I agree with you completely, the ending is a little lackluster. Mostly what I found cool about the book was reading every single little thought that crossed into this serial killer's mind. I really enjoyed how he'd describe the impeccability of his own appearance in great detail and then proceed to tear apart the way his co-workers dress and act

"Playmates of the Caribbean."

Also, "Paradise Regained." <--- Not really a book, but it is a poem that is inside of a book.

Arg... I love Tolkien but man is that hard to read. It hurts your head just trying to keep all the names straight (and sounding them out in your head).

Right now I've actually gotten into comic books (unavoidable since I was working all summer at my card shop). Uncanny X-Men is actually very well written and is still cool too! The art is better than I've ever seen it in a comic book. (I recommend it, best $2.25 you'll spend).

Soon I'll be reading: Nickel and Dimed: On (not) Getting By In America (for school), and hope to begin Dune.

So, I was pondering. Can there be an 'Opposite Day'? No, no there can't. Why? It could never be declared opposite Day. Assuming you were telling the truth and it was, it wouldn't be. If you were lying, it would not be opposite day. Oh, what I wouldn't have given for this information 7 years ago.

It's mindboggling. I think the author took 20 big words per paragraph and shuffled them up with combination words (and, including, also, etc) and conclusion words (thus, therefore, so, in conclusion, in result, etc) while he was on the phone chatting with his girlfriend in Kentucky.

I agree it's hard to remember each name, but the family trees at the end is very useful for this. Also, I have the map of Belerian (and the lands to the north), that helps for setting the locations. The map is available in the book, however it's harder to read given its size. Ever tried reading the full version of Three Kingdoms? That will give you ten times the headaches you can get from The Silmarillon.

It's for everyone, although it's very different than american sci-fi. The context is more cultural and less lightsaber-oriented

All mass comm books are like that. I was ready to start shooting people after four years of that stuff.

Currently re-reading: Dragon Lance Chronicles (almost done and unsure what to read next)

If you can find them try: The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny, but only the first five (the second five blew donkey nuts).
