Yeah, that tripped me up a bit, since they showed the ST pic right after talking about the Theros cards being included. That said, I still believe the cycle fits the theme of the block very well and I would not be shocked to see them come back. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Of course original Jace won't drop a penny long term- it will only go up. But, as we saw with MM and the goyf announcement and as we are currently seeing with JTMS, people that know nothing about mtg finance dump first printings at slightly below market value (something like 20 BINs have gone up for $115 JTMS in the last 24 hours) because they think the market is crashing. If only I had some money, I could save ~10-12% off the real current price of non-foil JTMS.

Sorry to nitpick. I understand exactly what you mean; however, the "real current price" of anything IS the price it's currently selling for. Just because everybody expects it to go back up in short time doesn't make the current price imaginary.

Can someone explain this "hero" business? Is it part of the regular MTG game now, or part of some popular variant?__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. Its like Vanguard. You start off with it and can use it like a normal Vanguard card.

The problem is, I don't know what "Vanguard" is. I suspect that means it's basically nothing to do with the regular game then, right? __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. Nothing to do with the regular game. You can google for more info on Vanguard, but 'you start with it and can use it' kind of does sum it up. __________________ Want Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (foreign foil crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

It's a format, kind of like Commander or Archenemy that has it's own set of rules. The main rule is that everyone starts the game with their choice of one of several "Vanguard" cards that alter things such as starting life total, hand size, etc. as well as having a permanent game effect, such as drawing an extra card or making your creatures effectively Hexproof. I suspect that the Hero cards will play out more like Planechase or Archenemy, where you have a deck of them and when some condition, be it turn-based or triggered by some other event, you discard one and put the next one in the deck into play, or maybe something like as your life total drops or the Hydra gets stronger you add more of the Hero cards to the Command Zone or something. It seems that the Hero thing is a special event, and I'm sure that it won't have any effect on people playing Standard or Modern or any other "normal" format. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I'm not sure what you mean by "crazy." It seems completely normal. I used to listen to the Eh Team podcast when it came out. I recently went to mtgcast and couldn't find it anymore. Then Googled Eh Team and went to mana deprived and listened to one of their recent casts. You could see it coming from the way Medina was talking. quote: Originally posted by walkerdog: ???? Context.
Medina realized that MTG was taking up parts of his life that he wanted to devote to his spiritual needs and the needs of his marriage.

Extended will stop being an official format on October 9th (last available day for events is Oct 8th). They're even going so far as to remove the option from magic online - which seems entirely unnecessary.http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/other/07222013

Well, I actually mean more. But you can focus on whatever you want to since you're Jesus Christ and it's a free country. I mean more than just any physical infidelity. FWIW, even if he didn't cheat on his wife, for Medina, MTG was getting in the way of being the husband he wanted to be. It takes real balls to step away from something you're good at. Medina's probably really hurting. I don't use social media, but if I did, I wouldn't have put it out there so that jcmd or anyone else can blow it up. Or have twitter-verse spread rumors about whom he cheated with.

I agree. I don't know Medina personally....from what I've heard is he is a pretty big jerk at times. Still, the dude realized his faults, realized his marriage and family is suffering for it, and gave up what he loved to do for them....trying to fix everything. I don't care if my worst enemy was going through that...I'd still wish them luck. Family is everything in life. Good for him to prioritize his life accordingly and make it better. I wouldn't have probably put that out in the open for the trolls to feast but....whateva quote: Originally posted by JesusChristMD: And by needs of his marriage you mean "He will probably stop cheating on his wife"Fantastic day for twitter.
Everybody makes mistakes. Just like your parents did some X amount of years ago, when they decided to keep you instead of throw you in a dumpster behind the Wafflehouse parking lot you were concieved in. I don't fault people for the mistakes they make as a father, husband, person....neither should you, and I find it really lame that people would take to Twitter just to pile on somebody and their life problems.
Then again....that's what most people do. Bc most people are *******s.

I really don't want to start a flame war, but I couldn't let this pass. I don't know Medina at all, to the point I just found out he existed through this thread. But a couple of things... He put his life out there, he is going to be judged by people who disagree with the choices he made. That was also his choice, and don't be surprised when people scold him for his actions. This guy is not a hero for admitting his faults or quitting magic. I'm glad he is trying to get his life on track, but don't praise him for quitting a pastime most people treat as a hobby. Sometimes it's difficult to judge people like him fairly, seeing as he is leaving a place most people can only dream to be at. Finally, not to be overly righteous but... quote: Originally posted by daner:

really? You thought this was an appropriate response? I don't care if you were trying to be funny here, but you sound like a moron. You're defending a man who has admitted to doing wrong, yet you can't extend any sort of empathy to someone who views things a little differently than you?

From meeting him, talking to him online the winner of this change is every MTG player ever but I already feel for his poor wife will now have to spend endless time with him.

I am surprised that medina has such support from the MTG community overall. It really boggles the mind. When Tiger took a break from the game of golf, I didn't hear much support for him. I guess we are better than those golf-clappers? MTG doesn't like cheaters in the game, with almost a zero tolerance policy. However people are surprisingly supportive of Medina...
