Really? I see it as a (predictable) overreaction. Was this really that a big deal? Some guy decided to do something unique and humorous (to some). I think there are people out there who just need to lighten up.

Try to separate the act from the image here. Is it a little gross to see butt cleavage hanging out at big magic events? Sure it is. That doesn't justify public shaming though. You should not have to run the risk of being humiliated just because you showed up at a magic event. If the subjects of the photos were intentionally doing this, then I could see the OP of the photos having some ground to stand on. Judging from the background nature of the images, I have a feeling they had no idea about it until the images started circulating online. And regardless of whether you think it was a big deal, I can guarantee you somebody in Hasbro's legal department thought it was. Wizards has to take incidents like this very seriously. If they don't, there's a good chance they could get sued over something like this. It may sound ridiculous, but I have seen cases filed for less. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

Exactly what cause of action would there be here? Nobody was identified. You can file nutty cases all day, doesn't mean you'll win.

Dude the format is modern. Who the hell can afford belts? I'm just glad they were at least wearing clothing.

I agree. WotC, Hasbro, and even SCG have to draw a line somewhere, and I think drawing it here is wise on their parts. Giving some other moron an opportunity to take things further just seems like bad times. As far as I'm personally concerned, the guy is a colossal douchebag. His post isn't funny. To top that off, given his size, you can't tell me that's never happened to him before. I'm smaller than the pictured guys. I wear my pants where they belong, and I wear shirts that end below my pants, sometimes tucked in. Guess what? I've shown my buttcrack before, and I didn't know I was showing it until someone pointed it out. It just happens sometimes, even when you're wearing a belt, like I almost always (95%) do. Instead of posting Twitter pics, maybe Douche McAsshat could have alerted the players, discretely, in between games. Or maybe he could have alerted the judges, and they could have said/done something about it. All this prickbag is doing is perpetuating the "well, it's Magic, what do you expect?" stereotype. Do something positive with whatever influence you have to make changes for the better. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*FB*Logout- MM is a copycat! (So am I)*CKGB

I was not anywhere even close to Richmond last weekend. I don't even go to major events anymore. It's more about being disturbed that people seem to find this kind of public shaming so funny. As I have tried to make clear, I find the exposed butt crack thing pretty unsightly myself. However, chances are it's going to happen in a room filled with 4k+ magic players, many of whom are probably on the hefty side. I imagine you would see the same thing happen at other large events that are male dominated. No matter how I feel about people not doing enough to cover their cracks, it still doesn't excuse the act of going around, taking pictures, and then posting them for the world to see. I guess it was stupid of me to expect any empathy to come out of the internet tough guys of MOTL.

So if I understand this correctly, those who disagreed with you are "internet tough guys"? I am not sure that this sort of derogatory comment is called for. It's not like everyone is saying "lol look at those fat newbs and their ass cracks out haha so funny lollerz" (though there are some posts that could be argued to fall under this umbrella). quote: Originally posted by JoshSherman: I'm smaller than the pictured guys. Yeah, as Josh stated, this happens. It's not really a big deal. Iccarus, I expect that you understand that, I understand that, most people posting here understand that. So some guy went around poking fun at the fact that cracks are visible. So what? I honestly think calling this "public shaming" is taking the concept too far. If he had posted butt cracks and face photos side-by-side with names and personal data, then I could see how it would be an issue. But what was done here was essentially harmless. quote: Originally posted by JoshSherman: As far as I'm personally concerned, the guy is a colossal douchebag. His post isn't funny. I would say that this actually works in his favor, as he understands what it means to have his crack exposed. In fact, it might have been more interesting had his final picture been of someone else posing for his butt crack. Again, I think volcannon makes a good point here in that no one was identified. This would be a very different conversation if the pictures had captions such as "Here is Billy McBunghole with his crack exposed for all to see!".

I don't honestly expect any Judge to do anything about this sort of thing. It's not really within their scope to say "Uh, excuse me sir but your butt crack is visible". Even if this guy did decide to mention it, some people might say "Oh yeah? Thanks." and fix their pants while others might say "Oh yeah? Enjoy the show." and continue playing. This is the part I disagree with. If you are in public then you can be photographed. I know that a magic tournament isn't technically a public venue but it is close enough. If you don't want your crack to be photographed put it somewhere that people can't see it. This is the same difference as people complaining about the Walmart shoppers photos.

Think of it as a news reporter going to a magic event to write a news article. It's already bad enough we have a male dominated event where deodorant gets minimal application. I'm sorry those people got publicly shamed, but hopefully the average magic player has a higher sense of cleanliness and dignity after this event going forward. Stereotypes exist for a reason, and I'd prefer the player base stopped feeding them. Future note tho to SCG: Please provide belts instead of playmats.

Agree and Agree. It's still rude to publicly shame people and there should be repercussions for they guy who posted those photos. It's bad for the people involved and it's bad for the Magic community in much the same way as the Walmart shopper photos are bad for Walmart and its customers.

What best/cheap or the cheapest/good deck you could play in standard right now?I was looking at RG, but with no caryatid, coursers, or hydra basically. But certainly open to anything really. I just want to play casually, but have a halfway decent chance to hold down a game. Where i play is very casual and most decks are not tier 1 at all.

they shouldn't be posted for the world to see?Do you reeeeally think that someone that goes to a room with 4500+ people with their bum-bum showing really cares what other people think? Agree with above posters... maybe this will bring some awareness to the fact that (whether you fit the stereotype or not) to play magic you have to be stinky, overweight, have plumber's crack showing, a burly neck beard and breath using only your mouth... maybe players could even make an effort to clean up a little, like going to a tournament where there will be thousands of people is an event that you should be appropriately dressed, almost like a date, or going to a big family dinner. Now don't start posting that I'm suggesting that we wear a button down and dress shoes cause you know that's not what I mean.

I have a satyr firedancer/young pyromancer RW. 4 fire dancer 4 pyromancer 4 chandra 's phoenix Then the rest is burn (jet, strike, Boris charm, helix, shock...) Minus the foundry's its cheap and could use mutavaults but not necessary. Pretty fun too. One recently T8 on mtgtop8.com somewhere.

This is how I usually dress for any magic event that isn't kitchen table, so I definitely agree that the norm should at least push a little that way. I go to FNM almost every week like I was trying to impress a girl without looking like I'm trying too hard to impress her :P I'm not saying you should be in your Sunday's best, but when I'm cleaned up, I feel good. When I feel good, my head is clearer. When my head is clear, I tend to play better. Should someone be ridiculed for plumber's crack? Probably not. If magic players started dressing nicer, would it have a positive impact on the playing experience? I think so.

For Christ's sake, to quote you, some people have different ideas of what shaming is. Your MOTL handle is more offensive to me than those pictures and I'm not even religious....but I am a carpenter. If having a picture of your buttcrack posted on the interwebs offends you, pull up your damn pants.

If you don't think millions of people seeing you at what is arguably your worst isn't shaming I really am not sure what to say.__________________ Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore"
