My group frowns on proxies though, especially for cards worth more than $10 (unless you own a copy that's just in a different deck). Part of the draw to EDH is to be able to have a casual deck to pull out when you go to events and you can't expect everyone in a random pick-up game to be cool with proxies. The examples you offer of cards that are pricey but allowed don't stick either. Duals, crypt, fetches...a mox is worth at least 5-6x what those go for. The term casual does not necessarily mean cheap. I don't play competitive anymore, but I still am willing to spend some cash on good cards that can be used in a variety of decks. I'd draw the line though at dropping a car payment on a mana rock. For some casual players I know who don't have a kid or mortgage payment, they would not have such reservations. Stuff like Workshop, Bazaar, Moat and random money P3K cards...most of those are very narrow and are built around. You can't just put them in any EDH deck. If LoA or moxen were legal, most people would want to run them and suddenly you have an even bigger arms race going on. Throwing a meta out of balance I admit is a weaker point. The real grounds for that is if you're gaming at the LGS and random n00b watching sees a table full of $300 cards, there's a good chance they're going to walk away with the perception that EDH is too rich for me to even think about and will not give it a try.
I disagree on the "narrow P3k" cards, what deck can't they be put into.

I'm not saying decks would not be able to use them. I'm saying they either have a very specific use that keeps them from being an "auto include" or they repeat an effect that players already have several cheaper alternatives available. Imperial Recruiter springs to mind as a $$ card that pretty much needs to be built around or requires having enough good targets. Decks can run fine without it and it's far from broken in the format. Capture is just another Time Walk effect and decks have multiple other options to run before digging that deep. Ravages of War is just Armageddon #2, which is already a card many decks avoid running because of an aversion to mass LD many groups have. The decks that do run geddon effects are built to take advantage of them. Xiahou requires some effort to build around him before he gets busted. I will admit, he's probably the one card from the set that I would actually consider buying. Imperial Seal is the one card from the set that I think more people would want to run if it was available. It's a decent tutor, but probably only about #3/4 on the list of black tutors. I've tested with it before and never felt it added enough to justify the price. Especially when there are plenty of other tutors available to pick from. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!

Lol. I look forward to his article detailing this.

Totally random question...if they did allow Moxes in EDH would I be able to use a Mox Jet in a Rafiq deck since it says "Tap to add 1 black mana" instead of using the actual black mana skull symbol so it doesn't really violate the color identity thing. I'm assuming the oracle text on them uses the appropriate mana symbol though.

The oracle does use the symbol.

Truth be told, some people go bonkers to own power. I've seen some crazy, crazy deals when someone overtraded like crazy just to pry a mox off of someone. __________________ #2 in posts from British Columbia!Got any Portuguese Foils? Post on my list or email me at valter.cid@gmail.com !

It was so much easier back in the day being the only floor dealer at events...the new ones are still just terrible but it makes the fish more aware and harder to deal with

Excel/MTG question:Is there anyway to either take an existing spreadsheet of cards, or make a new spreadsheet and have it take the card name from one column, match it against the MOTL price guide, and report back the value? I know I can't be the only one that's thought of this. __________________ The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing.

You can use the pipe-delimited format and import it to excel, but that's only one baby step compared to what you'd need.

I am going to give out TWENTY free Magic cards as prizes for Vanishing 5-Card Blind Tournament, Round 20. Even if you are the worst deck builder ever, there are many, many, many chances for you to win. I'll post details later tonight. __________________ There are two rules for success: 1. Here is one argument for the legality of Sol Ring and Mana Crypt as opposed to the Moxes:Every deck can be Sol Ring and Mana Crypt but only multicolor decks can play more than one Mox and Karn none at all. Btw, the moxes don't ramp as fast as Sol Ring, but imo they're better than Sol Ring because they provide colored mana and allow for even more insane plays when you topdeck them early as opposed to topdecking a Sol Ring turn 2 or 3. Turn 1 Rofellos or Channel (when they were legal)?

I was wondering when you were going to post V5CB round 20! I brewed up a decklist last week that I can't wait to try out

Meh, if they were ALL signed, it would be interesting. If it were really that easy to get the rest signed, the seller would have done it already.__________________ Looking for misprinted Commander decks. Got one? Talk to me.

Do you know how many different artists did cards for the Alpha/Beta set?
