Hope so, this guy is someone I'd never want to play, watching his games...its sickens me how he does whatever it takes to win, cheat, harass or whatever else he has done..

Though one, the foil is for once good looking.

I cannot speak to whether Alex is a cheat. I will, however, offer my perspective on this one video.
I was not the judge sitting on feature matches during this event, but I was sent in to take the call where Alex failed to return cards from Brainstorm. I spoke to both players pretty extensively (that's why they cut back to the commentators for a bit) and got no indication that it was anything other than Alex being caught up in a counterspell war over a critical spell. On the second offense of drawing 4 cards with Brainstorm (almost immediately following the other Brainstorm call), I have watched this segment repeatedly to be sure, but I am convinced there are only 3 cards. The illusion that there are 4 is caused by a fold in the sleeve of the bottom card as it bends when he's picking the cards off the table. I took a sequence of captures from the video, which show 3 cards on the table as he pulls them up to his hand then what appears to be a 4th card appear out of the middle of the bottom card (the fold). 4 card brainstorm All of that said, it's entirely possible that his repeated mistakes are actually because he's a great big cheaty cheaterface or he could just be super sloppy. I can't say for sure one way or the other. It's also possible (likely?) that some of his actions were intentional and others are sloppy play which look bad from someone who has been caught in other intentional actions. Time will tell, and if he's a cheater I hope he slips up big time and gets the ban hammer. If he's just being a sloppy player, I hope he fixes that and goes on to have a great career in Magic.

Almost forgot the reason I came to this thread. Congrats to zakman86, who was promoted to Level 2 judge this weekend.

Dear Meddling Pimp,Good players don't make that many sloppy plays. Sincerely, Speed Demon. (Edit: I say this with no bias towards any side. I have never met/played Alex nor have I ever played/met Drew. Seeing is believing. When there is smoke there is fire.)

That's certainly not an unreasonable view to hold.

Paranoid here, but is that sarcasm? I mean, I don't think it's sarcasm since you didn't post the rolling eyes emoticon, but just want to make sure.

I will also say that in the case of the KC video, Alex immediately answering the "What turn is it question" with "Two explores" is very telling that he knew there was an issue with how many lands he played.

Haha, that is pretty good. It's obvious that he has 4 cards from the regular picture, but that really highlights it. The article is pretty damning. I don't think the DCI can let him go any more.
http://mixedknuts.wordpress.com/ Thanks, fixed it, even though it's hideous, it works.

One of the corners in this pic is the corner of the crease. In the right half, the third line from the left is the crease and not the edge of a card (easier to see when you track the card as in my second pic)
Here, I've highlighted the "correct" corners for comparison and highlighted the position of each card. http://imgur.com/PWfXo It's easier to track the cards highlighted this way. This tracks the cards side-by-side with my last pic.
Card 1 is orange, card 2 green and card 3 red http://imgur.com/ACUdV You can highlight the widths and compare to a card on the table, and the top card in that pile is consistently the same size.

As Drew says, never once in all his "sloppy" plays has any one of them hurt him. All of them have given him an advantage. Once is sloppy, maybe. Repeated advantageous cheating is cheating. End of story. Make an example of him.

+1 If the sloppyness could have been in the favor of his opponent once in a while, then I could give him the benefit of the doubt... but everytime it's in his favor and that's just a proof of cheat IMO.

I think the 4 card Brainstorm is the perfect example really. From the original screenshot I saw it looked like 4 cards. Combined with the other stories and evidence it wasn't hard for me to make the leap that he did it on purpose.A few of those other screenshots cast doubt on that now but that's not the point is it. He's tarnished and won't ever be given the benefit of the doubt from here on out. He'd have to have a really good response or some kind of massive good will run to salvage anything. That is, even if he wants to. __________________ PMs don't work in Chrome or Firefox 4.0+, see HERE for work arounds.

Are most of the final matches at the bigger tournies recorded on video? If they are why don't they use the video to help the judges make rules when there is a problem?

They aren't recorded in a way that is easy to do "instant replay" for judges. Not sure how this will turn out. Judges don't need "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" they just need doubt and they can act. I recall the one guy getting banned for getting caught on camera peeking at someone cards in a draft. So this may go that way too.

He says he's going to quit magic to find a real job. Well headhunters know of this thing called google, and when they find out he's a widely known cheat, he's not going to get hired, unless it's a service industry. People try to get their names off the BTA list here because it's hurting their job prospects, imagine typing in an applicants name and getting 3,000 articles about him being a cheat. To the recycle bin with his resume.

I was about to rubbish the above post as to say that what prospective employer would search an MTG site but you know what you are sorta right. Although I have to say that some companies would probably see this as a good thing (financial/ investment companies)

Playing with marked creased sleeves is pretty bad too, even if he didn't brainstorm for 4.
