If part but not all of the targets for a spell are illegal when it resolves, it just does as much as possible. In this case, the other creature that still is a legal target is destroyed (and can't be regenerated) and you lose 5 life. If all targets are illegal when Reckless Spite resolves, it's countered on resolution and none of its effects happen (so no loss of 5 life either).

I have a couple questions, I hope people are still reading this If my opponent plays Void and I have an Ivory Mask in play, how do I make sure he's not lying about the fact that he has no X CC cards in his hand? (The same applies if you misdirect an Unmask, I did this once and my opponent, with a 6 card hand, said he had no nonland cards. Nothing I could do, he wouldn't let me see it.) Do CoP: Green and Story Circle work on Blastoderm? Can you save a creature from Last Breath by increasing it's power in response? Can you tap a Lin Sivvi even with no mana available just to shuffle your deck? If there is more than one Saproling Burst in play, and one dies, do ALL the tokens get removed? I always thought it was just the ones from the one burst but it does say "all tokens put into play by Saproling Burst." My opponent taps 2 mana and casts Dark Ritual intending to play Phyrexian Scuta. Can I cast Orim's Chant in response to the Ritual to stop the Scuta and make him take 4 damage? EDIT: I forgot 2 I was going to ask

With Void, it's not that much of a problem since it requires that the target player has to reveal his/her hand aswell. With Unmask or other spells (Lobotomy comes to mind) it's a bit trickier.. You can get a judge to check if the opponent is telling the truth.Yes, CoP: Green and Story Circle work just fine because you choose a source, it doesn't actually target the Blastoderm (no 'target' in the card text). That's correct, increasing a creature's power in response to Last Breath will make it an illegal target when it tries to resolve so it will be countered. X can be zero, so sure, you can do that. No, only the tokens put into play with that particular Burst are destroyed. When a card mentions its own name, it only refers to itself and not to other copies of the same card. Yes, Orim's Chant will resolve before the DR and your opponent will probably end up with 4 black mana in his/her manapool that can't be used for spells.

One small argument my friend and i had. Its my upkeep, Can I stack the oath of mages effect even if i dont' have less life then my opponent, thus allowing me to resolve 1 point of rack damage, then allowing the oath of mages effect to resolve, dealing one point of damage to my opponent? My friend argued that you can't stack it since it never takes place since the life totals are equal. Then I argued, that even if that were true, don't enchantements do checks every so often to see if its still valid? Can you stack the check rather then the effect? Yes I know this wasn't much to be arguing about, but we both follow the rules quite closely, and if i'm wrong, he will never find out anyways hehe Actually 1 other question about stacking things. When a creature with kicker comes into play, like say, kavu titan, can you stack the kicker, and bolt the titan killing it.? To me it sounds kinda stupid, but i've seen ppl try it b4. And does kicker count as a "come into play effect"? Is it part of the casting cost? Annoyed and confused Asphinx

asphinx: (1) Nope, I'm afraid you can't use Oath of Mages that way. This is because if the condition that comes with the triggered ability isn't met, it never triggers to begin with (rule A.4.15). You better tell him, otherwise I'm wasting my time here. (2) That won't work, the Kavu Titan comes into play as a 5/5 trampler. If you look at the wording, you can see that Kavu Titan does not have a CiP ability, the counters are put on -as- it comes into play (comes into play with the counters and trample).Master: I don't know what the old wording was, but this is the current Oracle card text: Grinning Totem: Info: Color=Artifact Type=Artifact Cost=4 MI(R1)/6(R1) Text(6th+errata): {2},{Tap},Sacrifice ~this~: Search target opponent's library for a card and remove that card from the game. Then that player shuffles his or her library. You may play the card as though it were in your hand. At the beginning of your next upkeep, if you haven't played the card, put it into its owner's graveyard. [Oracle 00/02/01] Your deck is shuffled by yourself after the card has been retrieved from it, and the card stays in the RFG zone until it goes to your graveyard if it isn't used.

