...great book, you nee to read the entire "Vampire Chronicles", I haven't had a chance to start on the "New Vampire Chronicles" yet...I have been spinning my wheels in the rut Anne Rice dubbed "Violin"...I'm about to give up. I'm going this week to get the "Dark Elf Trilogy" by R.A. Salvatore, I've read "Icewindale Trilogy" and "Legacy of the Drow"...think I might go ahead and get "A Thousand Orcs" first...all by Salvatore, and all fantastic...

Just finished seven or so books. So, now I'm left with a paltry two to finish.

Erik Durschmeid (spelling?) - The Hinges of Battle (nearly done)

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. - Mother Night (nearly done as well)

I LOVE reading ten or so books at once. In fact, 'tis what I almost invariably wind up doing.

I suppose I could always add in innumerable anthologies of poetry, which I peruse at my leisure every day. But, then again, they don't quite count, I don't think.

I'm reading bits of Dante's Inferno again. It's so confusing sometimes.

Those don't sound like Calvin and Hobbes books.

I keep hearing that, but fantasy usually fails to excite me. Just how brilliant are we talking?

that's probably because you need to get into the story over and over again. Just like Discworld though: as soon as you pick up any random book, you learn more and more about it as you go.
But that is amazingly brilliant if you can write like that: 27 seperate stories based on one incredibly moronic but hilarious planet which does not require any knowledge about it whatsoever, since he keeps explaining things over and over.

I dunno about Jordan though.

Discworld rules. I think I have to go back and read a few of those books again.

I promise, once you read his first book in the wheel of times series you will want to read the all. I am starting Book 1 over again because it was that good. You have to get into it to notice all of the little things in the background.

All lies. All of it. I am working on book ten right now, but that is only because I started the series and I can't stop in the middle of something. If you want a fantasy soap-opera loaded with made-up words and suffocating amounts of detail, Jordan is for you. If you want fantasy/scifi that is written well and will inspire thought, read the Dune trilogy or the New Sun series.

I can heartily recommend The Truth-- but then again, I don't dislike any Pratchett book so far

I just finished a book by Youp van 't Hek. Goddamnit that guy is funny

The Elegant Universe, Neuromancer, Evasion, the Hydrogen Economy, Hideaway

Speaking of Dean Koontz, I just finished Dark Rivers of the Heart and that is a FANTASTIC book, probably the best book ive ever read, and Ive read alot.
