To be fair, an important chunk of that extra cost must have come from Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
It's quite sad, really. I have a few Legacy decks, all worth several hundred or more (my NO BUG list hits $1600 or so). I acquired most of the cards years and years ago, so my actual costs were quite low. Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky, and these costs present a serious barrier to their entry in the format. If my memory serves, the price situation in Legacy today is fairly comparable to Vintage when I joined this site ten years ago. And Vintage seemed waaaay too expensive to me way back then. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. I just realized last week that my Team America deck is wroth nearly $1600+ and my Maverick deck is around 600 bucks with no Cradle and nothing pimped out in either. All normal english non foils.Though I just bought a Foil Progenitus on Ebay so I will have one pimped card in my GW/Maverick deck soon.
It depends on how young you're looking at. Most <18 is basically going to rely on parents or some alternate source of funding anyway (I guess you could start working at 16 or something). Anyone 18+ can put together a $1000+ deck to play with, though it might take some time. They just can't put together MULTIPLE $1000 decks, but that doesn't preclude them from playing and being competitive. This also seems to be focusing on Vintage/Legacy. Not that Modern or Standard is particularly cheap, but I think they're much cheaper than those.

Probably isn't a good idea to run one foil in a deck and it happens to be a one-of that you never want to draw.

Just 160. The Tundras and fetches on the other hand... And I'm thankful as hell that I play tribal wizards casually and I just HAPPENED to have 3 Cliques lying around. At any rate, it's doable to make a deck, but it's hard. I only justified the splurging of money because I have a nearly full ride. I don't think many other college students are as fortunate as I am. quote: Originally posted by gcowhsu: well the question is did you buy clique before or after cause that's like 100 dollars right there if you run 3. Same with jace/SFM before or after ban?
Lucky on all 3 counts. Had Cliques before (got them for what, 21 dollars total). Bought SFM and Jace after banning, so that's roughly 30 and 160.

Oops, I forgot about duals and fetches. Doh! __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. EliotRIP Ari Legacy UGB River Rock primer. PM comments/questions. Info on grad school in Phil.

People can accuse you of cheating. Since a foil is supposed to thicker than a normal card, some people can tell it apart from other cards in the deck and do certain not to draw it.

I did the same thing this summer. Luckly I already had the Tundras/wastelands/forces. I got the Jace's for some old pimp cards and a couple of alters. And I picked up the stoneforge after the bannings and the cliques like a week before modern caused the price jump. I really do need to sit down and figure out my 15 card sideboard though.

Starting to get random emails from non-motl members wanting to trade.I'm pretty sure they are scammers. also where would be a good place to get a good estimate on a price for a case of the set coming out. A friend is looking to get a case for this set so we are looking at prices locally and will compare. I'd need Canadian sites but with the dollar similar American ones will do (Star City was $4 cheaper than one Canadian site so far) __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 10000+ posts 3rd in posts in Ontario 15th in posts on MOTL Top 5 in Refs in Ontario (by people who location posted)

I've had good experiences buying cases from The Card Kid. http://www.thecardkid.com

So I made a few trades in the last day or two and just realized I am out of toploaders and there is no where in town to buy them. Any suggestions on how I should package these until i get some more?

You can sandwich them between cardboard and tape it together nice and tight.

Try 3 x 5 index cards taped togeather. and their fairly cheap. even local grocery stores has them. the more u use, the better the protection.__________________ Your 2008 and 2010 Motl Siskel & Ebert award winner! Need a 3rd party trader? I'm available! Email me if interested.

the obvious answer is start buying random cards that you want off ebay in hopes they'll get mailed in a toploader! Is it bad that I bought one pack of toploaders years and years ago and still have some? Its not because I don't ship anything out, its because I reuse toploaders that get sent to me so most of my transactions have been me getting cards. TO top that off I throw away about half the toploaders I get because they're dirty or sticky from tape. Thankfully I've been in a selling sort of mood recently.

Where is rulings thread 49?1) Im wondering if I can remove Batterskull token with Lightning Bolt before it gets +4/+4? 2) Lets say im attacking with Tarmogoyf and my opponent activates Stoneforge and drops Batterskull; do I have chance to remove the Germ with Path to Exile before my opponent can declare it as blocker?

http://classic.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/025032-5.html change the date range on the topics you're viewing. edit #1: also, when is states this year? or is it actually canceled now? The place that usually runs it around here doesn't have anything up for their events. edit#2: Also when rotation happens duress and inquisition leave and we're left w/ despise and distress in standard? Black seems screwed. Here's hoping duress is in innistrad.

Can someone explain to me why Zhang-Fei is worth so much?? Just bought one to complete my collection and didn't give two thoughts as to what it actually did but now that I've read it I'm a bit underwhelmed. It seems much worse than Guan-Yu who seems to be worth less?