Thanks! Hopefully you can give me the ruling and numbah with it! 1) What happens if you oath into a gaea's blessing? I know you shuffle your library but I dont know what happens actally. 2) If I have Sacred Ground and an Active manland and my Opponent Diabolical Edicts it or Cataclysms it, do the lands return? 3) If I have Sacred Ground and I attack with two manlands, and then my opponent blows up a Nevinyrral's Disk do I get my lands back? 4) Is the card for Enlightend tutor named on resolution or before? 5) If I Fof a Gaea's Blessing into a graveyard what happens? 6) Does Gaea's blessing shuffle itself back into my deck if it is Oathed out? 7) What happens when you have a Sylvan Library and Abundance? 8) If an effect would send multiple cards to my graveyard along a Gaea's Blessing will the Blsesing shuffle the cards that came with it to the graveyard or not? 9) I have a Tradewind Rider, I tap 2 crits and try to bounce, in response my opponent taps it. Does that work? Does that apply to attacking as well? 10) What happens if I Ertai's Meddling Urza's Rage? 11) What does put on the stack mean?__________________ " I always need Morphlings, Kegs, Disks, Wastelands, and FoWs." Alright, I have a thornscape familiar in play. Rith is in my hand, since the thornscape familiar says, "Your red and white spells cost 1 less to play" does Rith cost 2 less to play since he is both of those colors? __________________ Feeling stupid! I know I am!Homer J. Simpson

From Planeshift FAQ You pay only 1 less for a spell that is both colors named in a Familiar's ability, not 2 less. If u want more PS info...check here http://www.wizards.com/sideboard/article.asp?x=sb20010125d

I hope this wasn't posted before but TimeWalk and I have been debating whether or not if I enchant a Plains with a Fertile Grounds, does it produce 2 mana or 1 when I tap it?

Fertile Ground: Text(IN): Whenever enchanted land is tapped for mana, its controller adds one mana of any color to his or her mana pool. The plains would add a white mana and the fertile ground would add one mana of the color of your choice. __________________

question: i have my Caltrops/Death Pits of Rath combo out. he declares his attack. The creature(s) die due to the combo, but do they still deal their combat damage or do they die when declared as attackers? lmk
if there are more than one Coat of Arms in play, do each creature get +X/+X for every other creature of the same type in play? [X is the number of Coat of Arms in play]

I don't draft much, but I enjoy it. My friends and I booster draft every so often, and there are two players who are experienced drafters. During the drafts these 2 players talk to each other about what they're drafting, and show each other what they've drafted and what's in the packs that are going around.I don't think this is very fair, as it seems that they use this information to their advantage. The drafts are run at "REL 3", is there a penalty for what they're doing?

Wanna know if I play Opalescence and then I play Chill if Red spells would stil cost more or Chill would only be a creature without any special ability Also wanna know if Chill in this case would be affected by Enchant Creature cards. And what about cards that affect enchantments?__________________ Yeah, yeah...

