Because people will play their game no matter how bad their clients are since Magic has a monopoly and magic players are complete addicts and refuse to take a stand against anything?

MTGO isn't a monopoly. Doesn't this site still have an MWS advertisement? Also, Cocktrice. In fact, Cocktrice is probably better than MTGO. Not least because it's not designed with that awful .NET trash.

Funnily enough, it does. Cardshark is still on there as well.

Yeah I would argue that MTGO and all the free clients, Cockatrice/Apprentice/MWS aren't comparable. For the purposes of playtesting, yes (except you gotta buy cards on MTGO). But I know that at least I don't use MTGO just for playtesting. There's a decent sized community of casual players for any format, you can draft for realsies, and there's like a secondary market. None of those things are present in the free clients. MTGO is also something that can make you money.

There's one thing that can't be understated about comparing MTGO to other programs.Every week, I read about stories of people on MWS/Cockatrice who don't understand how a card works and argues with another player. I can't recall the last time I've ever heard about someone on MTGO complaining about a rules problem that was NOT related to a bug. Your opponent can't argue that he can Arc Trail you for 3 damage if the program simply won't let him distribute the damage that way. Life totals and cards changing zones are NOT handled by players, so I have not had players try to insist that a permanent should still be on the battlefield or that they should be at a higher life total than I think. In a way, these kinds of rules interpretations are much cleaner than in real life, where I sometimes have to call over a judge to explain things like the interaction with deathtouch and trample when I use Kessig Wolf Run for 5 on my Acidic Slime and try to assign one damage to his Beast token and 6 damage to him. Or last FNM when I told a guy that Ghost Quarter isn't very useful after he's declared blockers and wants to stop me from using Kessig Wolf Run.

Not only that but it actually helps players to learn the rules better. I know I read an article somewhere that explained how the level of rules knowledge is much higher today than the days before the internet, and MTGO. It just helped me play a lot better because I have a better idea of how to use the stack and my deck's abilities to an advantage.

The meta at my local shop is pretty casual. As in, like most people are not good. Mono green high-mana elves and Genesis Wave is probably pretty decent, but i'm also thinking of splashing red. They put Archdruid in M12 but there's very few elves in standard...What are your favorite grn/red/art fatties, or good dudes with ETB effects? I'm looking to play a tight budget. Also, is Pod worth running if i'm not basing the deck around pod?

I'm fairly sure you do not have to do that. __________________ send ref checks, paypal payment or any questions to the email in my profile! Serra Angel Count: 778 Nightmare Count: 210 DCI Rules Advisor PlasteredDragon - Gone but not forgotten

Whats the best way to find the values of each of the Apac, Euro and Arena lands?Obviously dealer prices will be high, but don't know where else would have ana ccurate assessment of them. __________________ -Schmitty 94th in Refs [267] on MOTL (2 behind Gamma 1) 3rd in Refs [267] in OH-IO (8 behind Odie) 2nd in Posts [7322] in OH-IO (only 800 behind Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Most arena lands are cheap. The really old ones are getting up there. APAC and Euro seem to have gone up recently. Especially Apac.

if we're talking very very budget, you might be able to get away with a mana-deprivation type deck using Acidic Slime, Brutalizer Exarch, Invader Parasite and Phyrexian Metamorph. Ramp into them with elves or Rampant Growth/Dawntreader Elk/Sphere of the Suns/etc, keep your opponents off mana, and suit them up with swords or something (which is fine with gen wave). Low cost removal like Galvanic Blast, Arc Trail, Whipflare, and Slagstorm will be your best friends against ramping opponents. birthing pod is fine in a deck like that, especially if you acquire some higher cost rares slowly, like Solemn Simulacrum, titans, etc. If you want to play more aggro, G/R is already a competitive standard deck, and you can fill out some of the expensive slots with just about anything if you're playing against other budget decks.

Still in shock I even got it, went with the 200.00 off just what I knew he had which was a Foil Fetch and a few nonfoils, found everything else in a big box he told me was all commons and uncommons...lol __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me.
