I have a mother of runes and Steadfast guard out 2/2 and my opponent attacks with a 5/5 green trampler

Can I declare it as a blocker and before damage is assigned, give my steadfast pro-green w/ my Mother of runes? After that, how much trample damage if any is assigned? 2 to the guard (cancelled later b/c of protection) and 3 to me?

Or does all it if get cancelled by guard?

Here's my question: I have Vintara Snapper & a couple of forests (2 is untapped) in play.
I attack with Snapper, he doesn't block and i announce to cast Giant Growth. He uses Rishadan Port to one of my untapped forests.
Now, can i target the Snapper with Giant Growth?

selvaxri: depends how u do it.. if u do it in response to the first shade.. (since sac is a cost) the first scent would counter itself.. and the second one couldnt even be cast.
timing is very important.

meblank: activation cost means
<pay/do so and so> to <get this effect>
or.. <cost> : <effect>

orinn: attack payments are made as the attackers are declared.. (in the same step) when neither player has priority.. its a cost that has to be paid.. by the time you have a chance to play with wartax again.. he's got legal attackers already.
The ability only applies to attackers declared after it resolves. It will not add costs to any attackers already announced.
[DeLaney 99/10/17]

chamber - yes. which is why you can gain 8 and not 6 life from the chamber

ncromonitor: rupture's sac is declared upon resolution. it isnt a cost of the spell..
3. rupture doesnt target.. I think that answers your question

reinhart: sure u can give it pro green before dam is on the stack.. but.. how much trample you take is up to the attacker.. if they want to assign all 5 to the guard.. u take nothing.. if they assign only 2 to guard and 3 to you.. then u take 3.. and guard lives.

king masticore: yes.. if you draw the mana from the forest he tapped... leaving the other untapped. =)

I meant that i tap my forest before i announce casting GG, and then he ports my other forest. I think i can't, because Port's ability resolves first because it is in top of the stack, and growth is in bottom, so GG fizzles. Am i right?

coolio, i'm now confused about trample after buying Urza Saga. I thought that the attacker ALWAYS had to assign enuff dmg to blockers first to kill it and whatever was left over automatically went to opponent

this actually happened in a tourney. my opponent was playing contamination/nether spirit deck. a guy next to him made some huge playing mistakes and was going off yelling and the whole bit. he dropped the tourney. meanwhile, we were still playing. he was distracted by it and left the spirit in the graveyard. all the 6 people watching were distracted too. my opponent said he said he returned and sacrificed but i know he didn't. what would happen then?

2) if your sleeves have a diffent mark in the front is it marking the card?

Reinhart - here is part of the Oracle Rules Text regarding trample:

A.25.9 - Assigning damage from a Trample creature only considers the actual toughness of the creature, not any abilities or effects that might prevent or redirect damage once it is assigned. [CompRules 99/04/23] For example, if a 2/2 creature with Protection from Green blocked a Force of Nature, you would only need to assign 2 damage to it, even though that damage will be prevented by the ability during damage prevention. [WotC Rules Team 98/10/18] Another way of thinking of this is that you need to assign enough damage that the creature would be lethally damaged if nothing prevented or redirected the damage. [D'Angelo 99/05/01]

This is good to know. In casual play with my girlfriend, we have been playing wrong, assuming that the creature with protection kept any damage from coming through. Since I play green a lot, this will come in handy.

i have a few questions to ask u:
first:
if i control an untap land, and my opponent uses rishadan port to tap that lands during my untap phase ,can i in responese tap that land for mana

secondly:
if my opponent have 5 untap lands and i have 7 untap lands and a mishra's helix in play,so i use the ability during his untap phase and tap 5 manas to tap 5 of his lands
question is:when i tap 5 lands for the mishra's helix ability, do i also need to tap my remaining 2 lands?

thirdly:

fourthly:

i have a question.

my opponent has 2 lurking evils in play, both are still enchantments.

he pays half his life and turns one into a creature, i respond to that by disenchanting the other one and he responds to the disenchant by turning it into a creature, does he pay 10 life both times and pay 20 life alltogether because the first one hasnt resolved.

anyway, LMK

Hi-o.
This has been giving me problems and I keep getting different answers from different people.

I have a mishra's factory, and my opponant attacks with a 2/2. I block with the factory and tap itself to give +1/+1.
Now, I was under the impression that the factory deals no damage to the 2/2 and survives since now he is a 3/3, but since he is tapped, he deals no damage.

I was playing a kid the other day and he said no, the factory still kills the 2/2. In that game it was his factory though, and it caused him to win the game...go figure.
But another guy there said the same thing, so I thought maybe that was right.

Then I have also heard that the factory deals 2 damage and can take 3, because when it is declared as a blocker, its a 2/2, so the 2 damage is "on the stack" then you pump it, so it can take 3 damage but still only deals 2.

So, what is correct?
I kinda like the one where it deals no damage because its tapped. Thats what I alwasys thought the rule was.

Thanks.

Help me out with this one.

Someone has an Ancient Hydra in play and activates all 5 fading tokens to do damage. That goes on the stack. If I seal of fire in response, does the Ancient Hydra receive lethal damage and goes to the graveyard preventing it from using its ability or does the damage produced still occur.

i use rocket launcher and donate it to a friend. Does the launcher still live, so i can confiscate it next turn? or does it destroy itself? lmk

yes selvarexi(mispelled) the game is immediatly over when you cannot draw a card, now my question.
ok, I have a rebel out(law or lightbringer, the one that kills a red creature) well I have that out and my opponent plays a goblin (which is unnafected from summoning sickness) well I say I am using my rebels ability to kill his goblin, then he plays a goblin grenade, what happens does it go to the graveyard and the grenade fizzles?

You sac the rebel to kill the goblin.
The rebel goes to the graveyard,,,the killing goes on the stack.

He casts the Gernade (I assume a instant)and sacs the Goblin.
The Goblin goes to the graveyard and the Gernade goes on the Stack

Gernade resolves dealing the damage, killing of Goblin resolves but it is already gone.

end result::Gernade deals damage,,both rebel and goblin in graveyard

Hey, I have yet another question. Ok, I'm playing a black deck with my rebel deck. Say I have one creature out. My opponent plays a snuff out on my creature. In an attempt to save my creature, I play a Cho-manno blessing(black) on my creature as an instant. What happens or what would happen if that was done in reverse order? Please lmk. thanks.
