So, I got a call from the card shop today, and they informed me that we received 36 of each prerelease promo, rather than 18 and 18 which the paperwork had noted, apparently. Anyone else experience something like this, or are we just lucky? Also, after discussing the extra Besieged product that we seem to be getting and the price per box, I think if we can get 8 to show up to the prerelease we should just about make enough money to cover our costs, meaning we'll just have awesome prize support.

So many options, So many legends to choose from.
Trying to make EDH Decks that won't get hated on from my play group and yet I still enjoy playing the deck.

Buying individual singles offline for a deck then when you think you got everything you need you remember you need something else and you check the online store and theyre currently out of stock. So your stuck buying from another online store; Paying for more shipping or just getting so irratated to the point you say screw it and just replace the stupid card with another land or something.

Also having minor O.C.D. does NOT help building decks in this format.

(thank you for listening )

I have the same issue all the time when I come up with new decks or want to revamp an existing one. I usually type up the list in a word doc and then spend a few days tweaking it/maybe posting it to the EDH forums before I actively try to acquire cards for it. That seems to cut down on the poor purchasing decisions I have to make.

As for general selection, pick one that goes with a game plan that seems to work with your playgroup. I'm a bad person for advice here, because I currently have like 7 decks built.

Also, a big agreement on the inventory issues. That's the biggest problem with the randomness of EDH I have...just trying to track down those random obscure cards from places that don't have other stuff I want or that charge way more than what I can get them for elsewhere. I usually resort to buying them local, which comes out to slightly less than ordering them and paying shipping.

Yeah and its pretty hard to believe all my ranting is over building a Mono-Red EDH deck, which is supposed to be the weakest of all colors for Mono EDH. I want to build it using more of an Aggro type style because Burn decks blow in EDH, but I also don't want to use that many Goblins...I also want to keep it fun and I don't want too much Land destruction...This is rather difficult.

Mono red is fairly difficult. I wouldn't even begin to know how to approach it. Friend is currently running kiki-jiki with some limited success. I'd find every red card that says "draw" and play it along with multiple artifacts that do the same.

(from previous thread

so my opponent dropped a titan tonight. I used rite w/ kicker on it. Even after having Sadistic Sacrament used twice on me, kicked one of the times, I still managed to pull out a win. I was having to attack with bad creatures like mystic snake and magus of the future, but with so much mana available I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted every turn. I did have mirrari's wake for a while, as well as kozilek being powered with jace 2.0's bounce, and a survival. Kozilek was actually removed with the first sacarament hitting 15 cards, but it got reift sweepered back in since I had survival on the table and a volrath's stronghold to insure I drew the kozilek to generate that necessary card advantage, heh.

Second EDH game of hte night as 5 players. We typically only play 3-4, so this one and the previous seemed to take forever. I was getting focused fairly well, got down to 19 before I reversed the sands and went to 45, at which point the person w/ the most pressure on me had to start saving blockers. Later on I was down to 4 life with a land burning from that red creature. Body double on someone's pelakka wurm, time warp... untap into rite w/ kicker. Life became a non-issue once again. I combo'd this one out. It felt dirty, but no one seemed to be having fun because of the time the game was taking between turns an how.

Those any better then my grand arbiter games?

Who is your Commander? I have a mono-red Commander deck built on MTGO (Zirilan of the Claw) and it's pretty fun to bash with dragons. It's basically just dragons, artifact mana, a few board sweepers and some sac outlets. It's loads of fun to play.

Played over the weekend with three players. Managed to drop Nether Void and Mind's Eye, then sit back until I played Coffers, Doubling Cube and Gauntlet. Set a personal record for floating a non-infinite amount of mana (98) and managed to kill all three players with Nether Void still in play.

I want to use Akroma, Angel Of Fury. I have a deck list set up in the Deck help section of this site, I want it to be more creature based than anything.

OMFG do I know how this feels. I won't even start one till I think I have 100% of what I want in the deck on hand.

Needless to say my Zombie deck has been in construction for over a year now. Think I'm still 4-5 cards shy :P

Do you pay WotC for all the product? I thought you got the promos and such for free.

Why I'm scared to start more EDH decks. I got 3 (1 serious, 1 fun, one for the lady to play) Have ideas for 2 or 3 more. But getting the cards, sleeveing it and finding an nice box to keep them in. I just don't want to start that process, so I'm focusing on foiling out the 3 I have and making small changes.

My problem with EDH my deckbuilding addiction is that I don't want to get more than one of a card that is worth over $10. I have 3 different green decks I like (Rafiq, Savra, Momir) and I don't want to get more than 1 Primeval Titan/Gaea's Cradle/Mana Crypt, so I am moving them all the GD time and it annoys me. It also doesn't help that I deplore proxies.

Promos and such are free, sure, but not the product for actually running the events. They ordered 2 boxes of Mirrodin Besieged, not knowing that WotC also apparently provides packs for prize support. Considering that we expect to have about 8 people show up to play, that's a heck of a lot of extra packs that are unsellable due to the way that the prerelease packs are split by faction.

Same here, right now I'm working on geting 5 monocolored EDH's together, and I'm nearly finished with my Green (Azusa) but getting copies of cards that I already have 3-os (artifacts and Vesuvas) is kinda of annoying, since I don't want to swtich them around to the green one to play with it...and I hate proxies...

When I'm rich...I'm just going to buy a few extra playsets of each artifact/land I use in all my EDH decks and be done with that stupididty.

EDH FTW.

I've got a buddy who runs Zirilan in paper. He likes to tutor up Dragon Tyrant, bash face, tuck it back with Tel-Jilad Stylus and do it again next turn. It can be pretty potent if not disrupted, and who doesn't love bashing with the Tyrant?

Would the unused pre-release packs have to be sent back to WotC or are they unsellable because of what may/may not be good in that faction? Or are you just not allowed to sell them at all. I'm sure you could ebay them later on...

On EDH:
The problem I have is that I build a deck and have fun with it, then get bored of it too quickly. I get all the lands and artifacts and deck specific cards, and then I get tired of it. It REALLY isn't good for the wallet. Worst part - the only deck I liked was Zur the Enchanter which could lock an opponent (or multiple opponents) out of the game easily.

EDH is pretty cheap if you go Mono-Colored.
