I don't mind if its a colleague but when its someone who has power over me like she does, that's awkward. Especially since I regularly post the rudest, crudest crap on facebook and have no intention of changing.

Turn down the request.

If you feel that a response is necessary, simply say that you only use FB for personal and not professional reasons and that you don't "friend" people from work.

Friending this person could be dangerous. I don't recommend it. My boss is on FB and we're friendly at work, but I would never consider friending him on FB. That's just not healthy.

I got tired of Meijer after about a month there. Part of that was the union I was paying dues to that didn't do anything- I didn't even have a number to call a rep, or know what the union was called. I got tired of BD's, too, because I kept getting shoved around between positions after the original GM left and was stuck without a position to work. LJS was best because I had a fairly regular schedule, work that was satisfying and fun, and people I could talk to as co-workers. I didn't ever get tired of working there, and in fact I took a couple months of going to the busier location in our area to help them out. Toys R Us was just not a good fit. I think it's because I believe in treating customers with respect and not shoving everything in the store down their throats when they want to buy a $2 toy, or that I believe in open, honest pricing. I didn't mind the cashier gig, though.

I'm starting to talk to local friends + grandpa about looking for work here. Gramps thinks I should get a job locally to save up enough to play Magic and not have to worry about $ for awhile when I move. I have no idea where I would use any of my degrees locally, but I suppose it's worth a look.

I'm glad the suggestion to look into sponsors helped. I just don't know that many based in the US that are focused enough on sponsoring that it would lead to a job; Razer was probably the only one, but at least it could start you on another bunch of companies to look at.

As far as running some sort of business, you can always just deal with Magic cards. Buying/re-selling. It's not something I'd do long-term or anything but probably more to bridge the gap between graduation & finding a job you want. I started with <$1,000 in paypal funds with another $1,000 worth of cards to sell and the last time I valued my collection it was around 18k if I sold everything individually, and this was in about 8 months time (about 30-40% of it has either been sold or is pending by now). Profits aren't going to be very high without turning it into a full-time job with some sort of store-front (even if it's just an eBay store) though. It's also something you can just drop as soon as you don't feel like doing it anymore--just stop sourcing for more stuff to buy, and sell off whatever you still have in stock.

Long day of death by powerpoint from Rheinmetall.

The presenters are an Austrian guy and a very french Canadian guy which makes for a pretty entertaining duo of mispronunciations though.

Ah well, hopefully the powerpoint segment of the week is over tommorow and we can get into the meat of the subject.

Made the mistake of going to this place called Curds Poutinery for lunch, never been charged $2 for a slice of bacon and $2 for a slice of cheese before, eh, it was good but I think my guts will be bound up for a month. Ow. My burger and onion rings ended up costing the better of a $20... which was disapointing.

Just thinking of it now... but it seems very strange that we're now buying weapons from the same company the made the guns that shot at my grandfather in WW2 though.

Why is the post office so stingy with customs forms?

I went to the closest branch and the lady there handed me ONE, and I told her that I had five to mail out, so I needed four more. She told me that they didn't have many left, so I'd have to drive to the next closest one and ask them for forms.

I drove to the other place and told her I need four more and she hands me TWO. I asked her, "I need one form for each, right?"

"Yes."

"Then, can I have two more for the others I need to mail?"

"Sigh... okay, here. Take the whole stack of my forms, but leave the ones you don't use on the table."

It's not like I'm asking for free packaging materials and as soon as I'm done addressing them, I'm getting in line and giving them my money to mail these things. I spent almost $20 today, but they sure were persnickety with me today, like I ripped them off and were the cause of their budget problems or something.

