I don't know about that. I remember the old day of Scepter Chant, and Howling Mine and Millstone.

or a variant of mill, forcing you to draw out, like turbo fog.

Mill in general is a bad strategy. Sanity grinding and turbo fog were both one hit wonders that didn't fare too well after people made adjustment in their SB.__________________ MOTL Fantasy NBA 2010 ChampionGet a brain, Morans!

Oh, they push it all the time, but the only deck that springs to mind that was even near competitive was TwinSanity (Sanity Grinding + Twincast for 5 mana and usually 40+ cards), and I don't recall it ever posting any tournament victories, though it Top 8'd a few times IIRC. quote: Originally posted by gaeacradle: I don't know about that. My knowledge is a bit spotty for standard decks pre-TSP/LOR, but I find it kind of hard to believe Millstone was ever a useful card. And I'd consider TurboFog an exception because with stuff like Howling Mine, Jace, and Font of Mythos (all of which were necessary the last time for it to be anywhere near competitive), you've got enough card draw that you can also cast enough spells to keep the board under control. I'm talking about straight milling (put the top X cards of a library into a graveyard), which puts you down a card in the race without actually doing anything. __________________ "I never got any respect at all. Scepter-Chant was never a Standard deck. It was first an Extended deck. I don't see Millstone as anything more than an old milestone/relic of a 'new' strategy. While not a good card on its own, it did create one of the few terms to make it out of mtg itself: mill. __________________ <Jazaray> LIQ! <Jazaray> you broke MOTL <Liq> totally <BoltBait> Don't make me kick you <Slinga> Have no fear, MOTL's janitor is here! <nderdog> So we're all agreed, it's Liq's fault, right? <Leshrac> let me deal with that * Liq has been banned

Painter-Stone is currently a tier 1 deck in Legacy. Whether and to what extent you want to consider it a mill deck, however, is up for grabs, since it differs rather radically from most traditional 'mill' decks (which are content to mill cards here, mill others there). You could also consider Solidarity a mill deck, particularly when it relied more heavily on Brain Freeze (but sucked a ton more than it does now). Neither was in Standard, however. And milling sucks, you're right. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. EliotRIP Ari Legacy UGB River Rock primer. I pre-ordered a playset of J-MAs for $25 each from CSI after my discount, screw it, I'm not taking any chances.I can always cancel if needed. I like the card myself though.

1) That does not contain millstone 2) If Ebony Owl Netsuke is the wincon, it isn't really milling, is it? __________________ "I never got any respect at all. My family moved a lot when I was a kid, but I always found them." -- Rodney Dangerfield

Had she started with 3 loyalty instead of 2, I would be very, very excited to try her out. I really want to -1 all day. time to proliferate, i think. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? Both look playable...more reusable green creature search, plus pump, plus artifact, enchantment, land destruction on garruk seems really good, even at 5.Chandra...ya -1 all day long..lol, least every other turn, unless your playing big red :P.. Also notice how neither really have a ultimate..whereas jace does. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. "Lord Crovax"

The MTGS thread got locked (possible fakes). There are some number crunch concerns, and Garruks name is pretty poor.__________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? The first statement to lock the thread is dumb ''Planeswalkers without ultimates are reason enough to assume these are fake.'' As I recall, Gideon do not have a ''ultimate''. MTGS's mods are so DB :/The number crunch thing is a strong argument, but maybe WotC changed their method. If these are fakes, I'll be sad... unless the real ones are better :P
