Exorcist doesn't even make sense, flavourwise. How does a random rat or robber die from some random priest?

By itself, the art reminds me of Magic's early years and embodies the history of M:tG artwork. The design team has really done a wonderful job capturing the nostalgic flavor in my opinion.

As someone who rarely plays Magic any more and has absolutely hated almost all of the recent blocks from a lore/art/style/theme standpoint, this is the first time in a LONG while that I've actually been interested enough in a set that I might go to a few drafts again. The art direction with this set already has me interested. The Dark is my all time favorite set, partly because of nostalgia because I was just a kid then starting to get into MTG, but also because the flavor of the set was just awesome. This reminds me a bit of that, though obviously done in a "newer MTG" sort of way. We'll see what comes of it, but I don't even care if the set is weak and the cards suck if the art and flavor of the set are as cool as what's been released thus far!

I'm already super happy.1) Flashback 2) Flashback between Colors (Travel Preparations) 3) More +1/+1 Counter cards (Travel Preparations.Mikaeus, the Lunarch) meaning interaction with prolifirate. 4) Werewolves and Vampires, hopefully not the Twilight kind 5) Bloodgift Demon (Phyrexian Arena on a creature) __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 10000+ posts 3rd in posts in Ontario 15th in posts on MOTL Top 5 in Refs in Ontario (by people who location posted)

That's to be expected with Richard Garfield in the design team.

Same here. The cards themselves aren't much to get excited over (barring Maze of course) but the art in that set was extremely well done I thought. I'll probably try and put together a complete set of Innistrad in foil since I am liking the theme and art so far.

You have hit the nail on the head; this is exactly how I feel. I agree, the set could suck, but I'm already buying into it. This is the first time in a long while that I can't wait for a set to come out. EDIT: I should also mention, I think it would a good place for Recurring Nightmare to, well, recur.

Would rather have the shock duals, but those will work.

Soo, the transform cards have 2 printed sides, and no normal magic back. I dislike immensely. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/157a __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? Wow, different card backs? Boy that is ever so awkward. I think we all knew it was one of those cool things that they couldn't do for logistic reasons but I guess not!Next up: the color purple.

Different card backs are incredibly stupid. So I have to de-sleeve it after I play it?

What exactly was wrong with Flip? That's exactly what these are. Why not just bring it back?

This is exactly what I was thinking. 2-sided cards are pretty annoying for drafting. __________________ |My Angels~My P9 l""|"\__, |~~My #1 Angel~~l'_|'_|_|) |(@)(@)""***|(@)(@)**|(@)

Garruk Relentless is likely a Planeswalker and since it Transforms, that solves the 5 loyalty ability Planeswalker riddle. After reading about the mechanics and seeing how flavorful the example cards are, I really think this set is going to rock. The cards are oozing with flavor and I really enjoy the idea of Transform (though tracking the triggers might get annoying). The curses look like they will be fun and fight is a sweet evergreen rules term. At first I was skeptical that they could make this work but now I am not only optimistic but excited. I find the horror genre is one where most things just suck because it's hard to do good Horror well. There is tons of chaff in Horror, maybe even moreso than Fantasy, and I was afraid that this set might just be more chaff. Suffice to say, I don't think this is on the chaff side (though we have but a handful of cards so I could be wrong, but given the track record of the design/development team, I highly doubt it. I have a lot of faith in Dr. Garfield and Mr. Rosewater). I will definitely be going to a pre-release for this one. edit: quote: Originally posted by Volcanon: What exactly was wrong with Flip? I find flip cards to be incredibly ugly and the limited size makes designing interesting flip cards an unnecessary challenge. This way they have more design space to work with, along with a more clear indication of what state the card is in (night vs day). The checklist that is included in packs solves the play problem to some extent and it is a pretty interesting solution. This mechanic might turn out to be a pain to implement while playing but if it gives us better/more interesting cards, I think that's worth it.

Nah. Nothing will make me think this isn't crap. Half the time I don't draft with sleeves. I don't want to play with no stupid checklist either. I sincerely hope that none of these are tournament playable in any meaningful way so that I don't ever have to play with them.

Same here. The set can suck and be The Dark 2, but I think it's awesome so far. I love the flavor in it. Now let's hope they do a revisit to Jamuraa. __________________ #2 in posts from British Columbia!Got any Portuguese Foils? Post on my list or email me at valter.cid@gmail.com !