I don't know what's up with yours. There's 4-5 post offices within reasonable distance/on my way to work here and I think all of them have this place where they just put a ton of every single form and express/priority mail envelopes & boxes for you to take as you wish, and there's usually more than enough.

odd, my post office hands me stacks of them to make sure I fill them out before I come in so I'm not having to fill it out at the counter. I have mostly stopped using the forms tho. I downloaded the USPS postal assistant thing and it prints a combination mailing label/customs form that I just stock onto my envelope, but it doesn't print postage. I have to buy postage for them when I drop them off, but nothing to fill out and they just scan the barcode on the label for customs numbers and such.

Anyone here can help me quickly?

What are the 'approximation' for a registered shipping + signature from Canada to Canada,
and Canada to USA?

I'm trying to set up a sale list, and would like to give a small idea to the purchaser Also, for the Canadian sellers, are the buyers willing to pay our high shipping fee? (I recall when I used to be active, nobody would believe me when I said that registered costed over 10$)

Gotta love Tom Martell thinking he can throw his weight around in here... if it even really is him.

I can serve as a back-up plan for this... got about $30 in quarters in my work desk drawer (lunch change built up for months lol). I should have one in there and have no problem sending it your way in a PWE. I'll check tomorrow morning.

He has a point.

Why pay the same for less? eBay provides buyer protection, and MOTL doesn't. eBay doesn't force you to buy insurance to be protected, which you do. I don't understand why this is so hard to grasp for some of us.

However, in this case, he wants quite a bit of stuff from you, which if he buys from you instead of eBay, he could probably save a lot from shipping, unless he could find an eBay seller who has all the stuff that you are offering and get a combined shipping.

Obviously, it's up to him to decide if it is worthwhile to have less protection for the benefit of saving a few dollars in shipping, but I don't think he is out of line at all.

The part that makes him "out of line" is that this isn't eBay. When in Rome, do as the Romans do (or GTFO of Rome, lol).

In other words, we don't go to where he works and demand his products for less because the Chinese manufacture it for less. It's pretty much the same thing.

Does he have a point? Sure. But why is he here if he knows he can get it for less on eBay? The answer is because he's just haggling. That's what makes MAB_Rapper right and Mr. Pro Player "wrong".

He makes offers of 15-25% less on everything he wants and then insults the seller for rejecting that offer and giving his reasoning why.

Yeah, he's a great buyer.

I'm not selling **** to him. Not with that attitude and not when he's already BTA'd someone.

Hello all! I'm back from a few-years long hiatus from the magic world, but it's good to see that nothing much has changed around here. I'll finally have dredge built as soon as my last few orders for cards come through, then its off to smashing tournaments I go.

Did you even read the BTA? I think he is completely reasonable with MAB_Rapper - is he not allowed to attempt to haggle for some reason?

Haggling seems fine, negative replies when turned down not so much...

Also doesn't MAB_Rapper: run a store? Making his point about Ebay even less relevant?

Add to everything that what he wanted isn't exactly in print type 2 nonfoils either....so *shrugs*

Think my upset on it, would be his remark when turned down, solves nothing and just looks bad.

I have no qualms with someone haggling. I have qualms with them not just being up front about it.

Counteroffers are great because it's a negotiation that is normally fruitful for both parties (motivated seller moves their cards, buyer potentially gets a break... win/win!)

Whining about where they can find everything for less is a waste of our time and an insult to our intelligence; otherwise, stop wasting our time and just go there, right? Crap or get off the pot.

Wow, you guys are harsh. So, none of you offer less than a posted price, ever? None of you ever haggle for a price? That's him "trying to throw his weight around here"? I don't see you complaining about baldr7 trying to "throw his weight around" in asking for a deal on the cards he wanted. I also fail to see the insult in that quote.. How was he insulting MAB? And have you READ the BTA case? You're telling me that were you in his position, you would have just paid NM price for a non-NM card, that you were told was NM, and showed pictures of that don't match the card you received?

You guys are sitting there, saying that he's being insulting because he's a pro, when in fact, you're holding him to standards you wouldn't hold anyone else to, because he's a pro.

And yes, that is the real Tom Martell.

Thanks,
Jazaray
