The game is difficult until you get used to it - and then it still has a decent difficulty to it even when you are used to it. It's just a matter of going at a slower pace that isn't going to get you slaughtered. It's not a game that's tough enough to force you to memorize many enemy locations though.

Anyone here has the time and the kindness and the will to help me build a gaming computer? (like telling me what to buy!)Starcraft 2 is coming out soon, and I heard building a computer is cheaper than buying a built one. Robert

Starcraft 2 will run very well on a decent machine - you won't need to buy or build a gaming computer for that. You'll just need something decent from Dell at best and probably just replace the graphics card 2 years down the road. Of course, if you plan to play a lot more on it than that, then that's a different story. Before I say anything else though, let me ask you these questions: 1) What type of games (or other games) do you plan on playing on your new machine? You don't have to worry about games before...say...2005 that much - I just think it would be a good idea to see what the recommended specs are now so that we can get a clear picture. 2) Will you need to do serious video editing on it? 3) Will you need to use SolidWorks or anything that completely relies on .NET on it? 4) How fast do you need it? You can sometimes get away with murder during September/October when most of the pre-holiday sales (which usually are when the REAL deals occur or start) are happening.

1) I play on playing Starcraft 2 mainly and other new blizzard game they could throw at me. I'm still hoping finding a game that can replace Counterstrike in term of playability 2) No video editing 3) Nope 4) I'd like to get it for starcraft 2 (basically 27th july). I bought recently a laptop (quadfour, hd radeon 5730, 4gb, rated 5.9 by windows on a scale of 7.9. Dont know what thats worth. But i still want a desktop to run games, since this laptop is mostly used for my work and school purpose. SC2 should run on it (which is why ive bought it in the first place.) I could wait for october/september deal, but my brother wont be happy, cause the other desktops are like 8-10 years old and cant likely play sc2 thoughts? Robert

That's a very good sign when you want to build a gaming computer and you don't need to worry about video editing and .NET. You don't have to worry about buying a second hard drive this way (among other things). When you build your own computer, you will either have to purchase an operating system, exclusively use Linux, or...yeah. You will also want to be completely ready to spend an evening putting it together and making sure that all of your parts work. You will also have to deal with the fact that parts these days have high failure rates and cheap motherboards and power supplies are just that - cheap (and did I mention that cheap = having high failure rates?). When you buy a used part, you have no idea what kind of wear it has. I second the idea of getting an AMD Athlon X4 620-630 series processor (unless you NEED a dual core or have a $1500 budget I don't know why anybody would buy anything else), 4GB RAM, and the ATI Radeon series graphics cards (if you need to upgrade it, you can always do it 2-3 years down the road). I'm afraid I don't know that much about specific hard drives or power supplies though - sorry. I don't see why the two suggested by the link BoT suggested wouldn't be satisfactory. Your laptop should play SC2 (or any Blizzard game) with incredible ease. However, it will most likely wear some very valuable life out of it. If you are going to buy a desktop, then I would let it handle SC2 since your laptop is going to be far above average for quite a long time. I hope that this is at least somewhat helpful.

So you ARE looking to spend $1500 or so on it. I don't have any real problems with the parts you selected, but I would make sure that you won't need EPU disabled if you go with the ASUS motherboard (if you do, you definitely want something from Gigabyte instead). Also, you probably don't need a high end case for it because you won't be overclocking anything. You will also only need 4GB RAM. You won't notice a difference in how much RAM you have until you actually use a decent portion of it, and it doesn't sound like you are going to be running anything that requires tons of RAM. Even if you decide that 4GB isn't enough, please do not upgrade to 6GB - make sure that all of your RAM cards are the same (so go to 8GB). Finally, make sure that all of your computer parts are compatible with each other and with Windows 7 and drivers (I'm referring to how they connect to each other). I doubt you'll have issues, but I don't know all of the parts well enough to give you that answer.

Omega, if you're trying to build just to save money, I'd recommend you take a look at what you can buy from Dell, HP and Gateway. You can get a faster processor, the full 8 GB of RAM, double or triple the hard drive space, all of that for under $1,500 from any of them.__________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Total BEFORE Price Match $1,108.30 YOUR TOTAL $1,069.44 I'm still not convinced by the ram. I can probably find better at that price. Right now, I want to keep it around 1000. 1500 is clearly too much for the use I want to make of it. I'm not even sure if AMD1055 is the best choice, since I can take amd955 at 50$ cheaper. But then, one can argue : But for 50$ you get 6 cores and a better cpu. I dont really need storage. I dont download a lot. At 170$, i think the ATI 5770 is the cheapest I can get, and it seems to be a decent card Robert

Getting all 150 stars on Super Mario 64 DS I've found is fun and can consume many hours. Plus, the mini games can consume some time, too. Similarly, you can't go wrong with Mario Kart Racing. The DS version ports old GBA and N64 racing tracks, plus adds many new ones. You can race against other computer opponents, race against other real life people, or simply play the time trials and see if you can beat yourself and once you get really good, beat hidden "ghosts" of other players with top scores. There are some Final Fantasy titles you can get for the DS (although, I like FF3 over everything else available for the DS). I can give you more specific details if this is your area of interest; I've played just about every FF game that's available to GBA/DS. You can get the Marvel VS TCG on the DS and if you're really into it, you can spend hours trying to play against different decks and earn points to get packs to build certain decks. It really does help if you played the real life card game and if you're a Marvel fan it's a bonus, but if you've played Magic at all, you should pick it up fairly quickly. In Magic, there are 5 colors, but in the Marvel VS TCG, there are teams, so you get to choose from Fantastic Four, Sinister Syndicate (update to Sinister Six), Spiderman and friends, X-Men, Avengers, and about a dozen more. If it's your kind of thing, I found Advance Wars DS to be very fun and I've spent many times over 100 hours on it. It's a turn-based strategy game where you try to defeat your enemy on varying sized maps with opposing armies. You can build infantry, tanks, submarines, battleships, fighter jets, helicopters, and stealth planes. It's easily my favorite game for the DS. You get a combined score (each out of 100 for a total of 300) based on how quickly you defeat your opponent, how little of your army you lose in battle, and how much of your enemy's you were able to destroy in a single turn. I've easily spent over a hundred hours just trying to get perfect 300 scores on every War Room (you versus the computer) map.

Are you looking for an RPG, or will any game do? Also, does it have to be for the DS? Yakusoku's suggestion about Super Mario 64 DS is right on, but I couldn't tell you anything about the other games he's suggested.
