Oh yeah, I can remember the days of $20 crappy gold legends. Even the worst vanilla ones. English Legends was extremely short printed when you consider the demand that existed for magic at the time. Wiki says it was only actually available for a month. Even getting our hands on Revised cards around that time required pretty much being at the store when they got new product in.

While Chronicles reprinted some questionably high-value cards, it's a shame it did not include many of the best cards out of Legends (or AN and AQ). At the least then the furor over the reserved list might actually make sense 20 years later. It's pretty hard to convince people the list was prompted by a set that included such stars as Bronze Horse and Ashnod's Transmogrant

Looks neat. I don't trade that much nowadays but I suspect this will be valuable to a number of people on the site.

This clearly belongs in the SCG pricing thread. Banhammer?

This post has NOTHING TO DO with StarCity or their business model!

Right, so, wanted to know what you lot think about the possibility of a reprint on Rishadan Port, especially now that it's bloody doubled in price in six months.

I have always LoVeD the art. I had also forgotten about the card from my full sell-out in 2007 until last year, when it looked as a card I'd have to fairly well forget about owning, as too expensive / too niche-play for my chosen format of EDH for its price.

Well, I lucked into one last fall and was happy, happy to regain one, going to far as to work into Kaalia. The current price jump is banging into my policy to review any significant card that goes over 50% of what I paid for it, to verify that I shouldn't trade it for cards I want more. This is behind my decision to trade off my JP Vendilion Clique for 2 Morningtide versions. Without any emotional investment in the art (beautiful in foil as it is) making a 2 for 1 split just made sense.

Now I've a card that I have an emotional investment in that I believe has a neon 'reprint me' bullseye on it. Basically Im grappling with offering it for trade now in the belief that it will be reprinted with Jerry Tiritilli's original art vs keeping it against the risk the reprint will have new art.

What do you lot think of my rambling here?

Cheers;
keywacat

I think ramblings are healthy and are a good way to get things off your chest.

I think we will see a judge promo before anything else though. Well and in Vintage Masters on Mtgo.

On another note anyone know of anygood alter artists. Trying to get some lands done planechase style.

I don't see a standard reprint of port coming and it won't be in any duel deck or event deck. Judge foil or Conspiracy maybe as the reprints are not format specific as of yet and it may appeal to multiplayer players. Even if reprinted at mythic in conspiracy I doubt it will drop much. Original frame/art are popular and look what happened to other mythics in MMA. Chance of reprint seems unlikely to me

Ciao jbark;

I agree with your estimation of the routes for a reprint, though not with your pessism that its not coming.

It appears to me that WotC is carefully choosing Judge promos that appeal to the 'judge community', why else would Karador be going into rotation? I think Rishadan Port would strike a strong chord among the older segment of judges and definitely has the catchet to make it to a future rotation.

I would almost expect a judge foil Port to be printed. However, I doubt it would have any impact on the value of Masques ones.

SCG paying 70 on blues and 40 on non-blue Zen fetches.

Well, guess we are at legacy prices for modern decks now.

Magic's getting crazy.

100 for blue fetches and 60 for the rest.

This is getting out of control pretty fast, do you think these prices will hold up?

Oops, guess I sold out on mine a couple weeks early.

However with the new card style coming soon I won't be shocked if there's a reprint soon.

I haven't really been following the speculations about fetches, but If they were reprinting them, they'd reprint the Onslaught ones first... right?

IF they do it, speculation is it would be all of them. Seems they don't want to favor allied vs. enemy color pairings when printing lands. We shall see.

I would hope they do, but there is an argument to be made for them being too-expensive to reprint in a regular set.

The longer Wizards waits to reprint expensive cards the harder it becomes to avoid massive disruption in the secondary market.

Need some help figuring out the math on something. Assuming you have an 8-man swiss draft, what will the break down on records be, assuming no draws?

In other words, how many players with each record should you have.
3-0
2-1
1-2
0-3

I have an answer, but want to double check to make sure I'm not forgetting something really dumb.

EDIT: Thanks psrex. That's what I thought, but I had this feeling I was missing something for some reason.

With no draws you would have to get:

1 at 3-0
3 at 2-1
3 at 1-2
1 at 0-3

What is pushing the demand on Underground Sea and Volcanic Island far above and beyond the other dual lands??? I don't follow eternal formats closely, but I don't remember reading/hearing/seeing anything that explains the current situation.

Going by what I've been seeing in the past 2 weeks in MODO top 8s, blue duals are the most commonly played in legacy at the moment. Particularly, the decks playing ANY duals that see the most top 8s are Show and Tell, UGx Delver, UW Countrbalance, and UWx Stoneforge. Almost every other top deck doesn't even play duals.

-Landless Dredge: no duals
-Lodestone Control decks: no duals
-Pox: generally mono-black with no duals

There are outliers, but in generally, Underground Sea, Volcanic Island, and Tropical Island are by far in the most top decks. Tundra and Bayou also make appearances, but generally 1-2 of's.

I've never seen a vintage top 8 and I don't even want to imagine the shenanigans going on there.
