which i've only done maybe a grand total of 15 times in my life).
One thing i like to look at is the best card from the pack, regardless of color, for the first few packs. You have to know how to realize when you are no longer getting passed good stuff and to move on to another color, but it seems to help me. The best 23 cards split amongst 5 colors still isn't going to be any good so you have to be willing to 6 or so of the best from 2 colors. Unless it's really really really good then you probably should hate pick it. Yea, i was totally ninja'd on the thread thing by a wide margin. I take a long time to type. Oops. Sorry MM quote:

But what's wrong with building one from scratch out of your own collection, in whatever colors you please? Building is half the fun! And the Commanders only have the enemy color combos so if you don't like them you are SOL... Ring..... bad joke.

Crafting a good EDH deck takes considerable level of skill and knowledge, and also improves overall knowledge and skill in playing Magic.
Precons ARE BAD for skills.
