I think Mythics and planeswalkers messed anything else.

I love it when I find extra semi-valuable cards. I took apart one of my early EDH tonight because I really had no desire to try and improve it. Totally forgot I had an extra Wasteland in there.__________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!

Seems like I recall Mox Diamond being over $20 when it was still in Standard. Maybe even Serra Avatar and Tolarian Acadamy. And of course a bunch of foils when they first came out too.

I actually started right around then, but I remember my buddy telling me about "Fires". I mean, I've seen a Fires deck before, but I think that was right before I started playing when it was the deck. I do however, remember Birds of Paradise being the number one card on the front page of the site for YEARS. Probably why I never seen a $20 birds. I don't remember much of anything being over $20 aside from Goyf until recently. By recently I mean like, since M10.

He's been up and down and all over the place. Cursed Scroll hit 20 in it's day, not sure about Sliver Queen but I distinctly remember opening one and screaming so loudly with joy that I got in trouble, I'm sure it was $20 in Inqust/Scrye/Duelist. Call of the Herd/Shadowmage Infiltrator were probably as expensive as things got in standard back then.

You must be talking about store prices. According to Apathyhouse, it peaked around 12-13 for a short time, but has been under 10 for all but a few months. Same for these other cards people are throwing out. They may have been 20+ at your store or a tournament but they could be bought for under 20 on Ebay or MOTL. Goyf was the first card that I remember being over 20.00.

Apathyhouse didn't exist when most of the cards we're talking about were being played, or if it did, no one on MOTL used it. I don't know how much faith I would put into it's historical price data of many years ago. I certainly remember some of these cards being purchased, sold and traded for on this very site at these values. Just browse some threads in the articles section and you can see people complaining about how much certain cards were.

Right, but I also remember MOTL's price guide never having those cards peak $20. The highest I can remember is $15, but I feel like they stayed around $10-$12 predominately. That being said, Super's knowledge apparently pre-dates my existance as a player, and a MOTLer, so I'll take his word for it on the BOPs.

You're mostly right, but local markets played a lot more into what cards were actually worth than they do today with big stores like SCG setting the high end and Ebay/MOTL setting the low-end. There was a bit more of a grey area years ago before there was Smartphones and wireless internet everywhere. Looking at data for MOTL price guide on Feb 2002, Call of the Herd was 14.90 and SMI was 16.72. At that time, it's saying a 5th Ed BoP was 10.50. Funny prices for Feb 2002: Bazaar of Baghdad was 14 bucks! FoW was 7.85. Underground Sea was 11.50! Wasteland was $2

I've been playing since 1994. I'd also consider myself an active trader. Like I said, I don't recall those cards ever being over 20.00. That doesn't mean that some people didn't pay more for them. As far as BOP, 12 is the highest that I remember him ever being. I played the deck and I remember having to find them.

Back when BoP was reprinted in 10E, 10E and Ravnica versions of it were still around $10, and it has really only gone down from there.

I remember ravanger being 20, birds I think topped out at 15 except for like regionals where it was up to 20ish, morphling was pretty insane when you had 6th rules and tog hadn't been printed. Urzas Rage was up there when it first came out. Smart phones ruined trading. Oh those were the days, the days when i had a full set of duals and +6 or 7 extra, 4-6 FOW and a a bunch of other awesome cards. __________________

I paid $15 each on eBay years ago for four mint RV birds. That included shipping though. It was right after the judge balance came out. I had traded my playset for one, then sold it, bought new minty BoPs, and picketed $40. A friend of mine was desperate to get them and said aloud he'd make that deal. I dont normally trade out of my play sets, but I made an exception for that.

Random question about that thread....has anyone successfully prosecuted anyone for magic cards? Seems just like an idile threat.

I did for SW cards, I sent him my entire collection of around 1800, and I had looked up the values on eBay for each of the 1800 cards with a rough total of $700-800. (documented the entire list,) the trade was my SW for his 600 magic rares (since he no longer played magic, and just wanted my SW cards.) we were supposed to send first, and I sent...and waited...and nothing. I receive a message after about two weeks complaining that my cards were damaged (i had pictures of the cards IN MINT condition prior to sending.) and he said he would only send me 160 rares, and when I asked him to return the SW cards he said no. I got $300 out of him, plus court costs of another few hundred, but never got the magic cards. He even brought in the SW cards to show the judge, and other then ONE single card that was slightly worn they were in EX+ to NM+ condition. __________________ Joz - can we ban Leshrac for not fixing the Chrome PM issue?Gunslinga - If I thought it would help, and if I could, I would.
