Since you're going to be recurring Tutors indefinitely, why don't you just play combo?
Are the combos you're referring to are the infinite mana ones (like Corpse Dance + Songs of the Damned) and ends with casting Exsanguinate?
I think the EDH decks at my LGS is more fun-oriented, so that's why I didn't want my first try at an EDH deck to be all cutthroat win-every-game-and-no-one-wants-to-play-with-me-anymore. Fun doesn't mean bad, but it's just not the $1000+ (or $2500+) decks that half of the online decklists are. Most of the guys here have very limited card pools outside of Standard stuff. It's really just the store owner, me, and a couple others (whom I don't know if they play EDH, but I've seen them at drafts) with a large amount of older cards. I mean, some people only know of Sol Ring because it was in Commander decks.
The problem is somewhat that I don't know what combos are even available. I've been in and out of Magic since I first started playing, and my brain is missing entire blocks of knowledge (literally, blocks being MTG blocks; I didn't play at all between 2006 and AVR, and I've just recently obtained enough knowledge of Standard to be able to play the format at FNM). I've been looking up Xiahou Dun deck lists for a few hours earlier today to get some ideas and I'm honestly just O_O-ing at the fact that I don't know what half of the cards in the decks even do.
http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=363179 is one of the threads I've been reading with a ton of apparent combos to use. Are those the kind you're referring to?
