That was always fun for the newer guys.
Time Spiral and Ravnica were fun to draft. Onslaught is okay, I guess. Ditto Mirrodin. Anything older is too expensive. Avoid Lorwyn and Shards. Shadowmoor was okay. If you do Champions do CCC or CCB. Saviors is awful.

Lorwyn is a better draft format than all those but Ravnica, and that one's close, so you have horrible opinions Volcannon...

Lorwyn is expensive though. One of the criteria was affordable. Odyssey will give you a lot of contract between what they print now and what they printed a while ago. They haven't had a set like that since. I think Champions is a pretty fun set to do also for cheap.

Has anyone tried Shards block draft in the new reverse draft order? ALA, CON, SOA?

It's kind of spendy, sure, but it is a great great format. Champions is probably the best cheapish set for draft atm. Onslaught really suffers from loss of dmg on the stack.

Zendikar was horrible for drafting. Best (in my opinion!) is 3x Innistrad, I dont think its very expensive either

I'm guessing cheap draft means only one box? So that means no big-big-small set drafts.2 boxes would open up a lot of good draft formats

while cube is a nice format, it's a different format though. it's still nice to crack some packs and draft a set that R&D made.

I have a cube. These are newer guys, so the thought of them blocking with a river kajin is going to trump getting hosed by tinker into inkwell leviathan. My cube savors every ounce of broken, and I let any cards in regardless of how "broken" they are deemed by others. Granted the cube needs rebalancing often but oh well, time well spent.

And it's "first run" because they told you it is? Or do you think that because it has the A on the upc that it's first run? That was debunked a long time ago.

Regardless it's still a decent price on a zendikar box and the probability of pulling a priceless treasure is minuscule. I didn't see they debunked the A on the upc code tho.

I liked Apocalypse draft, but IPA was best. If i had to pick, I'd go Time Spiral.__________________ -Schmitty 84th in Refs [293] on MOTL (2 behind jbp26) 2nd in Refs [293] in OH-IO (68 behind souladvocate) 2nd in Posts [7936] in OH-IO (only 150 behind Val!) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

A real cube should be full powered and nuts. My friend has one that has contract from below, blacker lotus and professor oak (all have their own rules, professor oak is the best card in the cube, idiotic I know). But if you want a more balanced cube for newbies, do a modern common/uncommon cube, very few nuts plays and very similar to regular drafts

Kind of disagree, cubing frequently is more fun with unpowered cubes (imo), but if I'm only doing it like, monthly for a couple hours, powered is fun for the silliness. If I was doing it a couple times a week though, I get pretty burnt out on power.

I feel like Legacy's popularity will keep pretty well where it was popular before. Those people are priced in, much like Vintage players years ago. It might decline, but a lot more slowly than in the areas where it wasn't so popular. I'm going to be kind of bummed if it does go the way of Vintage, because Legacy is actually a good format.

Powered cubes can lead to stupid blowouts that aren't at all fun.

That's a good idea, but I don't have a local store to contact to do this stuff. Anyone else think they can spare some basic lands? (:

My friend has a ~600ish cube, so those blowout are pretty rare. But I can see how a small cube would be problematic if someone can consistantly go T1: 3 mox, sol ring, mana vault, sylvan library, balance

Even a big cube, turn one sol ring is basically GG. Vault, library and balance are less abusive. It's really the moxen, crypt and sol ring that are oppressive.
