Really? I played Morrowind and all of it's expansions and absolutely hated it. I honestly could not think of one redeeming quality about it outside of the size of the game world. I enjoyed Oblivion much more. As for Bioshock, I enjoyed it but it was very linear. I haven't played Bioshock 2 yet, but I've heard mixed reviews.

Morrowind over Oblivion:

* The game world is more expansive.
* The story is better in Morrowind. It also has intertwining storylines, where being a member of multiple guilds will cause conflicts of interest. Oblivion = go into a bunch of these portals that follow 5 templates. Morrowind: Travel this huge, massive world, going through various places that all look different to solve the game.
* Getting a home that gets bigger over time, as you advance, makes you feel more involved in the world, like you own a place in there.
* Where did enchanting go...?
* I like the system of "if i kill the owner of a house i can use their house as my own" better than "the owner of the house is dead, but it's still trespassing to go into their house even if no one sees me go in or out" thing.
* In Oblivion, you don't really feel like the focus of the story. You're just a bystander, helping the lead character find his way through the game. In Morrowind, you are the Chosen One, the destroyer of gods, uniting two societies.
* The menu system is easier to use and more intuitive.
* No "enemies scaling to your level" nonsense making it worthless to level up.

Oblivion over morrowind:
* Graphics
* Fast Travel > mark/recall

I agree with you here. But IMO it's too big, which is very possible. You don't want to drown the player with scenery.

I thought both stories were standard fantasy fare and nothing to write home about. Although I agree with you about the Guild thing - How can I be the leader of all the guilds in Oblivion, PLUS a member of the Blades, PLUS Champion of Cyrodil, PLUS King of a Daedric realm (The Shivering Isles). As for the world size...look above.

Eh. This didn't really matter much to me.

Whenever you finished an Oblivion Gate, you got a stone thing that you could use to enchant weapons or armor. So...that's where it went. Very watered down.

I mean, unless you have the deed to the house, you don't really own it per se...
Technicality aside, this didn't really effect me. Mostly because I didn't care. But, that's just me.

Two different stories, two different priorities for each main character. In Morrowind you're the chosen one. In Oblivion, you're a lucky one. Although why you always start in prison is a mystery to me...

From what I recall, the menus felt very similar so I guess that's just your personal preference.

That's just the difference in systems they were on. But yeah, Oblivion looked much nicer over all.

THANK JESUS FOR FAST TRAVEL!

In the end, Morrowind is more "hardcore" and Oblivion is more "user friendly". And for that reason I'll always like Oblivion more. I found it so easy to sink hundreds of hours into it, while in Morrowind I couldn't invest myself into it as much.

Travel in morrowind meant that by jumping the entire game i coudl eventually jump over houses.

Oh, and no NPC left alive on the entire continent except for the secret merchant guy who buys the thousands of dishes I steal from each house.

The great thing about merchants in morrowind is that you can sell them tons of stuff, then kill them, and take all of your stuff back and then some.

I love the part where its like "help me find me sword" and then I find it, and then kill him and keep the sword.

That's one of my few qualms about Oblivion... I just killed a shopkeeper that I sold 10K+ worth of stuff too...where did the stuff go?

I don't really consider myself "hardcore"... but definitely more content = better for an RPG (I played RuneScape over Diablo 2 for years on the premise that more stuff to do besides combat + a bigger game world = better). I can clearly see that story isn't your thing AG, which makes me wonder why you were playing an RPG in the first place... but for those of us who do like story, it's not just about the story but how it's presented. In Oblivion I never really felt like my character was growing, either in strength or importance in the game world. That is important to me, because I mean... it's like acting... I'm just some random nobody. What's my motivation? "Some crazy old man on his death bed told me to go somewhere" is what convinces me to embark on a dangerous journey as Robin to the real main character's Batman? No thanks...

I also found the oblivion realms boring on the level of why I stopped playing Diablo 2- just the same thing every time.

The weird thing about the Alchemy system is that I never explored it, and never knew you could jump across the continent until I had played the game for 400 hours and gone back to look for a community to suggest other games. I find that nobody really understands my criteria for games, so I was looking for like-minded individuals to give me ideas... anyway, I found that maxing out Enchanting and Short Blades made me good enough that I didn't need, or want, to do crazy things like go infinite on potions.

I play RPGs for the open world, sandbox-ness of it. The feeling of being able to go anywhere and do anything, and have it all go smoothly. In Oblivion, I'm able to do just that and the colors are amazing, as is the gameplay. Yes, the same voices are overused and most of the character palates too, but that's only a minor detail (for me). If I wanted a truly engrossing story, I would've read a book. I went in to Oblivion (originally) expecting a next-gen game and I got exactly what I wanted (when it first released). Why am I still playing it 6 years after I got it? Because there's still more for me to find. Yeah, quests become the same "fetch/clear out a dungeon/stalk someone" after a while, but the presentation and the execution of it is still superb (IMO). I personally cannot wait until Skyrim or Fallout 4, because Bethesda has raised the bar on the RPGs and have not let me down yet.

I played Morrowind for 400 hours, without even playing the first DLC. I played Oblivion for ~75 hours, and was too bored with the game to play the DLCs. I found everything worth finding in that time. Morrowind kept me exploring.

Bethesda has let me down, especially with fallout 3. I only played that for around 40 hours before i was bored and tired of it, and the ending was the second-worst ending of any game I've played in modern times (N64 and later). But, Morrowind is still my favorite RPG, and Oblivion is a massively-distant third (excluding MMORPGs, in which case I would rank RuneScape higher for having a bigger world with more to do, but not as much as the absolutely massive Morrowind; Planescape: Torment is #2), so I still hope Bethesda will deliver in the Elder Scrolls series.

Haven't given it up, but Portal 2 is at the top of my playlist right now. So good.

For that matter, I still need to play all the DLC I downloaded for Mass Effect 2 by the time ME3 comes out >.> I should really get on that...

Due to a fluke, I personally pay nothing (and nobody pays for me either). But I think the cost is like $60 a year and theres all sorts of deals to get it cheaper.

Sign up for a family account. Its 4 accounts for $100 and they can be moved to other xboxes. I have 2, my wife 1, and my brother 1. makes it WAY cheaper than getting 4 separate ones at 60 a pop.

I wonder if my Modern Warfare 2 account is gonna be all screwed if Playstation Network ever gets back up?

Also, the wifey got into the game so she's totally freaking out because she can't "kill some bastards". =)

Me; I'm being patient because I still remember a time when umm... you just played a game without having to be "online"... sometimes with 3 other actual people sitting actually right next to you!

Anybody every download the Westeros mod for Medieval 2: Total War? Thoughts? Opinions? Just discovered this and I'm pretty stoked about the prospect.
