Opinion: is this snapcaster a fake? I'm not as familiar on identifying fake foils. The price is a steal. http://imgur.com/gallery/vVWTyth/new

I've only put my hands on one fake foil, but my understanding is that they are significantly stiffer and thicker than a real one. The fake I held the other night sure as hell was.

Where are you finding these lists? Interesting that they're doing Italian out of all foreign languages. The only other non-English fake I've seen was Mana Crypt (I think). Demand for Italian is pretty low, you'd think they'd go for Japanese.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004QF0A1Y Has been the greatest thing since sliced bread for me. Also a cheap multi-led flashlight (not cree) so you can see the pattern through the cards. As others have mentioned, some fakes will have blue cores, but in my experience these fail the light test much more visibly. The above usb microscope is powerful enough to see the blue core without tearing the card. No one test will do, and you may as well not do the water or bend tests. Opacity, pattern inspection and blacklight tests are the way to go. Be sure to check font and letter spacing as this can often be a dead giveaway.

I wish we had a standard. Using the microscope idea, an image of several known real cards could be taken at high resolution. This allows you to pick out the features identical to each card at high resolution. This is how x-ray crystallography is done for high resolution pictures of atomic crystal structures- they create as perfect of a crystal as possible (as many real cards as possible) to fire an x-ray through it to get an image. Ours would be much simpler and use (much) less resolution of course, within the light wavelength spectrum no doubt is fine. No need for electronic microscopy I understand this is cost prohibitive, so it would only be useful for large collections I think.

Thanks a bunch for posting so much infomation here, I really haven't been keeping up too much on Magic the past year and a half or so and last I saw the counterfeits were still really crude and easy to tell. Appreciate knowing that I should really just check every card I get.Really am kind of surprised to see them going for Unhinged lands. And the Italian thing is pretty strange as well, especially since it doesn't seem to be many Legends cards.

Went to a lgs in my area bc i heard they had an unlimited scrubland and i am looking to get into 93/94 old school. Thought maybe someone dumped an old collection there. Wasn't too much, but they had all unlimited: Scrubland Wheel of fortune Mahamoti djinn x2 Demonic hordes Howling mine All looked nm and i was real excited at very fair prices, but i asked to see them out of sleeve to make sure they were nm and make sure the backs were in good shape. Upon inspection, i noticed the wheel has a thin horizontal line all the way across the card about 1/3 the way down. I was bummed it wasn't nm. Upon inspection of the others i wanted to purchase, i noticed the same line existed and some had the line about 2/3 down the card as well. Some faintly visible on the back, but all on the front. All passed the bend test and light test, but felt maybe ever so slightly flemsier. May actually be normal, i was just very skeptical at the time after seeing the line. It sounds like a dead fake, but they looked to real its crazy (they may actually be). I talked to the owner and he wants to bring them to a friend to check further into it. Says a guy sold them all in a collection he had and also had legends booster and the dark boosters, all loose (not sealed). Some poor guy bought all 7 legends packs for $150 each and the best thing he got was a single chain lightning. Im guessing he packs have been searched. Owner said the same guy sold an alpha set at gencon for $35,000. If these turn out to be fake, i am scarcely worried for older magic cards. I'd love to save hundreds buying moxes and arabians on ebay rather than online retailers who up charge an unrealistic amount, but don't think I can pull the trigger anymore. Really sucks, was so stoked when I heard about this old school format. Its everything i want magic to be again, but how can I spend thousands and trust it? The line on these cards can best be described like this, if you took a pen and drew a line across the card using a ruler, but the pen had no ink. It is just the indention. I could see it being maybe s printing error if on only one card, but all the cards... All rares so couldnt have been from the same packs snd starter deck.

actually that line is typical on unlmited cards. i think i even have a mox emerald with it. i would be confident they are real as long as they dont have any of the signs i've documented in this thread

I can't believe the store didn't laugh at you when you wanted to bend test an unlimited mahamoti djinn to see if it was real. Also can't believe they let you do the bend test on any of their cards.

I didnt suggest or perform the test, their "magic guy" did. I was impressed he even knew what he was doing and wanted to further investigate with another source.

Yeah, the last Emerald I owned was near-perfect, except for the very light horizontal line that was present.__________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

Picked up a couple new ones, both of them Force of Will:The first is terrible, and I even waited FOUR MONTHS for it, with the guy "Not knowing what happened" and this one that I received being "third generation with higher quality". It is total poop, so there's no way to be fooled by these, thankfully. Art details are good, but the colors are WAY too dark, there is a film over the card that feels like the scotch tape you can write on, and the cardstock is super thin. The second is making things start to be more worrisome, to be honest. Art details are crystal clear, comparing it to other blue cards of the same era shows that colors are accurate. The card is super glossy though, kind of like supplemental cards. It "pops" like a real card, and the thickness is similar. I've got it side by side with a Benthic Explorers, and...yikes. The front is damn near 100%, other than the gloss. I don't have a real Force to compare it to. Someone should send them to me if they use Pucatrade. :P On the back, the black border is WAY too dark, as Ice Age/Alliances had odd, faded borders. Colors are too saturated. The mana orbs are blurry. The Deckmaster logo is much more clear and defined on the fake, which is odd. It does not pass the light test. It's letting almost nothing through. I have to hold it right against the dual LED's on my phone to get light to pass through. I've got more stuff coming in, but at the prices the guy had them listed, I expect them to be kind of ****. Will post when they arrive.

Anyone know if there have been fake CHR Blood Moons floating around? I'm having a hard time with one, but it seems like The Dark and Modern Masters are the only versions I know to have fakes. It looks disturbingly good if it isn't real.
