Ugh. I don't know how I even went 2-1 at today's release. I was stuck with 2 Worldslayers, a Quicksilver Amulet with only 2 creatures that would have been worth using it on, a Goblin Chieftain and 3 other goblins, Honor of the Pure and only enough white to go GW and a Rune-Scarred Demon but not enough black to support it. I wish I had the BoP or DoJ from my 2 prize packs (yeah, prize support sucks when you only have 5 people).Played 3 rounds of mini masters afterward, and depsite having a game-breaker every game (Inferno Titan, Rune-Scarred Demon and Vengeful Pharoah) not a single one of them got played due to mana issues. I won first round with a couple random fliers. Second round I lost to a Skinshifter because I couldn't get a single Swamp to play my Doom Blade, let alone the second swamp for the Demon. Final round, I threw up 3 walls to let my Tormented Soul keep inching me closer to victory, then my opponent forgot what Roc Egg did, and swung his Cudgel Troll into me, giving me enough of an air force to win the lone prize pack with another Inferno Titan. Very fun format. Extremely luck-based, but fun. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! It's been interesting... Reminds me a bit of Momir (mtgo). Love that Pharoah, its been good for me lately.

jlennoxg asked: Did you just say hexproof has completely replaced shroud? Yes, I did. It does not make sense supporting two mechanics that work that closely especially with different names. R&D spent a lot of time talking about it and decided to go with hexproof. Note that this doesn’t mean that shroud is changing to hexproof on cards that have it. Shroud will be supported much as we support any keyword mechanic we’re not currently using (like say fear). But for the present (I won’t talk of the future because things can change), shroud is not being used on new cards. from http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/

odd. Cards such as Neurok Commando seem better fitted as shroud then something like hexproof so it seems like it should have its place. That card would be much more playable with hexproof though. Hrm!

Drafted some M12 a few days ago. Was a pretty bland draft with Titans pretty much winning most matches in the top 8 (I had a Frost Titan and a pretty mediocre control deck and I managed to top 4). I'm not a big fan of Core Set draft but a couple of the guys I played with were new to drafting so it was a good way for them to learn the ropes. I can't imagine throwing somebody in with Infect as one of the mechanics. Don't think I'll go out of my way to draft M12 but I won't actively not draft it like I did with Zendikar or M10. At least bloodthirst makes blocking decisions a bit more tricky.quote: Originally posted by junichi: Who in the right mind would buy the "poor" beta black lotus for $999.99?

A bit more extreme than the bend test, the "rip into half" test is a sure way to spot fakes.

OK, triple M12 draft.First pick first pack: Solemn Simulacrum Serra Angel Doom Blade Only other decent card in the pack is an Unsummon. No good black/white cards in the pack.... What do you take? I think Doom Blade is the right call... But I'm not sure...

I'd take the simulacrum because you can use it in any deck and it's card advantage.

In a draft where you keep the rares or the prizes are not significant Jens. In a team draft/gp doomblade.Jens is good, but any deck where you fp doom blade you should at least be able to splash it and it is a lot bettet than jens

Taking Doom Blade but thinking long and hard about that Serra and feeling bad for passing it

Yeah, obviously not a rare draft or playing for keeps. My thought process was that as P1P1, the power of Doom Blade/Serra was stronger than the card advantage of Jens. I also didn't want to send signals that the best two colors in M12 limited were open. I took Doom Blade because I could splash it in more decks.

Also, if you take the Jens, you don't send a clear signal. If you take Db or serra the guy you're passing to is probably going to take the other.

I'm on the other side of the fence.I'm taking Serra Angel, and feeling somewhat bad I'm passing Doom Blade. Taking Solemn almost sends that the 2 people to the left of you are Black and White then. Which means you're left with G/R/U. Not horrible options, but the odds of you getting passed a 1st pick quality card at the 2nd and 3rd pick good card in those 3 colors is slim. While you are setting your other 2 people to your left with 2 strong 1st pick cards. Nothing wrong with picking Doom Blade up. It's splashable, and its removal. I pick bombs ahead of removal though, and Serra Angel is a bomb in base set drafts. Even if with the new Spider that is a flyer killer lurking in the format. I'm also taking Serra because, even though it might risk that the person to the right may be in white and it might get me hosed, I feel like White is probably the best color in M12, and the past 2 "M" releases as well. White is fairly deep. My philosophy is that unless a card is >=$10 in a draft that you keep your cards, I'm taking the best draft pick.

I would take Doom Blade, but taking Serra Angel isn't the end of the world. Taking Solemn is an awful idea. It may be card advantage, but the other two are far more powerful. Card advantage isn't everything - I've seen my opponent draw and draw and draw and still lose to permanents I have on the battlefield. It's first pack, first pick. If you first pick a card and find out that the guy who's passing to you is drafting that color, you've wasted one pick, but if he doesn't, you have a really strong card. You don't have to commit to black (or white if you take Serra Angel instead) 100% without wavering, but neither should you be scared of taking a colored card because you're "stuck" in that color. On a separate note... Am I being petty, is my friend being a jerk, or both? We were play testing for Standard and he wanted to try a new U/B control deck he put together and he asked me to pilot Elves. In one game, when he was at 12 life, I had an Ezuri, a Llanowar Elves, an Arbor Elf and two Elvish Archdruids plus 4 forests to his Consecrated Sphinx, Treasure Mage, and a 3/3 Wurm token with Lifelink and it's his turn. He thinks long and hard and says: quote:
Do players still get priority during the draw?Okay, then I've got two draws during your draw step to get removal.
So, I figure I'm in a good position and start calculating how much damage I can deal when... quote:
I'll Go For the Throat your Ezuri
ME: "Okay, so you have one removal and you're hoping to get a second removal for one of my Elvish Archdruids?" quote:
I'll Dismember your Elvish Archdruid.
ME: "Okay, so you had TWO creature removal spells and wanted a third?" quote:
You still have an Elvish Archdruid, two elves and four forests. I could still lose to an Ezuri that you draw. I've seen Elves do ridiculous things.
The next game, he's got a similarly strong position and makes an audible sigh as he says quote:
I don't have enough to play Trinket Mage and play Brittle Effigy and use the ability. I guess I'll just play Wurmcoil Engine and Dismember your Ezuri, losing 2 life. I hope I don't lose.
ME: How do you possibly lose this game? quote:
Hey, it's Elves. You do RIDICULOUS things. I don't know. You could still kill me somehow. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to win.
After that I rage quit our playtesting and said that he was one of those control players who isn't happy unless I am literally drawing to 0 outs in the deck. __________________ There are two rules for success: 1. Don't tell all you know.

This is wrong, red is the best color by a huge margin. It has 3 common instant speed removal spells. 2 Unreal bloodthirst guys and a 5 drop that is only slightly worse than green. Then at uncommon it has 2 bombs to every other color except green's one.
