Shards and Guild names have a place when those blocks are in standard, but it annoys me in eternal formats. I have zero problems with using color initials at any time.

Initials are fine if you're writing an article or reading about it in one, but how do you refer to a deck when speaking to someone. Hey, do you have any tips for my Legacy RGB deck? Hey, do you have any tips for my Legacy Red, Green, Black, deck? Hey, do you have any tips for my Legacy Jund deck?

When speaking I say each color name - it's the same number of syllables. When writing it down I use the initials because it saves time and space. That's probably the same reason why many people use terms like "Jund" when speaking about decks. It saves time when saying the name. The problem is not everybody knows what the shards are or what colors each shard is - same with the Ravnica guilds. I went through a very confusing time when I came back to the game during Innistrad (last playing during Kamigawa) and I'd rather spare myself and others the necessity of knowing what an arbitrary five year old name means. Calling a deck "Grixis", has less meaning for me than calling it "Crosis" (as some people did back in the day) because I wasn't playing during the time when Grixis was a concept.

Same, about the shards. Seriously, want to punch these people in the temple. Esper tokens? When did Esper have anything to do with spirits, or Naya with any creature in that deck besides Emissary? It's kind of a huge pet peeve for me. Abbreviating the colors is fine in writing, but not when people seriously say "i'm playing rug delver". __________________ Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

So you wouldn't have any idea what "Ghost Dad", "Boat Brew" or "Pickles" mean either. Decks get names, some descriptive and some not. If you don't know what it is, you can look it up really easily. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."<@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted <@Anusien> Pretty sure New Zealanders are the sheep shaggers <KIP_NZ> Anusien: I'm a kiwi and I've shagged a sheep

Is it really that bad to have an easy nickname for a color combination? If anything, it's a testament to WotC's marketing that those names have endured with players for as long as they have. I was always amazed with how well the guild names stuck with two-color combinations for so long after the original Ravnica block. The same holds true with the shards. For many people, those names go beyond the story line where they were introduced. They embody those colors and are an easy reference point for many players. That's why they endure. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

I didn't really expect a full out conversation about it. Most of the stuff I say seems to get ignored. I do agree that it's a testament to WotC marketing tha those names stick around. When those names are describing decks that are nothing like their predecessors aside from the colors, I thi I it's dumb. I don't have to like it. It's not like I can make everybody change what they call their decks, and even if I could, would I? I like inventive deck names (dirty kitty), or naming the deck around it's core components (thragdoor). During Scars block, I ran a mono-black poison control deck that I called "Mr. Yuk." I took a storm build to states in 2006 whose critical card was Grinning Ignus (yes, it was bad). I called it Cheshire Storm. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*FB*Logout- MM is a copycat! Hahaa, i remember Mr. Yuk. You were trying to win without having to attack right? I was always trying to figure out why Stoneforge Mystic looked so amazing. Never realized it was Bierek's art. He's definitely my favorite MTG artist. I can usually tell his new art without reading the name, like the m13 swamp or Breeding Pool.
And you know i love me some Drana. edit: More MTGO questions What's the best way to pick up cards on MTGO to build pauper decks? Is there a 'modern pauper' format? Is there any market to turn paper cards into mtgo cards? I understand that's difficult because of huge price differences in some cards __________________ Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

Does anyone know if the Return to Ravnica novels were actually printed? I can only find the e-books online.__________________ I'm a geek, you're a geek. They were announced as e-book only and I don't think it ever changed.

+1. I also enjoyed the Kamigawa cycle actually. Toshi was a great character and Hidetsugu one badbehind Ogre.

The Ice Age cycle books by Jeff Grubb were amazing and the original book Arena is one of my favorite books of all time.

Why are a good number but certainly not all ebay auctions now featuring 'import charges' even for low-value items? I only ever paid duty on boxes and ebay never cared before.
