Unless they introduce a new card type, almost anything else that would count day and night would really suck. Odd/even permanents, life total, cards in graveyard, would all be annoying

Yar! Also, werewolves seem like a sure bet if there's a Day/Night mechanic. And there's definitely potential for some awesome stuff there, especially flavour-wise.

The colonial America comment is spot on. Sort of a darker version of the world portrayed by Washington Irving with a little Brahm Stoker mixed in for good measure.

The only Night and Day thing I see working possibly is based on turn, during your upkeep, it switches your permanents.Pre and Post Combat main phase won't work, because then the Night phase would include your opponents turn, so night would be 3 times as long as day, unless thats including your opponents pre and post combat main, which makes it all the more confusing. I really hope it isn't split, but from the attached link, it doesn't look to be that way. Seeing from the picture provided, it looks like a card is night from the beginning. Again, like Mirran or Phyrexian, but maybe it MATTERS. Maybe other cards reference "Deal X damage and gain X life. X is the number of Night permanents you own" or "When you play a day permanent, gain 1 life." Very restricted cards outside of the block, but could be interesting. Odd/Even, Life Totals, Permanents in play would be WAY too confusing with the stack. Games would be very long. Even if it dealt with cards in graveyards (going with graveyard matters theme), flashback would make it difficult as well with the stack, with regards to instants. Maybe a threshold type ability? Still going with my first guess though. __________________ -Schmitty 7th in Refs [193] in OH-IO (Catching up to jmedina) 2nd in Posts [5887] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

All I can think of is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer.

I think it's better than having mechanics that stink and last for one set (eg Radiance).

Yeah, Mountain? Island? Plains? What's up with that? They do a mechanic like basic lands in almost every set these days.

I don't think they would do that, it feels too much like phasing to me - and I don't recall anyone liking phasing that much . I read somewhere it makes sense if they are based upon lands played, i.e. like snow-covered basics, but that have a type night/day. When a player plays one of the aforementioned types, it switches back. Further, I think they could base it on a switch when you play a spell, that turns it into night/day. Like say "R - Night Shock, Do 2 damage to target creature or player; Transform - it becomes night." Or something like that anyway. __________________ <Liq> you just can't expect a sig worthy line to appear out of nowhere on demand <stacker> i dont hang out with the patients afterwards, we got nurses for that "Basically, if you ever find yourself daisy-chaining multiple dongles together, you must be doing pretty well in life."

They need to stop reprinting basics, it's getting old.

WotC insider spoiler. Anyway, can't locate an actual quote, so I'm putting it off as an unsubstantiated rumor.

I wonder if we might actually see Delve and Tombstalker coming up--maybe not in Innistrad itself, but in the block.__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. And it's taking up space in each block instead of putting in real cards like flight. So my suggestion is that if they really want to keep on printing basics, at least conserve some space and put them all together in one card...these idiots at wizards.

Basics are way better than most commons in packs. You'll always have use for a Mountain. Try getting some mileage out of Reflexes, or Mindless Null.

Especially those beautiful full-art basics from Zendikar. I never minded opening those. Opening regular basics, on the other hand... well, I'm ambivalent. It doesn't excite me, but it's a free extra card, so... __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. Back when Zendikar first come out, I would start drafting the lands around 8th-9th pick if there are nothing useful, even for hating purpose.

I'll get you a sick deal on bulk commons if ya want.

I am always happy to grab lands. Whether they're pack droppings on the draft table, or in my own packs, or whatever else. It's always nice to have a pile of them. Hey lets draft! Oh crap, no lands. Naw dudes/dudettes, I got you covered. I guess it's because I used to run a lot of limited tournaments back in college, so having 400 forests is nice to me. I can imagine someone who only needs maybe 80 of them going, aww man, another forest?

The promo style front and back werewolf card has the human version with the day / sun symbol top left by it's name and a moon / night symbol on the werewolf version, which is jumping through the same stained glass window shown in the human version of the card. Wizards doesn't make too many mistakes, so hopefully the day night mechanic is done well.

I would like to see tombstalker and tarmogoyf come back. With Zendikar gone Lands will not be easily put into the graveyard and there are no tribal cards. I feel like tombstalker will be there, but goyf is like a glimpse of hope.
