I saw this auction, and I felt utterly depressed. Apparently, all it takes is writing alpha/beta on a box with a marker, and you instantly get an additional $300. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAGIC-GATHERING-MTG-CARD-COLLECTION-OVER-3200-ESTATE-LOT-NR-LOW-START-/251037250339?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a72fc7323

I thought the 1993 date should have been the tip-off that it's a scam.

Doubt its a scam. probably legit. also doubt there is anything worthwhile in there.Ive seen players that put such cards into binders many times. usually the 'valuable' cards are in the worse condition tucked away somewhere in the back. probably not worth more than fifty imo

Q: Can you add a few pictures of the cards in the boxes labeled Alpha/Beta? ThanksA: I've had alot of emails concerning the white boxes, in hindsight I probaby should have taken some images of those stacks, but its easier for me now to list the lot as is, images as per the auction existing and let the bidders decide the final price. Hope that helps and I won't email any other bidders additional pics either for your piece of mind to be 100% fair to a bidding.

That QA response is all the proof you need this is a scam. Will still probably sell for over $500. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

The cards in the Alpha and Beta boxes are really clean on the edges. They are showing nothing but totally crap cards in the binder. Why the hell would you leave the cards in that old crap box? This entire listing is bogus.

Does someone have the link of the "how to" website on these auctions? It's basically take a bunch of crap, write alpha/beta/unlimited on a few boxes and show like 2 or 3 decent cards. Say you know nothing about the game, estate sale purchase or the kid moved out and left these behind. This is such a copy of that how-to guide. It's like word for word.

The buyer can try but it probably won't work. It is "as described"

But there's a refund policy for this. So can't the buyer just return it if it's a letdown?

Best case scenario for you if the cards are ****:You ask for a refund, she gives it, you pay shipping twice, keep nothing, she probably ends up expecting/getting good feedback for being okay with the refund since she never promised there would be good money in there. She now has the cards to relist again. Worst case scenario for you if the cards are ****: You ask for a refund, she refuses because you got exactly what you paid for: "A big pile of magic cards" eBay almost certainly supports this. You're stuck with your crap, and a negative experience.

Same guy with about 6 different usernames, showing the same 4 fake black lotus cards. It's amazing how stuff like this happens and how we all pay for it with the high Ebay and paypal fees. All in all, that guy may have scammed over 25k from stupid Ebayers.

Like they say. A fool and his money is soon parted. These pop up all the time, doubtful that any of them are really valuable during this day and age.

That auction is hilarious. Like one rare in the entire binder and its terrible. And basic lands in a binder.Guaranteed the "alpha/beta" box has crap in it. And it sold for $905. So even if the box has 300 beta crap commons the winner loses. A lot of the boxes I use for storage came from a friend in like 2004 and are labeled various things. It's very odd that people think that boxes labeled as something means what's inside is valuable. Also it's odd the guy took so many pictures of the binder and none of the "alpha/beta" box. He clearly knows he's misleading people.

There are much worse scams out there, involving greater sum of money or even worse fate. 1 girl I personally knew was conned by her high school senior into being a hooker at the age of 17!! She escaped eventually but got scarred for life. Losing a few hundred bucks is a bad experience, but take it as a lesson learnt. Afterall, there are more expensive life lessons out there. 1 secondary thought. The ebay seller must have spent quite a bit of time arranging those cards into those albums. Why don't he use the time to do other meaningful work that an net him some money instead of resorting to such unsavory ways?

He has an auction for "MTG ARABIAN NIGHTS SEALED BOX 36 PACKS" that ended $2600. Pretty sure the buyer got a hell of a bargain because I remember AN has 60 booster packs in a box. $45/pack is definitely downright cheap!
