Yes. There are 72 1-drop blue creatures in all of Magic and most of them are awful in a control shell. Exceptions: -Delver -Cursecatcher -Jace's Phantasm -possibly Balduvian Shaman but I refuse to read it to find out -Cloud Pirates... because they're FLYING pirates I'd go with Cloud Pirates Edit: 79 cards if you include split symbols. No change in the result.

Don't forget Judge's Familiar. It's better than Cursecatcher in everything but merfolkiness and strictly better than Cloud Pirates.

Dude, what if your opponent has circle of protection white in play? Then the raw power of cloud pirates shines through. What if your opponent has Gloom? Then your Judge's familiar costs 3 more!

the better question is, if you're really a control deck, why do you want a crappy 1 drop, when you can play real game enders?

Ok- a budget mono blue control. FOW, Mana drain, those are wishlist cards that'll never be in my inventory of a trade binder/collection unless I win the lottery. Maybe not as much control as I think. I would love to add 4x Snapcaster Mages to the deck as my 4x 2 drops, but not at $30 each. Can't afford it. __________________ 30th in refs on Motl! #1 Ref's for Arizona! then play a pauper variant, it's still fine. Spire golem is LOADS better than delver in an actual control deck though.

So you wanna protect the play mat that's supposed to help protect your cards? How deep does this rabbit hole go?

If it makes you feel better my back pack used to have a rain jacket... On a more serious note I was wondering how to keep a nicer play mat I bought in better condition.

its its just the mousepad variety, you can use acrylic spray sealant on it. If its something nicer, like a spellground material, just treat it well and clean it occasionally. also, use a play mat tube. Just folding them up and shoving it in the backpack is a bad idea. I've got a spellground I do that to cause carrying a tube large enough for it doesn't seem realistic. I feel bad every time I do it :/

Too bad for that person, I'm hardheaded enough that it would be like he's punching concrete. You've never seen the Type 1 decks featuring 4 Cop White and 4 Rop White? You should check the hottest SCG lists. There was 40 Cop White in the last Cincinnati Vintage T8.

I troll people who say strictly better. Just say usually better. It covers 99% of situations and leaves you 1% to agree with weird corner cases.

Don't use it. I'm not trying to be funny or annoying. (I know, right?) Totally serious. I have a couple of cool ones that just sit there looking pretty.

That's fair enough. Special occasions or something of that like. I just got a nicer playmat and I know my normal one is worn to all heck (but I was a moron and folded it when I first got it). I think I'll just buy a tube for safe keeping regardless.

My 100% cotton, lint-free dishtowels work exceptionally well. Plus you can fold them or just wad them up. No creasing!

^ new favorite post since it does not quote or reference what its replying to. it just looks like you really love your dishtowels. Edit: also does anyone have any thoughts on commander as an FNM format? ive never played commander and don't want my FNMs to go extremely long (they usually last 4 hours) but im always interested in building decks. how long do competitive commander tournaments last? Is there a time limit?

This very much depends on structure. If you are doing multiplayer or 1v1 (also called Duel Commander), how many players (therefore rounds) you have. I play in multiplayer tournaments where we randomly seat players in 2-5 pods (we've never had enough at any shop to do more than 5 pods, attendance varies, but typically you want 3-5 per pod) and then winner/s of each pod move to a final pod and prize support pays out to them. In 1v1, especially with competitive crowds, you can finish in the traditional 50 minute time span. In multiplayer you can set a time limit like 50/60/75 what have you, but the times i've played there has been no issue having no set time limit. When people play to win the round eventually ends.

What makes them special? Argentina/Mexico is probably cheaper. Europe is $$$$$. Even a basic forest is $2.
