If there's no trash, there's nothing to make the useful stuff useful.

it is a really annoying card and I've lost to it certainly more then once, but any time that I see one in draft I still pass them. Just seems too slow.

Useful stuff is only useful in relation to the trash. If there were the same volume of unique cards there are now, but cards which are currently "good" were actually the worst of the available cards, we would be having an identical conversation about those cards being trash.

Which would be true for new sets, not reprinted preconstructed decks.... __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. "Lord Crovax"

True, but we need the crap. Why? So the power creep doesn't get to bad, which has ruined a lot of CCG games in the past, like Yugioh and to a lesser extent Pokemon.__________________ -Schmitty 97th in Refs [263] on MOTL (tied with Phyrexian Angel) 4th in Refs [263] in OH-IO (2 behind Bmadsen) 2nd in Posts [7187] in OH-IO (only 1000 behind Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

The thing I guess I don't understand is. They never print new cards in these decks, so just buy the 10 cent commons that you want them to put in the decks. I mean if you want a Coral Fighters, you don't need to buy the duel deck, just buy a Coral Fighters.

The problem I have these days is, that I like to play with crap. The crap just seems to get aced by the good stuff, which IMO was not the case a few years back. I could get away with playing the crap, and not get completely blown out by the good stuff. I may very well lose the game, but at least I'd get to play.

Well YuGiOh was ruined because too many good cards were printed in precons. So many MTG players want cheap cards, but if there is nothing that is hard to get, the game loses its collectibility and then its player base. The best thing for MTG is to not put too much in these duel decks.

The best part about building an all commons cube is that I have all of the cards already and I can foil it out for dirt cheap. Btw, Daru Stinger is sick now. Remember how it dominated Onslaught draft? Now it's a human, and gets amplified by other humans, of which a huge number of creatures are.

Errata is hard enough to keep up on with good and/or played cards. So much more difficult when it comes to junk. How does your playgroup keep up with it during the draft?

Aside from a few exceptions, like Stinger, I don't have any cards that don't properly say what they are. If I'm using old stuff it's mostly creatures that are now Humans in addition to being Clerics, like Troubled Healer (which also happens to be a house). For older stuff, I'm using a lot of box set reprints, too, like Cadaverous Knight from Mirage that wasn't originally a zombie, I'm using the planechase reprint or whatever it was. I've got a lot of tribal elements in the cube, so most of these issues are moot since the two tribal blocks were made after wizards decided to stop making sets with all sorts of minotaur lords and creatures that look like minotaurs, but none of the creatures were actually minotaurs. Like Homelands.

MTGO related bragging:Finished my playset of foil MOCS Wasteland yesterday! Now, including mine, 6 of the possible 8 playsets available online are off the market! Paid 190, 260, 260, and 300 respectively. Now, onto the foil MOCS Pernicious Deed playset!

So last night, I opened up the sealed 5 EDH constructed decks that I have to play a game with 4 other friends that I haven't seen in a while. I was holding off these decks to sell them, but we had such a blast! Going to keep all these decks intact to play with them whenever I meet these guys.

Yugioh was ruined because every set was basically three sick nutbombs and 97 unusable crap. And the English version had every single good card as a "super shine ultimate mondo rare", worth $500, and then half a year later the same card is released as common. Oh, and the game was very poorly designed. How does something like the Chaos Dragon get past even a single monkey with sleep apnea doing QA? And the power creep was really, really obvious. Like printing Eager cadet. And then in the next set, Savannah lions. And then the next set Isamaru without the legendary. And then in the next set a 3/3 for W with some negligible drawback. And so on. Edit: Aside from power creep, YGO just wasn't very deep and Konami did nothing to make it deeper. It was pretty much the same variations over and over gain instead of actually new mechanics. There was no real system of resources beyond cards in hand (or the terribly thought-out "sacrifice" system), so you could often just vomit your hand into play and haymaker punch your opponent.

Yes, I do. Guy said he was taking apart an EDH deck so to look in it for stuff I wanted, and when I saw that grinning black and silver face staring at me I had to get it.

Some YGO cards are expensive. A lot aren't.The MTGO 4 beta is godawful. Massively laggy and caused a hard crash on my computer, probably from overheating. Why do their clients get worse and worse as times goes on?