Sorry if my answers are a bit short, but my computer just froze up after an hour of writing up a reply and checking rulings etc. If you would like a more detailed answer to something, lmk.StriderHry: Argh, lots of questions! But here goes: (1) Everything Oathed into your graveyard along with Gaea's Blessing is shuffled back into your library. (2) Yes. Note that you would make the decisions of what to sacrifice for both Cataclysm and Diabolic Edict, not the opponent. (3) Yep. (4) You never name a card, you just search for a card of the appropriate type and put it on top of your library after shuffling it. (5) Gaea's Blessing's ability is triggered so you shuffle your graveyard into your library. (6) Yes, see above. (7) If used correctly you get 2 extra cards without having to put them back or pay life. (8) Yes, see above. (9) The Rider and other creatures are already tapped since that's the cost of activating the ability. Tapping it afterwards won't do anything. Same with attacking basically, unless it's done before attackers are declared in which case the tapped creature can't be used to attack. (10) Exactly what Ertai's Meddling says - it doesn't actually counter the card so its effect will work on a UR. (11) The stack is a zone for spells and abilities (put on the stack as psuedospells), see 217.6 of CompRules. Selvaxri: (1) Nope they won't deal combat damage since they're already dead before the combat damage step starts (unless damage is prevented somehow - Lashknife Barrier will ruin this combo). (2) Yep, they're cumulative. yeom: That's definately not allowed, and would probably fall under cheating. In which case, it'd be grounds for DQ without prizes at any REL. Perhaps a judge can confirm this. ;-) VaughanDude: (1) Chill keeps its ability; K.5.2 - If a spell or ability changes a permanent's type, none of the abilities of the permanent are changed unless the effect says they do. (2) Yes, it's a creature now so can be enchanted by Enchant Creature cards. (3) It's also still an enchantment (Opalescence says so) so it's still affected by things that affect enchantments.

In the context I think you're referring to, no.The context I'm thinkin of: He plays orim's chant in my main phase, in response, I play mana short. However, tapping a land for mana does not use the stack, and resolves the instant you tap it. No effects can stop the tapping of land for mana, and therefore, mana short could not either.

Okay.. My opponent does it like this. I tap 2 Isles, then he shorts me so I cant counter it. Does that work? I think it doesn't cuae he doesn't get priority to the stack or something... But does it?__________________ " I always need Morphlings, Kegs, Disks, Wastelands, and FoWs." O.D.T: When in doubt, check Oracle! The card text you mention seems to indicate that only one EEoObG may attack, since when a card mentions its own name it only refers to itself. However, it has errata, probably for this exact reason: Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore 4B Creature — Horror 3/6 Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore can't be blocked except by Walls. Except for creatures named Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore, creatures you control can't attack. So all 4 would be able to attack. StriderHry: I think you left something out in that situation, but you're basically right. While you have priority, the opponent can't play spells and abilities until you pass priority again - and mana abilities don't go on the stack but resolve immediately.

I tap 5 Isles, and cast a Morphling can they MANA SHORT me in reponse so, theoretically I cant cast the Morphling. Does that work? Mana Short is very confusing, or is it they have to shout SHORT before I shout MORPH! To short me?

I'll answer the easy ones pipeclaysh: Shivan Wurm says that when it comes into play return a red/green creature to your hand. Now since you have no creatures of the color in play, you would have to bounce the Wurm ITSELF to your hand. It's also R/G, you know? The effects will not happen until the spell is resolved. StriderHry: As said before in the article, tapping lands does NOT go on the stack. The correct time to use Mana Short is: 1. end of someone's turn, or 2. opponent's upkeep, when they can only cast instants as responses. So your Morphling comes into play unharmed- Although you have no more mana from lands to protect him because you're still mana-shorted. __________________ "Our belief shall be the lance that pierces Volrath's heart."

im playing basic replenish type one. i have cast replenish turn 4 and i have out 1rising waters, 1para wave, 1para tide, 1opalesence. he has i no mercy and 4 lands.it goes to his turn he does nothing then before my turn i remove my four lands from the game (so they untap) then i remove tide from the game with my wave then my use the wave to remove itself. now hears the question does my 2 enchantment a)come back as they were like a stais efect with 1 and 3 counters) b) stay removed from the game. c) come back in to play like they were brought in for the first time. i say c b/c everytime a card comes in to play from any wear it comes in to play as a new copie. lmk reid q_welfare@hotmail.com

qwelfare: The answer is none of the options you mentioned, actually. If you check the current card text in Oracle, you can see that the Wave itself won't return to play if it's removed by the Wave's own ability. You're partly right though, Tide will return with all its counters since it's a new copy. There's also a ruling on the first part: If Parallax Wave somehow removes itself from the game, it will not return itself to play. [Nemesis FAQ 00/02/07]
