Here's the list of the TWENTY cards I'm giving away as prizes in honor of the 20th round of the game:

Sensei's Divining Top
FOIL Preordain
FOIL Preordain
FOIL Ponder (M10)
FOIL Ponder (M10)
FOIL Dissipate
FOIL Student of Warfare
FOIL Mana Leak (9th)
FOIL Coatal Tower (INV)
FOIL Arcane Sanctum
FOIL Qasali Pridemage
Counterbalance
Glacial Fortress (M10)
Forest (Unhinged)
Island (Unglued)
FOIL Staggershock
FOIL Burst Lightning
FOIL Arc Trail
FOIL Lightning Bolt (M10)
FOIL Duress (M10)

As promised, even if you are the *worst* deckbuilder or have no idea how to play the game, I will be still giving you many, many other chances to win free cards with your decks.

There will be TWENTY different achievements that you can try to "unlock" with your decks. Some of them will sound familiar (highest number of points), some of them will be very unfamiliar (most creative, as determined by me), and some play off of a very new rule...

For the veterans and the long-time lurkers, I'm offering a one-shot twist that will be huge and unseen by the tournament in the months it has been running:

For the first time ever, you will be entering TWO DECKS.

Yes.

TWO.

DECKS.

Due to the unprecedented nature of this change, I will be extending the submission deadline to August 4 and I will allow you at any time before the tournament starts to TWICE make changes to your deck (I will obviously be exempt from this rule).

Each deck will be scored separately, although you will not score them against each other. For example, my decks will be number 1A and 1B.

Here's how it might look for four people entering:

code:

## 1A 1B 2A 2B 3A 3B 4A 4B TOTAL
1A XX XX 06 03 02 02 00 00 13
1B XX XX 03 03 00 00 06 02 14
2A 00 03 XX XX 06 06 02 02 19
2B 03 03 XX XX 06 04 03 03 22
3A 02 06 00 00 XX XX 06 03 17
3B 02 06 00 01 XX XX 03 06 18
4A 06 00 02 03 00 03 XX XX 14
4B 06 02 02 03 03 00 XX XX 16

In this case, player #2 would be the winner and his second deck would win the tournament.

However, that's just the normal rules and just adds to the total number of victories.

For reference, here's the other standard rules:

quote:
THE RULES:

5-Card Blind (5CB) is a very unique game.
The rules are as follows:
* Your deck is composed of 5 cards, all of which start in your hand.
* You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
* Random effects always go against the owner of the card.
* You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
* You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
* You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
* For each win, you score 3.
* For each draw, you score 1.
* For each loss, you get nothing.
* A subgame played with the card Shahrazad where neither player has any means to win the subgame will result in an incomplete game and both players will receive ZERO points for that game, since the main game cannot be resumed. Neither player loses or draws, so neither player earns any points.
* Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!
Remember, it is important for your deck to include a way to cast your cards! (Lands, artifact mana, pitch cards, etc.)
If you want to play PM me or send me an e-mail in this format:
Subject should include "Vanishing 5-Card Blind" (Just click on the little PM icon above my post and it should work out that way.)
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3
Card #4
Card #5
Be sure you really are happy with your deck before you submit. Once you send in a deck, there is no changing it except in the case of an illegal entry.
Please make every effort to spell your card names correctly. It makes it easier for everyone. Thanks.
The "Vanishing" part is the twist. To start off with, only Unglued, Unhinged and Ante cards are banned. After each round, the 5 cards in the winning deck plus any cards in more than 1/3 of the decks played will be banned for all future rounds.

Any lands that only provide mana are exempted from the banning rules. Exceptions may be made for lands which are deemed too powerful for the environment such as Mishra's Workshop and Tolarian Academy.

NO MISE DECKS!

Any deck submitted MUST have some win condition. Any deck that can do no better than a draw against any possible deck will be rejected. A deck that can't win any game is mathematically eliminated from winning the round, and thus would just be taking a chance to win away from someone who could actually have a shot.

ALL players will assist in judging. The way this will work is that after the submission period is over, After all decks are revealed, judge your own deck against every other deck (going first and going second). Post your findings here in this thread. They will be reviewed by everyone for accuracy. Once a winner is determined the winners deck will be added to the banned list and the next round will begin. Repeated failure to do your own scoring will result in suspensions!

I am sure to win a prize! I'm going to laugh my ass off if either of my decks win a game, and you're going to feel like a failure if you lose to my Johnny deck. And you should.

having 20 players would be a good since there are 20 prizes (even if some people get more then 1)

also saw this in the rules

"Any lands that only provide mana are exempted from the banning rules."

Mishra's Workshop only produces mana.?

deck submitted.

That's the point he's making. There's a rule that says lands that only make mana are exempt from banning, but Workshop and Academy are on the ban list.

It would seem reasonable to conclude, given that this is the case, that when the list clashes with the baseline rules, the list wins. Considering the fact that while yak likely cuts and pastes the baseline rules, he personally updates the list each time it is posted, it only makes sense that workshop and academy are indeed banned, and therefore the baseline rule is either outdated or imprecisely worded and actually means to suggest that basic and dual lands that do nothing but tap to produce a single unit of mana are exempt from any bannings (give or take a few deviations from that criteria, a range which academy and workshop clearly are not part of).

I'm not arguing that they're banned, that point is clear. He updates the list each time, if they're on the list then they are intended to be on the list. The rule could be reworded though, I actually had the same though earlier this week when I was brewing up my deck.

We actually covered this in an earlier iteration of V5CB, but it boils down to Workshop being too broken (turn 1 trinisphere, whatnot), to be NOT banned.

I will be submitting my decks extra late so I can get more time to think about it. Aluren.dec hasn't worked out too well for me- maybe I'll just gun for one of the achievements. XD

THis always comes up. Workshop is banned because It's too good.

There was a time where workshop was not banned, but The meta degenerated into decks with workshops, and decks without workshops. To the point where to win, you'd have to have a workshop, or have an antiworkshop Deck that lost to everythign else.

Since the meta was an unhealthy one, Workshop had to be banned.

As you can see, Ancient Tomb and city of traitors make more than 1 mana, but these lands are closer to being fair so they won't get banned. and academy is pretty much the same deal.
