While I sympathize with your complaint, I must take exception to your statement. You're far from the only person that throws around "die" like it doesn't mean what it actually means, and I don't really mean to be singling you out, but here I am. Full disclosure, I've done this in the past as well. Comments like that only serve one function: to dehumanize those who we differ from. Lets be real, you're not telling your best friend to die, regardless of whether you mean it. But we are all people. We're not all from the same country, but we are all from the same planet, regardless of what John Gray would have you believe. If we want to truly get out there and live, we have to accept that not everyone does what we do, or does what we do the way we do it. By all means, don't deal with anyone whose rules you don't like, but don't dehumanize them to the point that you can tell them to die and not feel bad about that.

I'm not Dad, I'm Josh. Don't think Dad has posted in a while. And that was exactly my point. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*FB*Logout- MM is a copycat! (So am I)*CKGB

My guess is not the play format but the some rounds yesterday, and if I'm not mistaken they played a round or two more of Sealed today before another cut was made.

Even with Splitting it into 2 GPs they had 11 rounds so i could see why. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

they didnt 'split it into 2 gps'. they split the field day1 into 2 groups. they've done this for a while at bigger gps. group A can only play other people from group A, B vs B. its still a single 2800 person GP. the players that made day2 have been merged together. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? Do the cash prizes increase with this amount of people then? If i was playing in a GP this weekend QC would be my choice for sure. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

Whenever there is a split like that you're automatically going to get people griping about being put in the "tougher" group.

The prizes do not increase. But that also don't decrease either.

As far as money goes I think you're correct, though I think WoTC did extend Pro Tour invites to the whole Top 8 instead of just the Top 4.

At what number do prizes reduce? __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

Prizes for GPs are fixed. They DO NOT CHANGE based on attendance. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=grandprix/prizes __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? The link you sent shows the following, which says "Prizes subject to change" Not sure that means they can change it for a single GP or not. Worldwide Grand Prix Prize Structure Individual Grand Prix Prizes: Prizes subject to change Individual Grand Prix Grand Prix Place Prize Money 1 $3,500 2 $2,300 3-4 $1,500 5-8 $1,000 9-12 $600 13-16 $500 17-32 $400 33-64 $200 __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

i mean, sure, if wotc wants to change them they certainly can. but, as advertised, any GP, regardless of size, has a Fixed $30k USD payout. there is no 'sliding scale' based on attendance, or any other factor.__________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? I think the "prizes subject to change" means those times where because of local gambling laws, cash prizes weren't able to be given out. At the last minute, WOTC subbed in big-screen tv's and other electronics in lieu of checks. However, don't know why you insist that prizes are different for any GP's anywhere. People have already told you that they don't change. That means they don't increase or decrease.

this is correct. the last gp in germany, for example. germany has strict gambling laws, and because minors can enter these events, they are not allowed to payout cash at all. so wotc had to give out tvs and xboxs and junk. wotc doesnt do GPs in germany anymore... __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? So I'm planning on teaching a class on Magic for my college's Splash! program and I wanted to have cards for the children to play with. Channel Fireball graciously donated lots of commons and basic lands for me to distribute the first time I taught the class, but I'm running low on basics. I was wondering if anyone could possibly donate a 5000 count box worth of basic lands. I'll pay for shipping and whatnot. Please contact me by e-mail at sageshadows7@gmail.com. Thanks! P.S: If you're interested in seeing the powerpoint I made for the class the first time around, I can send it over so you don't think I'm scamming people of hard earned lands.

thought: why not contact wotc directly They provide stores those 30 card decks to teach people how to play, maybe you could just get a ton of those? Maybe its something you have to do through your local store, but they have cases full of those things when they give them out.

Good sets to draft with a bunch of people who started in rise of eldrazi onwards? They want me to find them an affordable "cool" older set. Also where is a nice place to buy boxes on the net? I'm thinking it would be awesome to do Champions or something. That was always fun for the newer guys.
