I've been pretty "over" Magic for a while now. I used to joke that it was becoming Pokemon, with just dudes fighting dudes.

Then I played the Pokemon TCG Online. I was wrong. Pokemon is the more complex game. I actually get to do tons of fun things there, like draw cards and dig through my deck. There's actually some pretty neat gameplay with the Trainer cards.

It's like WotC is hellbent on shifting Magic from the Chess of TCG's to Chutes and Ladders.

Most long term players I know are extremely frustrated with the path Hasbro is taking.

Maybe I'll spend that money on comics...wait...I live in an apartment. To hell with that. Comics take up too much space.

Magic hates me

Lost to Monastery Mentor like 6 times in 10 drafts with KTK-FRF. Never opened anything good.

Try 3 DTK-FRF drafts lose twice to Dragonlord Ojutai.

I decide to try a 4 booster sealed of DTK. Opponent runs a 40 card deck, plays Deathmist Raptor first round, I win round two, manage to get into a winning board state round 3, and he top decks a foil Dragonlord Atarka for the win.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/45329373@N03/18206134636/in/dateposted-public/

I've been playing magic since 1994, opened ton of sealed from ton of different sets (even opened 2 Alpha starters) and have never pulled anything even as good as a foil Dragonlord Atarka lol

Do white and/or black have any 1-2 mana spells that deal with planeswalkers? I'm wondering what my options would be against Liliana on turn 3.

Mana Tithe. Tokens. Derps with haste. The spell that destroys target planeswalker from Theros.

If your opponent is in a heavy black deck, celestial purge out of the board is the only card that actually deals with liliana for less than 3 mana without meeting other conditions.

Edit: Despise/Thoughtseize also technically do that, kinda.

Go to 'My eBay' > 'Account' > 'Resolution Center'

I think most cases take 4 days before a representative attempts to handle it if the seller does not make a satisfactory attempt.

Well, I decided to splurge and reward my good college grades with a box of MMA2015 ($195 on ebay.)

I need a few things from it anyway; so I hope I open a Gruul Turf, or bust.

---------------------------

Box opening commentary - I was originally going to record it, and post it to my youtube channel - but I forgot to go to my parents house and borrow their camera and tripod. And I don't have a stand for my phone. And just sheer laziness is preventing that from happening as well....

To the box itself - seems terribly flimsy.... But I don't buy boxes for the cardboard on the outside. The plastic wrap appears to be legitimate, and intact - a quick swipe with my Buck 279 folding knife that I sharpened last week easily frees the plastic from its grasp on the box and I rip it off with a small amount of glee. I emphasize "small amount" because I'm fully prepared to be disappointed by the contents of this box.

With the box now fully open and its display in position, I tossed out the advert and cardboard insert, and prepare my wallet to have yet another reason to consider me mentally challenged; oh well - this is for the fun of gambling, and because I need a single copy of Gruul Turf. Its a shame that they didn't put any other non-basics into this set, like the L/S filters or something. WotC knew how to scam us this time for sure....anyway, on to the first pack - and may my luck return to me for this box. Because that one box of Journey I got, and of Gatecrash made me swear of boxes forever. Apparently, I can't even hold my self to my own word on gambling....*sigh.*

First pack, it is in my hands (or was, since I have to type this,) it's got a noble hierach on the front. Interesting to note, the three visible packs in the box all have the same art showing - and I don't know which card it is.

-foil Sylvan Bounty, Endrek, Smokebraider, Orzhov Basilica, and Azorius Chancery. I've already shot myself in the foot with my Glock and I'm thinking to myself, the rest of this box is terrible....isn't it?

Full box results, because I'm to lazy to narrate my feelings on this box crakin':

Now, I know I said I wasn't going to narrate anymore...but uh, pack two was rather delicious: Faerie Machinist, Thoughtcast, Muldrifter, Bitterblossom, foil Ulamog's Crusher. So, that's three cards I actually need. Not bad, and one good one:

Now, on to the results and no more commentary - for real this time:

Pack 3: Creakwood Liege, Pelakka Wurm, foil Plagued Rusalka

Pack 4: Ulamog's Crusher, Splinter Twin, foil Smokebraider, Insect token (surprisingly, I needed the token.)

Pack 5: Precursor Golem, foil Plaxcaster Frogling (eewww pack.)

Pack 6: Mirran Crusader, foil Vampire Lacerator (ewww pack.)

Pack 7: Selesyna Sanctuary, Scube Mob, foil Pelakka Wurm (very thin top border miscut)

Pack 8: Everflowing Chalice, Ant Queen, foil Water Servant (trash pack)

Pack 9: Endrek, foil Darksteel Axe ( why the put Endrek in this set, I have no idea. I wish I never bought this box; I should have just bought singles like a smart person.)

Pack 10: Golgari Rot Farm, Rampant Growth, Precursor Golem, foil Wolfbrair Elemental (my rare foil of the box, and its trash.)

Pack 11 (I'm sobbing now) : Izzet Boilerworks, Ant Queen, foil Skyhunter Skirmisher

Pack 12: Dimir Aqueduct, Expedition Map, Mirran Crusader, foil Commune with Nature (my tears are pooling on the floor, its about ankle deep now.)

Pack 13: Remand, Spellskite, foil Rusted Relic.

