Sorry, I just don't understand how mailing someone an envelope full of glitter is a dangerous act.

Uhh...did you actually read the article? It was about committing acts of vandalism and destroying computer equipment and other electronics willfully. This isn't remotely the same thing as what was suggested. I'm 99.9% sure that the actual illegal conversation was deleted by Slinga.

Which is what confused me because I thought he was talking about all the bitching about MOTL.

No, serveral members were discussing the possibility of sending ricin, and hence those posts were deleted.

Right, because at that point you start heading into "weapons of mass destruction" and "making terroristic threats" territory.

some newb, who will remain nameless for now (I'm sure he'll make his presence known soon enough), just told me that my list would be easier to navigate if it was in chronological order by set and then alphabetized. smh

And now for something completely different:

For about a decade now I've organised a local pub quiz every 4 months. The idea is simple, you start with a picture round (could be anything), add in 6 question rounds of 10 random questions each, add in a music round of 15 music fragments and basically you have a quiz. Last saturday was our xth time and we had a full house (max 16 teams of 4 people each).

Now the thing is, we throw-in another different round or 2 in there each quiz, for instance:

-Logo round (approx. 20-25 logos)
-Link round (for instance, 10 countries noted A-K and 10 currencies noted 1-10, shuffle them up and they have to link the correct ones together)
-Back to school round (you get 10 questions that you would have had at some point during your elementary school, junior high, etc.)
-Sound fragments (10 or 15 fragments of something, I add in a question that they have to answer. Like a music round, only then with sounds)

Etc. Now the thing is, we want to do something new next time. Anyone have any good ideas?

A good questionround has no emphasis on any subject and contains no guesswork (i.e. in meters, how high is Mt. Everest?).

Things I've thought about:

-Adding one joker to each team. They can enter the joker only once, ensuring double points that round (or question sort). But, as a general question round doesn't have an emphasis, what would be a strategic way of implementing a joker? Maybe they can choose a category up front and the joker would be viable for the whole quiz, but only for that category of questions?

-Using teamcaptains. We've done this before, having a special teamcaptain round, but as this is meant to be a group-thing this doesn't fit thematically. Maybe someone can think of another way of using this?

etc, I'm sure there are good ideas I haven't thought of, so hopefully you know of something.

A theme quiz is out of the questions by the way. It's fun for those who have a lot of knowledge on the subject, but not so much for others. Theme questions rounds is tough. As we generally have 5-6 question rounds you will always have people/groups that don't know much about those subjects.

Thanks for any input!

How about a round of spelling?

Or perhaps something with a little action like each player on the team throws 3 darts at a board and the higher the total team score the more points awarded?

Discovered this morning that someone got into our cars last night, during the brief period the garage was open after I got home from work. The only thing stolen was my 10-year-old iPod, which sucks because we use it on longer trips to keep the kids happy and to not have to carry around a few hundred CDs.

The only silver lining is that I do have the serial number and filed a police report, so they will get nailed if they try to pawn it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

We usually incorporate spelling within the 'back to school' round, but it could be something to create a whole round around it. You will need 10 semi-hard words to spell though. Something like 'Nevinyrral's Disc' which almost everybody spells incorrectly

You gave me an idea that we could do a whole School quiz, and each round would have a subject. That borders on a theme quiz, but I could look into it.

An active part of the quiz sounds like fun, but I suppose that takes too much time. That would be 192 darts to throw without questions being asked, plus the randomness can be killing. There are also a few darts players amongst us making it unfair. But we could do something like 'if the total score is 60 or greater of your team, you get a bonus question in category x which is worth 3 points'. Or something.

OO I didn't realize how many people took part. You could have each person throw only 1 dart and give points based on the team's total score. This cuts the amount of darts thrown down to 64 instead of 192, lol.

For those who are regular dart players and have an increased amount of skill you could introduce a handicap for them. Something like they throw with their off hand or something. This could add some comedy. You should see me trying to throw with my off hand ;p

This got me thinking, we could do a geography picture round like so:

1. (showing Eiffeltower) 2. (showing Golden Gate Bridge) 3. (showing Machu Pichu)
then, as a bonus, you should guess the distance between each landmark. Team closest gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2, etc.
Landmarks could be other things, like national dishes (Haggis, pizza, Beijing duck) or whatever.

Yeah I know what you mean, I can't throw with left either .
Still, it's a knowledge quiz, so the dart-addon would be a random addition. But it got me thinking, maybe we could do something with stealing points from other teams. Like each team gets a question or 2, then chooses an opposing team. If the answer is correct, they get a point from the chosen team. Otherwise, the chosen team gets one from them.

Ooh I like this, adding some interaction between them. That would be great!

Keep bringing me thoughts, thanks guys so far!

Aether...I'm now sure if it would be too difficult or obscure but it doesn't hurt to make suggestions:

Along the lines of the landmarks thing how about something with flags? Perhaps id'ing countries flags or something along that line.

That's a great suggestion . We've done that years ago, I guess it is about time we did a new one.

On that subject, do you know which 2 countries have their country outline on their flags? (1 is pretty new, and hard to guess)

LOL I haven't a clue. Unlike Sheldon Cooper I'm not into vexilology. I suppose I could google that but it would be cheating .

It's all about fair play

It's Cyprus and Kosovo. Honestly, I didn't know the flag of Kosovo, but Cyprus was an easy one. I'm no Sheldon Cooper but I have some flag knowledge. My specialty is geography. Mainly capitals and such. Even those of the States, though I can't tell all of them anymore.
