I can honestly say I was disappointed with my box. I ended up getting a bunch of rares that likely will never see play (countryside crushers, cold-eyed selkie, yosei, the morning star was my mythic foil, figure of destiny, demigod of revenge). The only good cards, near as I could tell are the engineered explosives, sword of fire and ice, tooth and nail and progenitus. All in all there is no way these boxes are value for money unless you get the lucky foil pull like tarmogoyf or sword or some such, and there are entirely too many scattered useless rares. A reprint run like this should focus on adding the best of a series of sets, not the most useless, especially on limited print runs. I'd rate this set as worth maybe a regular box's value, not more, given that they also chopped 12 packs out. Definitely no way this is worth $220-$250 per box; the value for money is no where near that high

Make sure you hold on to your foil mythic. I think people will try to make foil sets and foil mythics are going to be worth alot more than you might expect.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely do that. I got some good stuff (the uncommons were pretty solid, with 2 kitchen finks, and 2 path to exile among others), but the value really doesn't hit the $250 mark. I know this one was an experiment, I'm hoping Wizard's will improve on it a bit, get rid of more of the chaff, stick with making it a solid playable box across the board instead next time

What else could they put in a make is solid across the board? Adding mutavault and thoughtseize doesn't make it playable across the board. It sounds like you want a 75 card set of only playables. It's players' fault for making the price what it is.

I'm not so much concerned with a 75 card set of playables. the card quantity is fine. Thoughtseize would have been nice, but hardly what I'm insisting on. What I would've liked was to see certain cards, which likely will turn into either coasters or proxies not get printed such as the countryside crushers, the rude awakening, and related, and instead print far more cards that are seeing play in the various formats such as legacy, modern, standard and EDH. An increased emphasis on EDH, which is far more flexible would have been great. I just find this set has still managed to print a large number of cards people just won't use.

The proportion of cards that see constructed play in MM is easily more than 100% larger than a regular standard set. Given that MSRP for a regular standard set booster is $4, and MM is around $10-12, you are still getting a better deal than most set releases. Secondly, find better cards to bash than Crushers or Figure of Destiny. Crusher is extremely under-rated in modern, and see play in both legacy/modern aggro loam.

MSRP is $8, actually. If stores charge more, it's because they suck.

Him: "how are you supposed to win?" Me: "boredom"
he did win 14 turns later though. I commend him for sticking with it.

Yeah, I'm figuring I just got an exceptionally crappy box. I got a few of the good cards, but no goyfs, and at best 1 sword of fire and ice, the rest was just crap. Got only maybe 6 of the money uncommons in total too.

had the luckiest pack opening day of my near 20 year mtg playing life.played a sealed: tarmogoyf foil sword of light and shadow vendilion clique kitchen finks kira spell snare I think this set is a gambler's dream. On average, not sure you'll make value at 225 a box (if you are looking to sell stuff). If you are looking to play with your cards, and you were going to go out and purchase modern cards the value is there.

WOTC said the box was worth $170. It's the player base who determined the price of them. Stores couldn't have charged so much for them if people weren't paying that for them. Maybe I got extremly lucky (rare wise, i know I got lucky on mythics). In my 3 boxes (i got them at msrp) I pulled: foil goyf foil clique foil glen elendra 2 dark confidant doubling season cryptic command protogenesis 3 non foil cliques 3 light and shadows pretty much 1 of EVERY rare just about minus a few and mostly doubles of alot like glimmervoids, ravager, vial, acedemy ruins, kira, blinkmoth, bridges, engineered explosives. (this doesn't count the common and uncommon foils like witness, helix, and a few others) The one thing I will say I did get extremely lucky with the mythics as I got all extremly wanted cards with the exception of yosei.

Paid 226 shipped for mine. Going to do two four man drafts with friends. Should be fun times. Plus almost all of it will be for trade because I ready have a playset of mearly everything in the set. The only notable exception is SoFI.

There's one store here selling it at MSRP, and they were sold out of everything via preorders long ago. There's another store here that sells it for 12.95/pack and 290/box and has plenty in stock.

One store in my area is selling for $17.50 a pack, I didn't even bother asking Box prices I hung up, since I knew at least 2 other stores charging less ( 1 at $250 box, other $12.50 a pack).