Pack 14: Ulamog's Crusher, Reassembling Skeleton, Splinter Twin, foil Kami of the Ancient Law.

Pack 15: Izzet Boilerworks, Lightning Bolt, Hurkyl's Recall, foil Thrumming Bird.

Pack 16: Necrogenesis, Everflowing Chalice, Profane Command, foil Stormblood Berserker

Pack 17: Dimir Aqueduct, Muldrifter, Shadowmage Infiltrator, foil Inner-Flame Igniter

Pack 18: Hikari, Goyf, foil Dread Drone. I should probably stop opening packs, and sell the rest now. My luck is gone for the next two years.

Pack 19: Spikeshot Elder, foil Skyreach Manta (worst pack, ever.)

Pack 20: Rampant Growth, Ulamog's Crusher, Golgari Rot Farm, Spectral Procession, Mystic Snake, foil Darksteel Citadel

Pack 21: Rampant Growth, Spitebellows, Creakwood Liege, foil Vapor Snag.

Pack 22: Rampant Growth, Electrolyze, Shadowmage Infiltrator, foil Bone Splinters

Pack 23: Artistan of Kozilek, Hurkyl's Recall, foil Azorius Chancery

Pack 24: Rakdos Carnaium, Surrakur Spellblade, foil Guile.

Well, **** this box, and everything WotC stands for. not a single goddamn Gruul Turf? HOW?

Box value : ?

Foil Guile: 2.00
Foil Azorius Chancery: 3.50
Foil Vapor Snag: 3.00
Foil Darksteel Citadel: 4.75
Foil Ulamog's Crusher: 1.75
Lightining Bolt - 2.00
Electrolyze - 2.00
Remand - 8.00
2 Mirran Crusader - 2 ea. (4.00)
Spellskite - 18.00
2 Splinter Twin - 16 ea. (32.00)
2 Hurkyl's Recall - 4 ea. (8.00)
2 Creakwood Liege - 3 ea. (6.00)
Mystic Snake - 2.00
Scute Mob - 1.00
Tarmagoyf - 160.00
Bitterblossom - 32.00
-----
Total of notables: ~290

So, what is the lesson: If you don't open a Goyf, or a foil good mythic or rare, prepare your anus for a hard-learned lesson in finance.

(p.s. the Goyf and Bitterblossom are for trade in my thread; as is most of the other stuff.

So I was checking buy lists for some cards when I happened to see that Snapcaster Mage was over $50. So I checked the TCG mid on it and literally sprayed my monitor with the cranberry juice I was drinking. Seriously WTF is going on? Is this all about Grixis Twin/Delver?

I'm guessing Snapcaster's price has to do with the Grixis decks (Twin, Delver, Control) all playing 3-4 Snapcasters, and that we may have to wait until Modern Masters 3 for a reprint

Yes-ish.

Edit: More people play Magic now than when Innistrad came out. This drives up all prices.

The price started rising faster as soon as they announced MM2105 would not include Innistrad block.

It is the best blue creature in modern and multiples are played in almost all blue decks.

Modern is increasing in popularity again thanks to the MM2015 hype-train.

Modern PPTQ season is upon us so demand for competitive modern cards is especially high.

If the demand for modern increases as people get their hands on staples through MM2015 packs, you're going to see the prices of staples that have not seen an increase in supply through reprints rise significantly.

I guess it looked like that.

I will say that the high price of modern staples is something people need to stop complaining about (not to say the first guy was complaining, but a lot of people just bicker about how everything's too expensive).

I can justify spending 60 dollars on a card that won't ever rotate. On the other hand, the fact that my Ojutais cost 18 dollars each and I know they'll be worthless one day; that's frustrating.

I really shouldn't have scoffed at $5 Heritage Druids. These price spikes are crazy. Heritage Druid is higher than Arcbound Ravager now. $25 uncommons and $12 commons in Modern. Methinks WotC's reprint policy is ****.

I'm having a hard time making a decision. I'm seriously considering selling off the Playset Collection Project. I haven't played anything other than random pre/release tourneys in years, and I honestly don't really think that will change. The money would be nice, but it's hard to give up on a project that I've been working on for almost 20 years. I'm so torn!

estimate what you think you'll get for it. make a list of how you're going to use the money. decide whether it'll make you happy enough to outweigh the project's worth to you.

sometimes the money just isn't going to go further than the satisfaction of pushing yourself closer and closer to your goal.

i think giving yourself a cutoff point and then selling off whatever was printed after that point might be a good way to keep the original intention of the project without having a never-ending task on your plate.

Being in a similar situation, I recently did something similar myself. I dropped all copies of everything to 1 with the exception of lands that produce two or more types of mana (I kept those at 4). Making this change has allowed me to get some music production stuff I had been eyeing for a while, along with several pieces of P9 that I would otherwise never have been able to acquire. Thanks to this I am now down to a want list of 6 cards in total (my goal is to have one of everything, excluding Portal and Starter). I was able to condense the binders on my shelf and I think my collection looks much more handsome for it.

My buddies and I still play weekly, a mix of EDH and draft/cube, but I have not once missed having multiple copies of any card. I am also super happy with how I shifted the funds, both in MTG and other stuff. Your mileage may vary but I do not regret this decision at all. Had I sold everything, well, that would be a different story...good luck!
