Like I say every time I post in here, I hope you're all well these days.

I'm so ****ing ****ed I missed this. Reading this a few months later has me really gutted. I traded a lot of 45's for Magic cards to Don. I still have the OG foil Life from the Loam I got from him. I'm finding as I get older in life the nostalgia is really hitting hard with Magic. I just miss the good old times and the good old cards. If anyone wants to hit me up and talk about the good old times mail me at cardboardcreationism@gmail.com. we really need a Discord or what ever you opld ****s are using to stay in touch.

My brother & I have taken to rebuilding decks from old formats to replay old matchups. Unfortunately, I don't think he still remembers how to use the stack so I'm going to whoop him when we play in 2 weeks. I wish this would become a bigger thing. Keep around some 20 year old Onslaught standard decks or even 10 year old Ravnica or Theros decks.

I'm on a quest right now to rebuild my old top 8 decklists that are easily found online. I've got most rebuilt except I don't want to rebuy duals at current prices so I need someone to come over with some volcs and tundra and trade me IRL haha.

But ya, as we get older the percentage of my facebook friends who are deceased is growing more rapidly than I would've expected.

Edit: On a more upbeat note and for those of you with FB, I can show you my progress on my Transformers collection:

I can't remember if the group is private, it may want you to join the Transformers Generation One G1 group to view it.

I was the one who gave you a Foil Life From the Loam ( as well as a Foil Ghost Quarter) for your 18 45rpm records. I've got our trade listed in my non MTG thread ( yes it's still on the boards, I'll up it). Shame about Rockondon though, I hadn't heard that either.

I've been buying cards on facebook and it's a terrible place to buy cards. Got me thinking of when I use to trade on this website. I can't believe this place is still here. It's a shame that it's a shell of what it use to be. I use to spend so much time at work posting here and on mtgsal.

I miss the chat as much as anything else, to be honest. And the sharing of cards everyone else collects, like my dumb obsession with Chatter of the Squirrel and Firebolt and imp's thing about dragons. Talking Tillamook cheese and weird foreign deals that fell through with nderdog and discussing decks with whoever would listen.

I, too, pop in occasionally just to see if the site has made a comeback or not. Shame that it hasn't and that Leshrac hasn't given the site over to someone else.

I had something really cool happen yesterday. Not magic related but that's ok, we're in the general chat!

Earlier this month, a guy named Brian posted in a group that he had sealed Generation 1 Transformers he was thinking of selling: Optimus Prime & Trailbreaker. Said he'd had them both since he was around 10, like 1985 or 1986. Boxes were rough and he asked for price estimates. I didn't see that post nor the one from back In November where he'd also asked. He got some terribly unhelpful responses in those posts. Part of the issue was the lack of detail clarity in the photos but also many of the people commenting didn't know what they were talking about.

Later this month, I saw his 3rd post where he listed them for sale asking $3,000 for them. He'd posted better photos and it seemed that trailbreaker's tape had broken (later found out from his kid that he'd accidently broken it since last time Brian looked) so that it would no longer be considered factory sealed and the wear on the Prime was enough that it wasn't clear whether the seal was factory or not (color break, etc).
He got some offers. I PM'd him and talked for a while. Good, chill dude to talk with. I sent him some information from various resources & made him an offer (after seeing some better pics but not enough good ones and we'll talk about why better pictures are so important later). My offer was contingent upon us meeting in person and (gasp) opening them together so we could inspect the contents (if not unused, rewind deal). He thought it over and decided he was up for a road trip instead of trying to sell online and deal with scammers and fees.
He came over and I checked them out. The good news was, the Prime looked better in person than what many of us feared. Sure, there were plenty of red flags like color break on the front corners and a tear to the flap both under the tape and elsewhere. It definitely wasn't worth getting graded. But a picture pointing up above the cab might've shown us what appeared to be the "push the styrofoam" slip that the factory taped up there. A peak around the tape might've shown the sticker sheet was hiding back there. It's hard on worn boxes to see the good without great lighting and many different angles of shots.
The bad news was the Trailbreaker looked worse than we'd guessed. It seems at some point it got in water without being dried off promptly and that resulted in a large amount of mold dots through the box even to the bubble.
:: Stop reading for a moment of silence for Trailbreaker ::
.
.
.
We now return to the the Transformers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjkCWGTBYrc
We talked for a while and decided to move forward and I opened the Optimus Prime. It was like:
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready ...
except I don't think I looked calm and ready. I never got a G1 Prime as a kid. I was born in late 82 so they were off shelves before dad started getting Transformers for me. My first Prime was Powermaster and first original style (sort of) was G2 or 2002 commemorative (still have both).
I got out my knife and cut Prime's box open. Thanks to Alan's fantastic video opening a bloated last year I knew what to expect. https://www.facebook.com/groups/604708720233166/posts/1237236230313742/ While I have many complete in box primes now, I don't have any with anything besides missiles left on spru just some used roller and fists sprus.
I opened it and guessed correctly it was a T4 variant based on the (R) on the front of the box rather than the TM older boxes have. I said it could be a #5 or #6 but figured that was less likely. I was surprised it had TM instructions (and 84 catalog) despite being in an (R) box but that led me to correctly guess it was a Takara only stamp one rather than the Hasbro stamped one. It was super exciting and I'd like you all to share in my joy through this terrible quality video:
https://youtu.be/fJvTNsQeLyo
We took a quick break then I recorded a second video of the Trailbreaker. You can see the extent of the mold damage. To be honest, I have no idea what to do with this, but it was still a once in a lifetime (or twice for those of you who had them as kids) experience. I brushed off some of the mold for Trailbreaker. The toy may be fine, maybe even the bubble could be cleaned, but the cardboard will always be sketchy unless someone knows a lot more about cleaning mold off cardboard. My wife says she wants me to throw away the box and the cardboard backer for the bubble at a minimum.
Here's the trailbreaker opening.
https://youtu.be/ZvBQ7DwBqVg
Opening a Prime wasn't even on my bucket list because I never expected to do it. Prime isn't one I expected to get sealed, much less open it if I did. But there were enough red flags that I didn't feel comfortable getting it and not opening it.
I hope you all enjoy this. If you have any thoughts on how to handle Trailbreaker, please let me know.
I'd like to thank Brian for the wonderful opportunity and the great chats. I wish that guy all the good Karma in the world, he deserves it.

I'm glad Bernie is still out and about and doing well! Way way back in the day, I bought some Beta Stone Rains for FICHBOM because the community got me a LOT of Serra Angels. Also, I know it's a bit presumptuous but I can't help but feel that the Russian 9th Edition Stone Rain was one I sent him. I cracked a case of it back then and sent most his way too.
