It's certainly true that free programs seem to attract those people; by the same token, they attract a wider player base. By and large, I suspect the people who behave that way (and worse) are usually quite young.
I try to call them out on their unacceptable behaviour--which is hard if they just immediately quit--in an effort to get them to reflect on it, at least at some point (even if it's only years later). The hope is that the lesson will eventually sink in if they keep encountering good role models willing to stand up to their antisocial/bigoted behaviour. It's probably in vain, but I think we're all worse off if nobody bothers. Who else is going to call them out on it, after all? __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. Beats the alternative by miles. You can't proxy on MTGO, and you still get ragers/quitters on MTGO in about the same ratio. The only difference is that for cockatrice, you can move on to another game in seconds. Cockatrice in particular works quite well for testing purposes, even when you have to deal with ragers.

So they banded Blood Braid Elf a while back and this took a card out of Jund's arsenal. GP Detroit had 6 Jund decks in the top 8. Is there going to be more bannings or was GP Detroit more of an anomaly?

Fetches, Thoughtseize and Deathrite of course /sarcasm Maybe they should unban something like Wild Nacatl then Jund probably would not dominate like it is now. If they ban anything else from Jund I think it'd be Lilly. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario and Canada 9th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

Nderwife and I were late coming back from our cruise, so we just picked up our prerelease stuff and came home. Last night we had our own little event. Between the two of us, with just our sealed pools, we had 2 gods (Thassa and Helios), 2 planeswalkers (Ariok and the rg one), 2 Sylvan Caryatids and one of the crappy duals. Not too bad, I think.__________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! Report rules violations. If Americans are smart shipping is only $3 or less minus tracking to Canada. I do not mind shipping overseas and included it is my prices. If that helps you add me to your list.

I totally agree. And, unfortunately, I do think it's in vain, at least in the online eviroment sadly. At the Theros pre-release, I overheard a group of I assume regulars making jokes about people dying of diabeties. So I guess all in all it makes me sad for people who belong in groups (or play groups) that laugh or ridicule straight/gay/black/white/male/female/aids/diabeties/cancer/etc.. especially since the groups I've been happy to be associated with in one form or another included straight/gay/black/white/male/female/aids/diabeties/cancer/etc.. quote: Originally posted by Zeckk: The only difference is that for cockatrice, you can move on to another game in seconds. No one plays 2/3 on Cockatrice unless they win G1 and lose G2. If they lose G3 they berate you. If they win G3, it's usually worse. quote: Originally posted by AEther Storm: Things you never knew about Magic Cards or where their name came from: ...
That's pretty cool and I never really thought were it came from. But the old cards had that cool reailty stuff on them. Still have my set of Stone Throwing Devils. And, they are still cool as ever. Oh, and the wife and I will be in Belgium over the Holidays. Might make it up to the Netherlands for a day or two. Beer?

Sounds a bit like my LGS, although one of the guys joking around is a Type 1 diabetic, another is a gay man who is dying slowly from a genetic condition. Having spoken at length, with both of them, they prefer to joke and ridicule their conditions, as opposed to constantly facing the horror of the reality. I'm sure that most of our conversations sound horrible and insensitive from the outside, but it does help these individuals feel normal (if you get a group of men or teenage boys together, they will tend to give each other a lot of crap). It makes me sad when someone judges a group based on preconceived notions (one that contains white/black/Cambodian/Korean/Russian/Portuguese/Chinese/Jewish/Christian/Atheist/biracial/diabetic/gay/straight/male/female/transgender/disabled/rich/poor people); there's a big difference between hate/condescension and joking around between friends.

Apparently it's not enough that I've stopped playing Magic locally, they still find a way to make me sad for them. How does someone who's trying to become a pro player and thinks they're doing pretty well STILL think that you can play both Theros and Innistrad cards this FNM, but THEN Innistrad is out? I'm torn between my desire to ignore them and leave them to their own destruction and my wish for a local playgroup to be semi-competent even if I'm not playing there anymore.__________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Does MOTL have any rules on filing a Paypal claim before the issue at heart is resolved in a BTA? Seems like it's just a way to get an end-run on a situation someone doesn't like. Although I guess it is a bit of a coin-flip as to whether the claim goes in your favor or not.

I think its always prudent to open the Paypal claim because the time the BTA takes will likely be longer than the time you have to open a paypal claim. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario and Canada 9th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

The only time I can recall where it's been an issue for a PayPal claim to be filed while a BTA case was open was in a case where the buyer had clearly waived liability for lost or damaged mail, then went ahead and stole the money back via PayPal anyway. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Well this type of incident came to my mind and is why I asked. What was the result of that incident?

For an incident I recall, the guy kept the money he stole through Paypal and got banned here.

Bought a Theros box.Wife opened one of the packs with a Purphoros AND FOIL Nylea in it. Woot! Also cracked a Thoughtseize and a FOIL Thoughtseize. That was about it for highlights. Check my list if interested in trading. --Evil __________________ I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

Reinforcing the truism that aggro is the best bet for a post-rotation meta. (I say truism because while it's usually true that a smaller card pool favors aggressive strats, the SCG open had more than a few control lists in the top 8, and I have a hunch that control is going to be the "archetype to beat" for the next few months).
