Indeed. Incidentally, I'll trade a P3K Asian retainers straight across for a commanderbox one.

Correct. Its frustrating since Loyal Retainers isn't a card i see included in many EDH decks quote: Originally posted by Volcanon: Indeed.Incidentally, I'll trade a P3K Asian retainers straight across for a commanderbox one.
That a good deal for whoever does it considering the rarity of PK3 cards. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

so I was 3-2 at GP Philadelphia, lost and dropped, and hung around since my friend Tony was 8-0 (after defeating AJ Sacher) going into round 9. He lost to Lindgren, and decided to drop out of the tournament so we could all go home. He then quit magic....Then we had a hurricane. This was my weekend at GP Philadelphia http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/gpphi12/yellowstand8 Standings at round 8; Tony is 7th place. Q: if you could basically lose 75% of your day 2 matches, and walk away with 200 bucks, WHY WOULDN'T YOU GO?!

Who quits magic after losing 1 match?

Most hobby stores are only getting 2 copies. Some bigger stores will get 4. Extremely limited product run, so the answer is no.

Hm. How do you guys work at not making play mistakes? Either just outright mistakes, or stuff that's fairly clearly on the board that you just don't see until it's too late. I seem to make at least one fairly major mistake every tournament. Sometimes it doesn't cost me anything, sometimes it costs me a game (or match).Last night's example was: I'm at 1 life with Vraska, Olivia, Underworld Connections, and 7 lands on the board. Opponent is at like 18 life, 5-6 lands and plays a Geist of Saint Traft. Has like zero or one card in his hand. I'm holding 2 Underworld Connections and 1 land in my hand that I just drew, and absolutely just can't see for any reason whatsoever how I can live through a Geist attack. Ended up just basically scooping. Yeah, this was at like 12:45am in semifinals of FNM after 5 rounds and cut to top8. And I mean, I also work on Fridays and generally head to FNMs almost immediately after (or with a 1-2 hour break, but not nap). But I don't want that to keep being an excuse for bad play. It also gets pretty inexcusable at tournaments where I've had plenty of sleep (e.g. Saturday ones). I'm thinking part of it is also that I don't get to playtest much in my "free time" (partly because I just don't have any), so I don't see some of the plays that can be done. Again, I don't want to make excuses, I want to fix my gameplay. Edited to add some more detail as to what the mistake was and info

I write them down - situation, life totals, board position (if you are winning or losing), type (forgot to respond, poor attack, fell for a trap, etc.) and see if there is a running theme. If there is a pattern, just be cognizant of that situation in the future. Being aware of when the play mistake occurs typically is enough to allow you to be aware of it in the future. __________________ -Schmitty T-87th in Refs [286] on MOTL (with kj1000) 2nd in Refs [286] in OH-IO (75 behind souladvocate) 2nd in Posts [7715] in OH-IO (only 400 behind Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

pretty sure the two stores in my area both did. One called and said his are in and I'm headed there to pick it up in a bit. The other store owner wasn't sure what he was goign to do w/ his so nothing went on display, but he did ask me if he opened one if there was anything in particular I'm interested in so I'll assume he got his friday too.

I like to play lots of alt formats (why no one play type 4?) to exercise mtg skills. When you have to constantly change your tactics, you can grow to become more flexible. Also sounds like fatigue is something that you will have to deal with. Past midnight is tough. Make sure you're eating and drinnking.

A lot of play mistakes come from not knowing your own card. Some players will stick with the same deck for years and do very well because they're extremely familiar with the miriad of situations the deck can be in and subsequently always know their outs. I know a guy who's played merfolk for as long as that decks been around and does very well with it. However, put storm in his hands and he won't win a match for 3 months. Each card in your deck should have several mental notes attached to it. For Olivia, you should always be aware of your mana, and when you hit seven lands a little ticker should go off in your head, "were online..." Also, working all day then goin to a magic tourny is a sure way to put yourself at risk for a play mistake

Yeah, this is true. Olivia was actually a 1-of in the deck and now a 2-of, and I don't see her anywhere near as often as I see most of the other stuff. 90% of the time I only use her 1R ability and only think about the 3BB ability when it's something bigger than what I can kill given my current # of mana. I just didn't think about being able to take the Angel and block the Geist. I guess I also forget about Liliana (Dark Realms)'s -3 ability to give +X/+X a fair amount of times too. 98% of the time I'm using her -3 ability it's to kill something. Bleh. On the plus side, what ryan said is pretty true. I've gotten a lot better at playing Olivia than I was a few weeks ago, and I remember Liliana's +X/+X ability a lot better than I did when I first forgot it too. quote: I like to play lots of alt formats (why no one play type 4?) to exercise mtg skills. The first part of this sounds pretty interesting. I guess I can build another Legacy deck and play a little on Wednesdays. People have been trying to get Modern going a little bit too. The second part of this is pretty true. One store starts at 7:30pm and usually ends at around midnight-1am if I top 4, the other store starts at 6:30pm and ends about the same if I top 8 (both of which usually happen--and it's usually after the cut that I start making mistakes). I always eat dinner before FNM, but I don't really eat/drink anything during the often-5 or 6 hour grind. There's no real way to get around the work part. I work Mon-Fri from 8:30am to 5-6 and sometimes they tell us we can leave early on Fridays (4pm or so). If it's a major tournament on a Saturday (SCG stuffs) then I'll often just skip FNM and get some extra rest before driving, but I can't do anything about that for FNMs. But thanks for the advice, guys. I don't think there's a single thing I hate more in Magic than losing because of play mistakes that I shouldn't have made. It's worse than mana screw really.

I know I read this in an article on WotC, but for the life of me I cannot find it now. Core stores got 2, Advanced stores got 4. This may have been changed, but that was what I read, straight from the horses mouth, so to speak. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for?
