I'm not gona try dash your hopes agianst the wall, but I've found that teaching my own GF to play magic, is a bad idea. You have to let them win; understand how you won; understand politics of multiplayer. Understand ever more and more complex card interactions, and make sure you do so in a fashion that doesn't sound like your bored/tired/annoyed of teaching them magic.

And hopefully you won't have to sleep on the couch at night.

But, it was fun, seeing my ex pick up magic in a month and start woopin' people with a black weenie deck.

Apparently, turning creatures sideways every turn works just fine in todays magic.

Of course, wining is Fun, and I want her to enjoy the game so I'll probably let her win very often.

I can guess she won't be heading to any tourneys any time soon, so I probably won't teach her the stack, or play with very tricky cards until I know she knows the basics, what mana is, how to pay for spells, the phases and steps in a turn. and attacking and blocking correctly.

I'm hoping Garruk and Chandra are good, Jace 3.0 is ok, fun for EDH, and maybe a grave based deck..

If Chandra is 3 mana and decent, so playing some form of RDW..

Good luck with that. I'm pretty sure the only enchantment answers in mono-red are in legacy (Chaos Warp, Anarachy if the enchantments. At least that's what I can think of.

I started teaching my 8 year old to play. I too didn't want to overwhelm her so I started with single color decks using Portal cards - i.e. no instants or enchantments - and I also didn't include artifacts right away. Cards with tricky abilities were also not used and I tried to keep the wording on things the same (one Portal set uses 'interceptors' instead of blockers for instance).

After a few games I moved to two color decks and got rid of the Portal cards in favor of mostly M10/M11 stuff and introduced the concept of instants for a few more games.

Recently we added artifacts and enchantments, though I'm still trying to keep things like upkeep costs and tricky combo cards at a minimum I have also started hinting at that a little as well. I included a few cards that had synergy together in each deck so that the idea of combos is there. Upkeep I've discussed the concept of but we haven't played with cards that require it yet.

The best part of all this is that I can make use of the loads of commons/uncommons I own to make these decks, she doesn't have to spend a bunch to get cards and we both have fun playing. I don't actually 'let her win' per se, but I do hold my punches a bit if she's having a bad draw or if it is looking like I'm going to win by a landslide and I also try and explain some simple strategy if she is making a move that would be a mistake to make and allow her to take the move back if she decides she wants to. That last bit is important since I don't want her feeling like I'm controlling her game.

Of course teaching an 8 year old is probably a bit different than teaching someone who is older, but it's still fun to see someone you love learn a hobby you love. It is a great bonding experience for me anyways.

There should be a list of LGS that support the event in your area. Call them to see but I doubt their out. At my LGS, we have 10 Grave Titans, 20 Inferno Titans, and 17 Frost Titans. Of the previous DotP promotions, 1-2 Nissa's and 3-4 Liliana's were claimed.

Well... I live in Gatineau, Québec (5 mins to Ottawa, Ontario) and there's no promos in Québec (ie: see Ashnod's Coupon lol :P). But, if I buy the game via the Steam website, will I get some sort of confirmation # with my Ontario adress to go get my card at a Ontariao card store? (never done this before, sorry ).
