think they're just playing catch up to the price hike. I got one a few weeks back and was checking out ebay for the trade w/ a friend and we both agreed on $30, but figured might as well double check.... ouch. Of course when I traded my onslaught foil windswept heath we went w/ $30 and didn't double check that one. I'm bad at this I think...

I'm not gonna back to read the article again, but i think Matignon was given the godbook because he is a writer. And it helps him write about how cool NPH is (without giving the spoilers) because that helps publicity. Mutual benefit. I don't think they give out spoilers for anyone to playtest and get a head start.

This definitely hurts sales. I usually get a little excited when I check mtgdaily in the morning to see what two news are previewed and even if they are not the most exciting cards, I still think about them on and off through out the day. However, when the entire thing is spoiled all at once, I only remember the good ones and even though pre-release is still another week or so away, I am not at all excited about the set. I normally pre-order a couple playsets of cards that I think would be cool to have, but for this set, I am just not ordering anything. There are cards that I think are gonna be cool, but I am just not ordering them. Because wizards always spoil the "cool/good" cards early, I know people that would buy boxes based on the hype and always think that the rest of the set is going to be just as good as spoiled cards then goes and pre-order boxes. Now that the entire set is spoiled at once, they will not be buying anything on hype or speculation. If I am in charge of wizards, I would be handing out some seriuos as skicking.

What I was getting at wasn't that they gave him the godbook to get a lead on playtesting, just that there's a conflict of interest in giving the whole set to a magazine editor/creator/or whatever he is who just also happens to be an active professional player. I don't see why in the case of Lotus Noir they couldn't be given the textual information on the cards they want them to spoil/print/talk about. They don't give godbooks to online writers (as far as I know) who do just fine extrapolating uses and benefits of single cards for a week or two before more of the set is known. Also, I don't necessarily think the issue of the early leak is one of lost sales but more of lost interest and traffic. A bad set spoiled early is still a bad set (not that NPH is). People won't buy crud unless they absolutely have to. A good set spoiled early is still a good set and people will buy it because they want to. As other people have pointed out, the issue is one of lost web traffic to the main site for spoiler articles and to all the satellite sites who can rely on spoiler season for a small bump in hits. A quick example that I vaguely remember (Don't recall which set but either Shards of Zendikar block) was when a number of smaller sites were given 5 or 6 cards to spoil at midnight and one of the sites didn't follow suit and posted them a few hours early. Everyone went there in a bum rush to see the cards and by the time the other sites followed suit within the restrictions given to them anyone who wanted to see them had already seen them and didn't bother to check them out.

Also since the set is completely spoiled you don't have to sift through the two weeks of steamed crap Wizards writes just to see cards. __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 85th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com

You may not like this, but the fact is it is there duty to slowly release information in order to excite interest. Do you understand how a bidness works? Same goes with the movie industry and teasers/trailers. They don't just go "HEY see our movie, it comes out on the 25th" __________________ Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore"

That was awesome. My 10 year old son has more sense, maturity, and Magic knowledge than was on general display in that thread.

Congrats. I wouldn't start them on a cube until they're at least 8. Start off with a Goblin deck at about 7 and they'll be in good shape and learn the timing rules.

my wife insists i teach him some magic lingo as early as possible.(say two year old) like "show and tell -Emrakul, gg?"but i agree, around first grade, is probably a good time to begin. my kid will have to speak english anyway - this could be a teaching opportunity.

I'm sorry that having a little fun with the language apparently means I'm illiterate. It's hilarious how you all come out of the woodwork just to be douche bags. Their there they're. Sorry that, in a quick post, I didn't notice I screwed up my choice. I'll make sure I get everything approved by my editor next time. Edit : quote: Originally posted by Havoc Demon: No ****. You had to edit your post for that? You must be kinda slow. __________________ Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore"

Played MTG with my brother visiting from across the sea.... painful experience trying to be a bad enough player for him to have a chance in hell. He's hellbent on making a BAD gelectrode deck good..and I'm not going to help him do it.__________________ Bargain is not to powerful for EDH, EDH is to weak for Bargain!
